red

begonia
the color of Revlon 09
last year’s kiss
almost gone
brushed to the suede
green gloves of remiss
ached
where steps ran
flush with the porch
not long
til all we have left
of the winter
is a place where he stood
in the snow
peering through windows
while inside
we glowed
fat with the memory
of blossom
to come

. . .

memories

were only these days –
the weight of our life
a moment
surrendered
to stone
dying denied
the sweetest caress
are names – nothing more
than a measure
of bone

as years
left behind –
find their way
to another
a breeze through the window
where perfume remains
of a place
we were gifted
by love to let go
shall lie in the fullness
of hearts (can we know)

how many
how precious
the blossoming seed
will thrive
in the shade
where talk is allowed –
as our story retold
with the slightest
regret

is essence recalled
by the soul
living yet

. . .

unfinished ~

grace to bend

let me not
an ending be –
or seams sewn taught
by time
let me not
the blossom –
without thorn

as dust pervades
a polished floor
with imprints of the past
bless’ed soul
– this calling out
to be

keep me not
afraid to fall –
til all have felt my ache
as voices roll
beside me
in the dark

grant me not
a place forgot –
but shining brighter still
for those who fell
another day –
my brokenness
to heal

let me not
forgiveness save
within my eager breast
or kisses
tainted lies –
I shall not give
this longing rest

let me not
when time is gone
be haunted by regret
would seal within
my grieving –
gratefulness

hymns where none
are playing –
light beyond this light
if e’er my love
be finished –
I am none

. . .

sometimes ~

breath

sometimes
I want
for nothing much more
than to linger
as memory
divine

willed into life
by your favorite dream –
 a faraway
 promise of flight

recalling to place
a touch, a return
of silhouette framed by the light

eternity comes
in visions so clear
as comforts left bare
in their wake

measured by breath –
the rest pulls away
and still I am one
with this truth

love is our life
when nothing remains
but pieces
we left here
this way

in places eternal
worn down by our will
and sworn to the
white floating
essence of still

still

might I recall
the last we lingered
or last night’s dream
of dancing bears
words recited –
seven seasons –
have passed my window
unaware

of ageless places
unseen patterns –
notes known not by violin
float in breathless
expectation
of times intent
to pass again

dark clouds wreath
a pink horizon
lightning scores
my feather bed
veils of understanding
never
held for long –
this restless death

pluck my bloom
before the harvest
pleads the willing stalk in two
before the rights
of early autumn –
worry what of promise
true

. . .

north eternity

of moments
shall I never
know honor more than these
a laureate or something
simply less

or shall I be
forever this –
inspired to these depths
when searching for
the river
is my soul

shall I find
my ways made well
by jasper, slate
and poet –
confined to verse
the solace
I once was

wash my fate
to marble shores
where now my kindred tarry
naught for prize
they wanted –
but words that held
their sway

arrival

when the sunrise
strains to being –
scarlet rinse of consciousness
will then your knees
be broken –
your burden
bowed

when the warmth
that is your body
fails to know you as before –
will you feel the
tender need
to tell
it all

when the path
you thought
would take you home
is taking you no further
than the floor
beside your bed –
already
known

when the moon
has failed to hold you
in the place
where once you dreamed –
will the prayers
you dare to speak
be understood

when the faith
you kept
is strengthened
by wisdom born of love –
will light concede
this setting –
your place
beside the sun

eternities reaching

beyond the reach
of wisdom  –
longing makes a plan
and scratches there
our name
in blocks of time
given more
than giving back
letting go
to let
choice before the choosing
comes again

beneath the want
of wandering –
are dreams we know by heart
echoes of a once
familiar song –
played on silken chords
ringing without sound –
when wished upon a moon
we couldn’t see

before and since
of all we are –
reversing now the tides
are tears –
we thought were washing
us away
come the sigh
we breathed into –
matching with our own
blessings pass
unnoticed
to our light

august 2012

stood beyond
the blanket
of blistered buttercups
grasses green
the sweeping wheat
of song

passions
I could ne’ver confess
swirl to aching verse
leaned into the hunger
of the wind

seasons gone
five hundred years
names are written over
as sides have taken
comfort
in the loss

of choices
made – the past is gone
tho none can say for sure –
what of love
was written to endure

immortal still
 the essence left
of places where we lay

– as whispers to awaken

in fields
of yesterday

. . .

one heart ~

crossed

had I known you here
some other day –
for lives so
different now
for the tangled up
and pulled apart –
of graces we allowed

had I known of love
would choose the same
to cross
into your night
as a verse
recited silent
wing’ed to your light

had I known the way
would bring us home –
as dreams
this time foretold
would love you still
for sorrows felt –
one heart
one hand to hold

had I known you
as I know you
with time and space
to be
forever
we are loving this

– an unknown
destiny
