more than breath
or seconds wore –
as grace
a skirt of solace
miles beneath these dirty feet
an ancient drum implores
and I of lowly presence
can’t ignore the come to me
as winds repeat
my name
upon the sea

to wander home
and home again –
beyond these streams of living
when opened up my heart
a measure more
than e’er could be
or one could tell
of times before revealing
as words
forever carved into
a sacred memory

as morning rings
a virgin light –
around the place I tary
while somewhere else –
a path to lay me down
with evidence
of all that is –
the same as once to wonder
shall breathe as one
so easy
twilight on the dawn

mystery
of wilderness –
secrets to surround me
liars leave no trace
of something less
will e’er I be remembered
as sunlight to the meadow –
where moments of forever
sleep with me
tonight

dream of me ~

In my soul
life remains unprotected –
by the ways
I have chosen (my own) –
and the wilderness
wandering
has turned now to stone.

I was walking
and waiting
years beyond lifetimes –
a place now surrendered
by longing to grace.
Forever alludes me
as time so unyielding
would make of us (one)
such a fool.

What is it now
that I’ve lost in translation –
a dream
where I dreamed all alone.
Another night passing
beyond what was fated
listening still –
might I hear you
somewhere.

Echoes rise
from silence unnoticed –
slow is the song
the lyricist loves –
strings that were mine
came a kiss.
I couldn’t hear –
wouldn’t hear
symphonies ringing –
you sang for me –
sang to me
such sweet lullabies.

Worn through the pages
pens without conscience.
Was there nothing
worth saying –
let me hear it (again)
screamed from the highest
mountains – cathedrals.
Listen –
(do you remember)
truth wills the wind.

When life is surpassed
a night without morning –
breath given back to the dawn –
Where will I rest
while I wait your returning.

Else I pass in my sleep –
will you then
dream of me.

When I am still
I find my way –
into a realm (as truth concedes)
chased as I was letting go
resolved at last
to let me lead.

I don’t know how
was given this –
something more than I can write.
I have not words
or verse to claim –
of shadows cast within the light.

Beyond the yard –
beyond the fence
empty graves are sweat with vine –
markers left
though no one goes –
fallacy of love (divine).

Been this way
a time or two –
no need to wonder what it means.
Was come for something
stayed behind –
is living still
the days between.

Steps away – for nine or ten –
a broken mantle
guards the gate –
lantern burned but I can see
the walls are peeling
(much too late).

How can it be
the past endures –
as thoughts to touch
or breath to feel.
Mountains rise to block the moon –
silence moves
though I am still.

Close enough to trace the barb –
far enough –
and perfume fades
into the memory of a dream.
Would for another
I be laid –

in sheets of yellow
cotton gowns –
hung to dry between the trees.
Fearless light returns the morn –
brings me home
by way of these –
to say your name
without regret –
arms to reach (I take you in).
Roads we wandered yesterday
await the time –
we pass again

into this long forsaken place –
someone said
they knew me well
ageless path beneath the pines –
hides a truth
we never tell.

When turning home
from worlds denied –
huckleberry – stained to stone
where nothing left
(remembers me)
nights I walked these woods alone.

In search of this
remembrance sweet –
proof of love
with each refrain
pressed as petals (tender page)
an empty bed –
forgotten name.

crossed in our dreaming ~

remembered now
this lowly becoming
of pulling apart
to find you again
how I wish
I could help you to see
to the places –
some other we crossed
in our dreaming

was there
that I found you
a-sleeping
wrapped in the moments
were made of forever
truth given purpose
much more
than this breath

destiny comes
in forms unexpected
faith has no season
to worry
for death

love is as always –
for the end
never ending
strains not to barter
this touch to defend

worlds that would fit
in the hand of another
time –
but a picture
of a place we begin

scattered lines
and easy does it –
someone takes the worst
of blame
forgotten all that was
of dreaming –
a frightened boy
without a name

soldier
brother
heroes all
someone’s baby
rocks the cradle ~
mountains crash
beneath the fall

