canecreekbridge

curses
catch the sheets on fire
when chance
you swore to leave
broken
every plate I own
decided not to grieve

for the busted chair
the heavy heart –
weeds to crowd my soul
a bridge in need
of mending –
morning whispers
cold

as winter warned
the flame to die –
with promises of spring
ashes silt the corners
reminders –
every thing

of yesterdays
returned anew –
the choice made long ago
flowers bloom
in shades of smoke
– for reasons
I don’t know

. . .

Author’s Note:  I’ve been carrying this
picture around for almost three
years…..waiting for words
to wake me.

whereverIam

mother calls
on sunday
while daddy listens in
catching up –
it seems we’ve done it all
someone had a baby
someone said hello –
fifty years of loving
to recall

strung the line
for forty feet –
sheets out in the rain
a cigar box
of memories to share
everything
(the best of me)
sits in spools of rhyme
the night is lost
when I don’t
find you there

there’s a piece of thread
nearly gone –
and jeans I shouldn’t wear
just beyond the reach
of mystery
beyond the hold
of all I love –
another morning news
the moon is wanting in –
let him be

storyme

between the cracks
where summer sweats
remembrance of the winter
as pink
our favored mittens –
(yesterday)
were granted us permission
to take of all we have
caught us up
in moments
 – breath is stealed
away

were sorrows
not so many
tho bliss is kept apart
pressed into the creases
a destiny betrayed
honey bees are floating
out beyond the storm
love is come –
forgiven what we never could
repay

asIhavewaited

dare me live
within this hope
of others – none as I
to keep your needs
unlock your cellar doors
as harnessed
by a memory –
became the only one
beyond this setting
shadow –
of loves we knew
before

as written by
the willing rush
of sun into the sea
as scarlet flame
immersed in sudden blue
time denied the keeper
stay with me
the now –
and I shall bring
forever home
to you

wheatandworry

how could you know
unknowing –
of ways before we were
as light between the candle
and the flame
a touch of almost
nothing
fades without you here
how could you know –
my skin don’t feel
the same

as living unexpected
when thought my purpose done
fields are growing
over yesterday
grain is separated
golden from the chaff
as pieces
never meant
are blown away

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAmorning comes
remembering –
another dawn I lay
wrapped in softest linen
counted sleep
folded now to memory –
stored upon the shelf
take me down
as moments –
left to keep

someIknow

within this softer summer
an evening storm
is come
to wash the last
of winter
from my bones
here the babies gather
with stories yet to tell
as songs made new
except as we become
surrendered to the longing
set the table right –
and say the names
once more
before amen

morningofbeginnings

from the first
a whisper came –
beheld me to november
to wishes
(you remember)
touch divine
a barefoot side of heaven –
as once I thought you knew
a dusted floor
where sunlight split
the pines

a cedar box
of rusted fame
with ne’er a truth to carry
the key is gone –
but for the lock I saved
china plates
will nothing match
these shades of sarsaparilla
blessings of
another time –
forgave

crooked boards
and needs to tend –
tho who will understand
the ways I came
to walk these fields alone
tempted into trouble
morning warms the same
the night so still –
that all the stars have gone

stillIshallbe

silence partakes
of all that we matter –
streams through the kitchen
and runs down the hall
forgotten the sound
of laughter repenting
ignorance waits
to steal from us all

weak from the struggle
stronger the scars
are folded as wings
paper white –
the last time we noticed
was the first
we were loved
as silent to speak
in defense of the night

were morning left over
love coming down –
as black turns his face
on the dawn
little we know
the end just beginning
as destiny wills us
remember –
move on

closer

who are you
the winter cried –
as green began to gather
taken by surprise
his woolen cloak

who are you
to come for me –
robbing me of stories
white as comfort
lay atop the sheets

who are you
with sharpened bill
to bury in my bosom –
left of times before
one seed remained

a messenger
of almost light –
December
freed of fortunes
now to break me open
with your sun

who are you
to find me here –
knowing (as you know)
tears already melted
– rivers
wear my name

anastasia

she wakes
and I am waiting
the meaning of her sighs
as pink and yellow ribbons
to the wheat
washing now
in rivers – of divine
her mysteries
fill the soul
deciding
not to sleep

she loves
and I am willing
one more life
this one to save –
another time
for other loves
the same –
scarlet brush of passion
marks a morning sky
angels weep
with memory of night

she sees
and I am ever
as a child into her fold
pressed against the bosom
of her sin
carried as a baby would
let me lead –
I will
know as she is knowing
of the truth
she wakes
within
