how I wish
I were immune
to the rising fault of tides
to the shift that
breaks my rhythm
sets my heart adrift
to the strangeness
born of midnight
a voice inside my head
books I’ve long forgotten
lay open on my bed
that I would
this dream remember
like the first
I held of you
when tides were low
moonlight fell
against the pines –
as life I didn’t know
I didn’t know –
a part of me
mistaken for another
left behind

closer now to heaven than the stars, constellations, heart, life, love, smiles, song, soul memory

there is breath
when slumber takes me –
dreams beyond
this dream
constellations
riddled by the night
there are stars
where nothing glitters
but for memory
of blue –
another time
my wishes all for you
there are words
where none are needed
tracks upon my skin
poetry deciding me
to fate
shadows
where the window sits
open to the sun
touch to fill
the silence
before the morning
comes

there are mornings
unimagined
worlds denied a map –
lands these hands
have wandered far to know
paths and constellations
arms to wrap around –
traces of a place
remains of home
a story worth repeating
as memory of grace
to see the moon
reflected in your eyes
clover made to blanket
blooms beyond the barn
I want to feel heaven
as I rise

were not for breath
a moment more –
than e’er the years were promised
were not for prayer
I spoke aloud
or gave to stars
one night
as venus burned
another sun
I fell into your eyes
beyond a meadow
deep and sweet –
flush with fireflies
were destinies delivered
a kiss at seventeen
became a wish
to stars recalled –
the memory
of a dream

I remember well
the season –
mercury and venus
a watchful moon
still takes my breath away
counting time by wishes
made for one another
whispers
folded round us –
stay
I’ve reached the age
where years no longer matter –
fissures to a dream
another page
moments I remember
a proprietary weakness –
I pass the field
we loved in
every day

this line
is one you crossed
that night
somewhere
as I lay sleeping
awoke within
the whisper of my name
ten thousand years
of someone told –
where once
I dreaming lived
speckled as the
moon
against your dark
poetry
to pull the heart
is life and death
surpassing
words and constellations
in silence
love remains
