numbers
and night birds
roosting in willows
crickets are crooning –
just past the light
echoes of where I was
one time too often
as lowly came home
another someday to bed
and spread to my quilt
hands to remember
touch not so young
I betrayed
kisses the first
will I know – will I ever
how many the last
will become

more than a telling ~

started

in the last
that would come
a southern magnolia
dusting the ground with her grace
felled by an instant
of uncharted treason
– who am i now
to remember this place

not far
yet forever
a night more shall be
passed in between
while we sleep
counting to memory
the passage of time
tis there i am yours
and you mine

held to each other
as soft winter rods
leaving our words
for the wind
a reminder of somewhere
we must have been other
to wonder
will wander –
to find us again

as pages
made holy –
this lesson divine
is more than a telling
how two became one
what of tomorrow
the past has betrayed
where will i be
when – at last
you are come

lovers one and all ~

sweeter

when bent the oak
to catch the sun –
the slightest truth undone
became of storms
as leaves might sometimes fall
innocence to touch the ground
truth to bear them up
wind to carry
lovers one and all

when moved the rush
of willing waves
cold their fearless cries
as dashed upon the rocks
a centaur fell
green as first the mossy banks
held their secrets long
pressed the way
along the summer swell

blossoms rest
beneath the bark –
pines are lonely here
still reach their bony fingers
toward the light –
tell me there
another tale
of where and when
and whether
we passed before
as shadows of the night

. . .

home to you ~

rememberthis

how can I know
of words begin
pretending there be more
would change the past
and clear the page
of verses writ
before

spoke aloud
and screamed sometimes
when longing takes me far
much further now
the silver shines
unbested by the dark
a dip into the wishing well
and things one time
I knew
would light the way
as I have come –
a stranger –
home to you

the journey of becoming
in fated black and white
a jaded note
I found somewhere
was passed to you tonight
do you know
the way they worry
the things they say sometimes
of ways I feel
I’ve found my way
into your every rhyme

held against
your darkest ink
tied to words unsaid
remember me
the way we were
the way I loved instead
of this I am
tho far it seems
for truth the poet yearns
retelling our begining –
another love
to learn

theyknowmethere

of solitude
no worse for grace
alone is not so very
as stars to swear
allegiance to the soul
gathered breath into the wake
of one more everafter
I shall live
in heavens I have known

find me near
the water’s edge
beneath a pink umbrella
swept along with dreams
the wait becomes
past the turn in churning
one more tender take
spring is fell
and love is just begun

essencehere

would give myself
I don’t know how –
of direction left to go
forgiven me a lie I understood
the lessons made
of leaving –
words don’t taste the same
time has left me waiting
as it should

touch reserves
a place beneath
the places I’ve become –
something I can’t tell
the way it is
as much a part
as red run deep
as dark my sleep to fear
dreams are nothing I’m prepared
to miss

seems as though
the past recalls –
just a road I took from here
returning to a destiny
I knew
sweet the folded
almost map –
tucked inside my heart
roads are meant to find me
finding you

within the reborn
dust of earth –
within these gentle grasses
whispers hide
as secrets gathered all
life begins
anew I find –
most every day awakens
to take my breath
before the evening call

verses read
to soothe the soul –
while memory – her mother
lies awake the night
to hear us breathe
quiet as the covenant
was made
before this passing
prayers are lost
– and still to love
we cleave

magic

e’en now
I remember
a sliver of moon
tiny white shells
on the ground
poems were written
each night
as I lay
neath a cradle of stars
– a heart without sound

committing to memory
every fissure of light
as wings gave name to the wind
I began to tell stories
of how it might be
– the grief of a sailor
returned by the sea

in search
of the lost
some answer to find
tho weaved to a locket
his share
were happiness more
than a place
on the map
a long ago something
no one compares

how the pines
loved the river
for reasons unknown
boats rushed the current
to home

birthed into fortune
restless to wake
dreaming the color
of oceans unseen
quiet keeps silent
the pulling apart –
as shores shy away
from the green

Author’s Note: A little history. I awake more
than most in the midst of the night – holding to
words I can’t say. Launched from the bed
by the promise of page – I sit in the still –
telling stories by dark. Some call them rambling;
others, meant to be.

fallingstill

touch me
without knowing
what will work
and what will lose –
moments without rush
to understand

the dreams of shared
illusion –
I turned
and you were there
standing with forever
in your hands

dare me love
and I won’t give
of memories – my soul
a morning after
never meant for much

the sweetest verse
became perfume
I wear most every day
reminders –
now reminding me
to love

sweat the night
the smallest sigh
will get me
every time –
were heaven falling
echoes down to rain –

last I knew
you’d find me here
the same
tho nothing easy
catch my smile –
as here I fall again

wish into word ~

surely

here
and I listen
speak and so slowly
the dark pulls away from the night
a prisoner stirs
from secrets well kept
and leans her way
into light

forgiven
to being
forgotten allegiance
even now –
my whispers are heard
in places kept safe
by coming and going
– scattered as wish
into word

stay my communion
as one shade of summer
skylight confessions
I make
flush with the shadow
of all night returning
– will love find my arms
when thought
stirs awake
