SONY DSC

a place
beyond the golden shade
where once
my love was come
sprouted every april
with the sun
garnered me
a letting go
I never could be sure
of memories
left somewhere
I don’t know

while dreaming there
with all the rest
names I dare not say
are folded
soft to verses –
heaven tucked away
in cedar shifts
with last year’s plans
someone else
I knew
would find this way
so different
for our passing
through

fated by the willing
of one
this heart to hold
a rhyme
for every reason
I’ve become
eternities are wasted
in the waning now
for more –
than this
of us
a memory of home

. . .

places I was known ~

whenIcallyourname

wrote of one Kentucky
one blush
became a bride –
of hills and empty spaces
sketched between

the coming back
to hold you –
in threads of willingness
found me here
believing
in a dream

fell awake
beneath the stars
cut of purple light
names and dates
– places
I was known

startled
as a winter lark
backwards through
a storm
silence
finds me better
left alone

once before
as surely soon
I’m bound to
understand
the bliss of leaving
home –
to come again

bittersweet
the ache
that has no memory
of loss –
just a feeling
left of blue
Kentucky
winds

. . .

raindance ~

returned

A solitude emptied
of all that was wanting ~
left us to warm
as graces
to sun.

A place of forgiving
the ways
we had wandered ~
when truth come to find us
the hurting undone.

Would time e’er erase
our seeking of wonder ~
how dear
every measure
of song from the soul.

A lifetime of willing
thoughts
were for touching ~
a heart reminiscing
on stories
untold.

Happiness sits
as dew
on the pasture
bloomed into places
my waking returns ~

A dream without slumber
the flight was so tender ~

would the sin of forgetting
my memory burn.

What sunrise is blushing
beyond this remembrance ~
would cling
to the places
love
still remains.

Light steals my cup
from yesterday’s waiting ~
the breath of forever
smells sweetly
of rain.

. . .

heaven here ~

of one we knew

of heaven here
(a paradise)
of truth
denied our say –
warmed by every
coming home –
(numbering
our days)

held aside
from all we knew –
would find (our love)
the same
as light before
the light was new
(to wonder why)
we came

shame
the locks
for breaking
before the sun we rose
with questions
not for taking back –
in living (now
we know)

. . .

might I wonder
even now –
to the ways
I might have been
tho far away
the evidence
of truth

reminders of kentucky
– red
above the pines
hurry me these lessons
to believe

you’d come again
to love me when
I wonder –
now I know
of words so few
remain as warm
my heart

where miles
and someone
understood –
ways beyond our way
across the creek
into an empty sky

leave
and I shall follow
in essence
known as thought
sense
to know –
the ways you’d find
me still

. . .

undenied

dreams melt easy
into places of home
a box in the attic
of truths
holding still
as little green stamps
held to a page
would buy us the heavens
– a treasure of will

feathering
shadows to dance
up above
the ceiling takes life
of her own
ushering thought
into meaning returned
wrapped in a blanket
of old

strange
our repentance
our surrender to more
than a dollar made do
with the coming
to whole
to see without seeing
to know
all we keep
where value is kept
in the attic
of soul

. . .

the only me I know ~

last I knew

there was a place
we were going
never knew from where
we came
our dreams were old
but dying meant
we’d never leave again –
we could take of these
and leave the rest behind

there was a spot
along the highway –
we stopped just yesterday
and counted miles
stones and stars –
the distance to today
never stayed for long
the holding on
was more than we
could take

was a breath before I caught it
pushed away

there were words
denied of meaning
thought denied a place –
wings the width of shoulders
held together
strings of grace

there were maps
to match –
and ways to clear
cedars filled with swallows
and blue –
the deepest blue
beyond the trees

never looked the same
when looking back
recalled another morning
when cotton floated
low above the fields

it seems that way
the way it was –
and I with love to squander
could have sworn I held your hand
and closed my eyes

eternity
was always more
than I could dare imagine –
when a moment stretched
to take of time –
the only me
I know

. . .

destinies

gather not
to story
the wages
made of sin
forgiving fault
– were grace
to take us in

speak not ill
the passing
lest for stones
your journey stall
remembered love
was come
to save us all

each tender word
– a sacred touch
of truths
we cannot see
alight the path
of darkness
our chosen destiny

a bitter charge
delayed us once –
mending now the whole
scars
the same as falling stars
aligning heart
and soul

. . .

and still ~

rebirth

as time
removed
the realm of clock
bound not hand
to hand –
dreams may change
tho here we are
the same

worn into
the waking
of one more chilly dawn
names are held
in silence –
prayer
becoming light

as faith
to carry –
safe within the
colors of my soul
echoes of forever –
a story
left untold

before
and still
I know
as I know
you won’t forget
there were some
you loved
– and some
who love you
yet

. . .

closerme

split the light
to shadows
chance of
willing tears
to wash the lawn
and there
granddaddy
gleans

pressed against the shutters
almost made it in
before the night
made claim
to different dreams

scattered round
were wishes
some fallen
eager stars –
and wings remembered
way too close
the flame

embers
turned to ashes
someone grieves
their leaving home
I shall pray
for one more morning

stay

with want
for ever after –
a paradise
made here
quiet
as the morning
climbs the trees
