breathless

help me
to give you
the music of making
more than one sunrise
more than one
song

leaves
the color
of jasper and topaz
bloody red color of choice
as I was
written to sunsets
before

painted to circles
and splashes of light
outside the lines
remained
of the heart

chased as a feeling
from shadow
to shade
cooled in the places
you are

favored companion
white linen tapers –
a wind of a whisper
somewhere

fearless to fly
past the edge
of remember
confession of colors –

tis the only
we dream

the heart of surrender ~

temptation

the spinner
of light
burns paisley to shadow
forward and back
as waltz into flame

the memory of heat
at the heart of surrender ~
a warning spilled soft
from yet silent
mouths

sonnets etched
in the rush to remember
black velvet coats
of royal recall

skirted the night
in search of another
saved from detection ~
where burning
we sailed

. . .

worn ~

fragile eternity

beyond
these distractions
of pillar and pause
easy financing
of all we could want –
will finds a way
in the silence for speaking

yet muffled the voice
of the heart

wrapped in confusion
experience worn –
each to its own time and place
fated regard of
temporal illusion –

were not for the seeing
we saw

wasted as time
stole away with the clock
woke but a moment
too late
counting possessions
from memory they were
and swore not to dreaming
again

lest something
be missing
was not on our list
how could forever be gone
when kept on the shelf
with things
we have not –

lifetimes forgotten
to live

lost in the leaving ~

choices

a wave
through the window
as life pulled away
for moments
your hand on the glass

reasons I’ve yet
to remember the same
– lifetimes returning
too fast

to eyes out of focus
grace without fear
to know
as I know
what was waiting
me here

were you lost
in that leaving
or felled by the light
as the sun burned a scar
to the glass

questions
unanswered

by distances come
in a blink –
was eternity known
left as a warmth
on a still fragile day
reason –
much harder
to own

a gift
when hands
found truth
in the touching –
a wave reconciled
to the last

unsettled ~

remember

of dying
I have but a faint
recollection
gathered in pieces
of living before
sometimes a flood
of almost not memories
of people and places
I’ve known
yet I don’t

exactly the moment
but there in my keeping
a moment unsettled
was yet to be dreamed
how is it I’ve passed
into newness
becoming
and kept of the leaving
some worries undone

a flaw in the story
was stumbled in finding
mornings of lifetimes
within the same sun
nights
as the moon
lay on my shoulder
stars – an illusion
I named every one

slowly but surely
threads to unravel –
knotted so many
the charms working free

from all
that we wondered
unchanged by the dying
are faraway traces
still living in me

shades of cedar ~

trust

were there storms before
we lasted –
and now the signs are gone
scars remain
but not with thought to loss
or changes due
their coming back
stories writ by time
sweetened now by tenderness
and truth

forgiven are the choices
were come the sake of love
would not I know
I’d make the same again
flush against the feeling
blossomed by the bliss
wishing long on stars
still hang the sky

lace is streamed
from evergreen
robins crowd the yard
where morning bread
was scattered from the porch
silhouette of winter shapes
the fences falling down
I sit awhile
wrapped in solitude

a quilted patch
called living
no pattern but of love
tiny hands once stitched
and cursed and made
destinies to warm me
more I’ve yet to see –
coffee cold
but still it makes me sing

where we were
we are the same –
as silence keeps the dawn
showers fall
and there the seeds
redeemed
quietly the sunlight stirs
life in shades of cedar –
witness to the waking
pulls the love
around

. . .

close ~

rails

of mysteries
unraveled –
hours into lives
leaving naught a sign
of where we were
rings into an aged oak
rails no longer sing –
winking now to sails
beyond the dark

evidence of faraway
sits in rust and briar –
almost gone
and who is left to tell
dusty roads
and no one else
knows the ways we came
to understand
truths another held

as pieces
of forever –
fold into the apron
stones are falling
someone let them in
doors to squeak
against the hinge
hold my hand
and sway

lunas tease the seeker
from the din

bittersweet
the ancient hymm
sang us once to death
as melody laid soft
upon the snow –
fleeting life
remembering the reasons
come again

close the night
and lets pretend
we know

softer rhyme ~

breathing

pages worn
our lines apart
rhyme eternal one ~
failing as the reader to resign
fingers fumble
ink becomes ~
a souvenir of will
verses bent us double
to begin

read to me
of where we wait
still in chapters bare
press into
these mysteries

of skin
vowels displaced by wonder –
breath where longing pools
margins far too wide

to keep us in

numbers resurrected
one more place to be –
were ever there
a crime of destinies
line by line

rhythm caught in places
never said –
mark the page
for keeping me –
held by love again

. . .

seventh sun ~

waiting

come
the lights are fading –
last year’s hay is in the barn
lines are drawn
and still I grieve
the comfort
of your arms

come
while yet
the lantern glows
yellow on the fields
rest your heart
against this lowly one

I won’t ask
the reasons –
goodbye was not for long
awaited me a season –
just as strong

as we tarried
with beginning
making moments of our past
forgotten every ending
we had planned

who’s afraid
of dying
when living rides
the fence –
where stillness blows
from long ago
the same

come
the church bells ringing
as they were
for yesterday
we worried for our passions –
debts to pay

stay
but for a lifetime
lest moths consume
the flame
– or ashes
quell the silence –
to wonder why
we came

mercury
is rising
constellations
crowding now
ribbons tied by living –
weave me into you
somehow

on and on ~

comfort

when voice
is forgotten
might words have their say
and sit in the silence
of dreams

fastened to longing
as a string to the sky
where wishes float
back to the last
lonely night

when names
are forgotten
but fortunate few
are gifted a side
in the telling

might then I be known
as a star sailed away
or stillness where
echoes one voice