lives are tangled –
heavens crossed
tho someone’s heart is hurting still
another waits the long night
(longer)
as empty arms
denied their fill

come the prayer
before the kneeling
graces changed
by love untold
blessings more than
what was fated –
took your breath
and kept your soul

a time or two
I’ve thought of you ~
and what you might have said
when sunlight fell
across these moments
made of who I was
and where I’ll be
when the day is almost come
waking from this
now familiar dream

where hands are warmed
~ words are wrapped
in memories of more ~
though one could never end
before another
(sworn to) start

who are you
am I ~
of one the same
endearing revelation
as wrens beneath the floor
doves atop the chimney
morning swoons
as questions spill to silence
secrets bent to keep
remember what we said ~
(we didn’t say)

lifetimes passed
though echoes chatter (still)
in words (I hear) unspoken
the rest without recall
where once I held eternity ~
much closer to my own

forgotten not the dream
to lie awake

long the days
were dread to nights
and hid beneath the secrets
of times we were together
trusting fate
to intervene

as planks along
the leaning barn –
broken lights and lunas
quiet as a mist
above the pond –
trusted as the early chill
wrote upon the window –
signed our names
so sure the spring
would find us
after all

the failing bliss
of Christmas morn
to hold us down
to treasure –
as auld langsyne replayed
and played again

no more the need
to hurry –
lest our essence
be consumed –
as petals lost to weeds
along the way

would ever I be missed
to every moment I endured
or rusted by my hands
upon the plow

faded now the cowboy
that lived within my curtains
with tales
that served to prove
was here I loved

long the days
we fell into –
the wish for one more
season –
locked beneath the secrets
concealed by yesterday

was you
and somewhere else
before another you had been
and I a blossom burst
against your heart
a melody remembered
you can’t believe you’re gone
how many winds
have willed your world apart

and faint for disbelieving
faint for words we said that day
and scribbled letters
one by one
into the dark decay

bare beneath ten thousand
ancient lights
you touched me then
I touched you back
and only this I ask
come again
when glaciers melt the silent seas
when mountains peak
to valleys
when canyons scream

will you know the me
that held you
know these fingers
once entwined
was longing born of loving
another me
another time

I’ve heard them say
when listened as they whispered
down the hall
there’s a better way
to get it back
another way to have it all

tell the story
tell the teachers
tell them all you loved me more

when you looked at life this morning
I was the smile
you wore

beyond the sunny day
in places never called by name
I’m the other one
another day
another love (you loved) the same

come back to you
come back to me
remember what I said
when the sky was blue
and ships were sailed as clouds
above our heads

I was watching you
you were watching me
was this the dream of dreaming of
how could I know
forever this
the first (the last)
enough

my only sin ~

of places
that I understand
there’s another
that I don’t –
the world
where you are God
and I – your only sin

the choice of others
chose for us
a story for the telling
turning back the pages
we begin

like as one
and to another –
just the way
we are
you and I the same
so few can see

where we were –
we came from one
into the one
returning
sworn to understand
these mysteries

speak
and I already know
words within my mouth –
for there you are
in verses unforgot

sang of more
and from the depths
one moment stills the others
as different as we were
– tho we
are not

you am I
remembering
another love as this –
promises
and when the time
would be

I would leave
and you would come
forever-night to wander –
waiting in the place
we couldn’t see

I was you
and you
another autumn night –
tempted by the cold
to turn within

revealing now –
a sweet familiar
fluttering of leaves
where I was God –
and you
my only sin

circles in the sand ~

from these moments
of beginning –
somewhere far
the earth defends
a place of magic
meant to hold
your heart

from the skylight
sapphire vision
of an ancient world aglow –
there’s another dream
awaking now
beyond the one we know

from the choices
of tomorrow –
came to find our future here
in a circle where
we started
yesterday –
of yesteryear

as a breath
within a moment –
held by others so divine
when came for love –
eternity
was destiny to find

in the sacred
of surrender –
we become
as once we dreamed
from a circle
barely turning
to the sands that fell
between
