beyond the creek
where once we played –
the roses ever bloom
in shades of love we carried
the sweetest of perfumes

as destinies
we came to see –
the lives we touch always
in truth beyond our stretch of years
and days beyond our days

shall keep in each a memory
of presence you know best
within these halls of slumber
another dream to rest

though offered here –
a whisper
of your spirit to the wind
another day
we’ll find our way –
to be with you
again

beyond this careful tending
to the grace
would keep us whole
another life awakes to strains
assurances bestowed

was more than this
we lived for –
more than this to find
answers fall to questions
never asked
love the only trace
we leave behind

as proof we were
apart from all
the sorrows we endured
fulfilled in moments come for us
our purpose to ensure

for who will come
some other day
and look for us the same
in that which lives
beyond our lives –
to join love’s sweet refrain

in the grandest of cathedrals
the silence of the tomb
in forests
where forever nests
beyond the reach of ruin

no different
for ages passed –
or tongues
the heart to still
one grace shall be remembered
as destiny fulfilled

when coming home
across the tides
ten thousand leagues to stand
on shores we knew
awaited us –
a time to understand

of wisdom now returning
the answer –
why we came
as love in one becoming
a truth we know
by name

songs were meant for you ~

as I have been
I am no less –
repeating truths aloud
something secret
captured by the wind

the same as stories –
chapters fell
as red and yellow turning
maple keeps them best
but willow wants

witness as was I
to songs were meant for you
when last I was
before we came to be

remembered
every holding on
before this hour forgiven
light reflecting
comfort through the trees

and you were there
for in that place
I found another reason
it mattered not
these mysteries to tend

was all the time
with want for none
but to find you (as you found me)

talking down the leaves –
secrets to the wind

never lost ~

have found my way
tho never lost –
to wandering I am
the line was never written
yet the dreamer read it well –

as nights rolled up
along the edge
of ancient constellations
I listened as you
reminisced on
unseen (other) lives –

of places
not so very far –
each name repeated softly
so still their echoes
settle in my ear
as somewhere we
become again –
wherever dreams revealing
of lights beyond
this passing into us

holding hands
beneath the breath
of venus everafter –
shimmers now
the same as she did then

remembers us
of passing through –
forests of submission
takes my breath
to know she knows
your heart

crushed ~

it matters not
to those who wait
how long the truth
in coming –
would words bring recognition
of touch already known

visions past
are come again
as moments passed unnoticed
turned away
from yesterday –
seekers turned to stone
a sprig of purple blossom
was crushed beneath the linen
tied with satin ribbon
(the only one I own)

still takes of breath
and moves a tear (to falling)
just the same
though nothing keeps
a memory of names –
a place where we were going
another starting from to choose
did you see me
walking somewhere
near the shore

I don’t know how
or why the sand was wanting
for the waves –
a breeze to blow
I close my eyes (again)
would listening betray my trust
of other times (I wonder)
though worlds apart –
the tide still pulls me home

tiny (broken) seashells
pass my story to the sea
and roll away
before the others know
where I was
and where you were
when parted by the breakers
peculiar our surrender
to the moon

when painted black
midnight fell – reflection
on the waters
a letter once you wrote
has found its way to me

from a place already started
I kept so few of these –
moments fell from lives
already done
whispers of the oldest breeze
cools familiar suns –
and rivers travel
backwards to the sea

somewhere else
my name is given –
tho I can’t recognize
the timber of affection
the permanence of grace
written by the one to know me
(now to know me still)
tho just as I
without the whole
of time

or memory
of why this way
and when another passed
as woodsmoke from the valley
kissed the morn

as light before I felt it
warmth against my cheek –
and nights I’ve walked for miles
in search of more
than what I sense in secret –
a music none can hear
a moving through
the wilderness of I

creation frees
ten thousand tides
spun of finest wings –
circled in a forest left behind –
poems writ on reams
of maple leaf –
breath retracing
rings of destiny

verses strung
from branch to branch
answers stitched between –
the hand I know
still holding
from the fall

becomes a dream ~

And here a place
remembered now –
an old familiar longing.
Somewhere I stood
forgotten not
(the way) the trees were bent.

Spinning worlds
of scarlet rapture –
passion pushed us skyward
to places I was known –
a name I wore.

To give of faith uncertain –
might hold me closer (still)
a moment more
than ever I recall.
The proof of life is giving
lovers will again –
bound to all
that matters now (is love).

Needs not a voice
professing –
or signs we failed to see.
A kinder place
(to live) becomes our dream.
Surrendered every burden
(come as whispers to the bed)
yet stalks the darkest night
in search of me.

Across and through
these broken panes –
sunlight weaves to shadow.
As planets fall –  ungirded
and I am swept away
unto a path – I knew the same
(can’t be the only one).
Was walking toward the light
awaiting me.

Might breath concede –
as I have kept
to truths (I dare not utter)
or take of this
a vow – to save my soul.
Before the dawn comes surely –
what more shall I conceive
to hold anew –
the places I have loved.

Might I endure
another death – with choice
to reach the crossing –
else dying leave
reminders to my skin.
As I have known
(will know me then)
love that calls me (sweetly).

Eternity returning me –
to find my home again.

destined (remember) ~

Awaiting
the seasons –
we were destined (remember)
to find in this madness
each other (again) –
something you said
as the light was first fading.

I turned –
you were already gone
and there – in the face
I was given to love –
a trace of another (I know).
A map of the heavens –
foretold of this crossing
a need for returning
this place (to my soul).

Would leave
without want
for some other (beginning) –
a day like today
(take me home).
To bargain with love
(one more so familiar).
This nothing is something
I’ve known.

I stood in the sun
we vowed to remember
as lifetimes (no more)
fell away.
Moments enduring –
their reach – everlasting
reminders of gardens
(another bouquet).

Closing my eyes
as essence (returning)
defies the illusion of time –
(where was I now)
before you were going –
renewed by a moment
(beginning)
divine.

twelve steps ~

It seems a month
has passed since Sunday
~ last I checked the trees were bare.
The orchard grieves the scent
of apples ~
and grace is showing
everywhere.

The fence is down
~ though not to notice
how I missed the letting go.
With heart so focused on forever ~
never took of time
to know.

Nor planned to be
this far from leaving
~ this near to hearts already closed.
Twelve from gone
and two from dying ~
in the same sweet bed
where I was born.

Eighteen dreams
and sixteen babies
~ lost my faith in men this time.
Begged an end tho nothing mattered
more than this ~
my truth to find.

From here to go
as where life leads me
~ takes me back
the way I came
to unremember every mercy ~
kisses taste for years
the same.

As gravel roads
in twilight glisten
~ empty rooms
(to candle flare).
Paced the porch
from birth to breaking ~
awaiting dawn
to find you
there.

rest with me ~

From that which is
becoming –
life returns for me.
Memoirs offered by the night –
loving strains to be.
As written down a reason
when there seemed no hope for more –
as promise left to moments –
where once (we were)
before.

Of tenderness
I choose again –
kind as kindness knows.
There is no love we leave behind –
it goes as we would go
Restrained by none
but onliness –
love becoming more.
As we would show (in giving of)
wisdom waited for.

To find anew
these mysteries –
let the sayer have his day
to storm the path
of living –
and not our light betray.

Hold me now –
(as I shall hold)
let rivers chase my name –
that I might seed compassion
on the sea.

Tell them all I went the way
of locust come July –
the way of laurel
stilled by winter frost.
A softer sigh –
as silence waits
to heal the waning moon.

Love shall find
acceptance here –
beyond the threat of loss.
