instrumental

the rain has come
atlantis
where are you gone
what legions knew
yet turned
your will away
separated
now again –
by miles
and men and more
yet still when nights
are cold –
I hear you pray

wherein the sin
you might have been
kept your lies
beneath
covers even now
the longer bed
an orchestrated
guillotine
sanctified by fire
broken hearts
around your skirt
are spread

o tell me
once again as I
this restlessness betray
to know the truth
was ever yours
to tell
ashes float
a solemn rift
voices rise beyond
spirits speak
of sorrows –
weaved into the veil

gather me
surrender me
lest I come again
to blossom
where your path
is willed to go –
life is where
I love the most
rhyme within
my words
more than faith –
a part of this
I know

for one day
I’ll discover –
the way was come
for me
knew my name
before the heavens set
held by breath
a fragile soul –
winds were waiting still
an evermore
awaits without
regret

of late –
I’m reminded
of years already gone
places I can touch
as would I please
dream beyond
my sleeping –
as one with I the night
wills my tired body
to my knees

sitting
now the silence
where sunlight
yesterday
fell against
a broken window pane
warmed a region
of my heart
thought was meant
for chill –
fires burn
despite
the pouring
rain

near

mindful I
of places
you’ve remembered me
before
and times you can’t recall
you knew my face
within the crowd
beneath the lights
floating in the dark
– another love
with lifetimes
to retrace

the truth
from lines
already made
into your weathered brow
crissed and crossed
a map
along your hand
pardon my intrusion
into futures unforseen
– destines beyond
the one you planned

stars have watched
a many year
in want for just one kiss
dreaming spent
for reasons still unknown
eternities are painted
to places
you can’t see –
and here I am
reminding you of home

I can see the other side

listen
do you hear
the memory of wind
a trust of almost everything
we know
echoes of any ancient crest
winging o’er the pines
remembrance of a valley
far below

silence
do you feel me
whispers of your heart
a moment of submission
rattles still
as melody
of mountain streams
rivers nearly dry –
now are come
our letting to reveal

story
might we gather
around the sacred page –
to speak aloud
of times
we wandered through
breathless as beginning
leaves of winters past
fragile break –
as grace we fell into

listen
do you hear
the memory of wind

stories

TO THE DESCENDANTS
OF THE GREAT EUROPEAN TRIBES
by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
(with permission)

If you would look into the last room
of the starry night,
there are powers there with names:
Tannenbow, Valdar, Yaga, and others.
They are your ancestors,
they sneeze with all the waiting for you.

They want to give you sword-making,
show you hidden ore amongst earth’s gasses.
They, like you, are a dust of glitter and light.
The names, the names. . .
call them by name,
for they have gone shadowy
from lack of your remembering,
from lack of your love.

Your Deep Earth Drum still lives,
though more more faint now.
Down there they have a theater waiting,
one that is lit by storms;
it takes only a name to start it.

Some firesides, the good princes show up;
the blind one who steals earrings
during the night shows up;
the wise one who sings souls into Nod;
the long-chin who concocts sweets,
and herbs for healing,
who lays huts of boughs for grieving,
and extracts her cost.

The one who bleeds gold,
breathes there.
The one who releases the bright,
burning fire arrow, lives there.
They are all there.
Your ancestors live!

Quick! the names,
the names. . .
call them by name. . .
before they lose all water
and die.

~*~

The charge of the storyteller is more than one of weaving,
reciting, entertaining.  It is a remembering of the start and a perception
of no ending.  It is the past brought forward into the now,
where it is made sense by those who have waited to be a part.

There is truth deeper than your bones, where the story
lives.  There, the proof of other dreams is feeding your own.

moments

it seems
I’ve forgotten
the reasons for us
and where you were going
before I came down
– a breeze
from the mountains
as light from the east
– a some kind of angel
in white cotton gown

at the mention of always –
sometimes I loose sight
of the way
that the world takes her time
as balanced perfection –
wherein I forget
the beauty of presence
divine

a scatter of ashes
in clusters of blue –
a sign by the side
of a once traveled road
remembers our passing
as time
on the map –
a place come of knowing
– of dreams
taking hold

backagain

what memory
have you of this
of ways before the start
we dreamed a world
beyond our pulled apart
beyond this night
forgotten –
another willed to be
echoes down the meadow
from the sea

floated past the window
inches from the grey
ashes fell
reminding me to pray
for someone
without name I knew
someone still to mourn
let me find
remembrance here
an essence
without form

what truth
denies the bending
of sacrifice to sight
leaves the gate wide open
every night
hastens now the winter
to rush the fragile spring
hears the song
made sweeter
by the wing

stilltheyknow

scatter to west
the weight of my winds
as proof of my lowly
remembrance
so dear was the tracing
of ways we were come
to begin
where we ended
before

from the road
even now
forgotten lays best
weeds spent with briar
and thorn
recalled to our worth
existence somehow
shall hold not my heart
for one moment
more

how fitful
this dreaming
this almost becomes –
as you martyr yourself
while I wait
skilled at forgiveness
tho never once asked
the nails almost bent
in surrender
of late

darling
the well
needs repair in the autumn
let not the leaves
have their way
to find what was needed
are souvenirs still
carved into places
time can’t betray

for another
once offered –
begged without word
the meaning of life
from a star
shifted the covers
while silence snuck in
left me a note
of your going
afar

the hinges
have rusted –
and there go the rhymes
tho echoed
by living –
the sharing divine
of a path
not so separate
as the ways you have been
a kiss waiting tender
your coming
again

fringes

living sits the morning long
on fringes of the night
swelled against the aging
silver frawns
how it is I noticed
how it is I stayed
here as your
imaginary sun

truth becomes
the slightest breeze
ushered through the gate
whispers now
of summers
come and gone
reminding me
of almost then
I thought the leaving lost
the way returning here
to not yet known

yellow takes the place
of blue –
purple grieves
the green
a path into the wordless
world beyond
feels the same as some I’ve dreamed
once we moved the same
fit against the going
becoming light
as one

silvermorning

when all I have
is thunder
from another day
not far –
lightening ripped
the curtains from my room
a moment come –
reminding me
of silver ladle skies
a bit of you
tho more – I loved
the moon

of jezebel
and jasmine –
something left me blind
before we spoke
the plan was writ to be
as light
into my windows
burdens robbed of spring
winter slept
in sheets of mystery

verses
chapter –
circumstance
weavers climb and wait
a paradise
where all we know remains
tied up now in story
suns have washed away –
everything
is gone
but for your name

worry not
the taking
leave of all we shared
the world is wild
with secrets
unconfessed
endless as the meadow
became of jupiter
returning me
– a sparrow
to your nest
