backwards
and still –
I come every time
forgetting againremains
what was never my lot –
a river of feathers
float on the air
crushed by the branches
in rush
to the sea

of white
honeysuckle
the hardest
of pearls –
hands thick as bark
beaded briar
whispers long buried
as story with stone
lacey white nest
of the earth

wing’ed the velvet
of once magic swords
pass as a thought into day –
stallions embarked
on paths cross the deep
nature foretelling
the depth of

our sins

ripples are tracing
paths –
thru the black
lost are the seasons
unspoken
 by name

babies are crying
somewhere past the dark –
stars feel their way
to the sun

messenger

heaven pulls the
mountain –
from his fragile wedding bed
anchored by the river
to her song –
breezes haunt the tired soul
dragonflies to hover
stilled in place
remembering
our soul

one more verse
will cover me –
one more birth to fall
as waters move
around me in the cold
quietly – a soft amen
rustles from the trees
brittle leaves
dance atop
the foam

let indeed
the shadows shine
with mystery uncertain
swirls beyond
this wake of circumstance
magic lies
in wilderness –
bound by fragile thorns
journey on
and I shall find you
there

resolved

draw my place
in shades of green
a forest where I linger
wrapped in songs
as once you sang for me

still my silence
with your beat –
suffer me your knowing
trust the night to keep us –
draw my place
in thee

swoon

sweet resurrection
of once sacred light
splinters
the length
of my breath
rolls off the roof
of yesterday’s barn
swept as my prayers
o’er the dew

purple and pale
yellowing truths
none yet
have known how to write
of shadowings chased
til their brilliance

grew still
and day
spoke of night
thru her tears

behind

mercies I’ve known
of more than my share
and places
the world disregards

let them fall
into slumber
let their kind burn away
but for notions and living
so misunderstood

would wish not the knowing
our lives to embrace
or beauty the colors
we’ve not yet
to see

split between ruby and red
and whites the same
virgin
as doves to the sky
in a postcard of Jesus
stood by the sea

would ever these eyes
be meant to recall
the differences
more
than we wanted
to be

arrival

when the sunrise
strains to being –
scarlet rinse of consciousness
will then your knees
be broken –
your burden
bowed

when the warmth
that is your body
fails to know you as before –
will you feel the
tender need
to tell
it all

when the path
you thought
would take you home
is taking you no further
than the floor
beside your bed –
already
known

when the moon
has failed to hold you
in the place
where once you dreamed –
will the prayers
you dare to speak
be understood

when the faith
you kept
is strengthened
by wisdom born of love –
will light concede
this setting –
your place
beside the sun

dreamscape

as one
within the quiet
a dream I can’t retire
like still the
peacock pillows
puddle orange light
as years beyond
the telling –
of every
almost story

blue veins weave
my mystery
slid beneath my surface
as golden rivers
melt the willing ice
remembered me
another sun –
beyond the leaving time
held within the passions
of the deep

fail me with
the memories
and wait the lights
to fade –
as secrets scatter
broken to the glass
come the grace
of morning –
as praise for nights between
will find me here
wondering why
it is

fingers warm
the spindle –
of an ag’ed spinning wheel
crimson threads
burn through these realms
of steel

redemption

loose the leaf
that has not love
would scorn the bitter ivy
 to thrive within
the autumn wind’s distress
take of hands
the soft heart
feathers
round the damaged soul
when mattered once –
the whole of one
to love

bless the wrongs
of suffered right –
wisdom surely come
to claim
the lowly wanderer
again
bear the wings
of angels –
to fly our spirits home
forgotten now the leaving
to atone

dry the tears
and heal the hurt –
bloom these gardens new
with flowers
of remembrance to our name –
sprouted from our sorrows
nurtured by our sins
forgiven us the weeds
that right
our stone

willing

carve to my cup
hand painted finches
and mid-evil strings
of haiku
ten thousand traces
invisible graces
– truth come of nothing
when nothing
would do

quilt me a blanket
of storyful wonder
three times more red
than ever was blue
stiches so small
the past won’t unravel
wherever the future –
I’m taking it too

loblolly pinecones
cover the ground – as hands
to surrender the keys
stay for the telling
I swore to remember –
of spirits returning
their light to the trees

build me a nest
of lapis and whiskers
copper with sorrows divine
clear me a place
hung high in the timbers –
stay for the grieving
or leave us
behind

purple dreams

whatever now
the thought has been
that I might die the winter –
and go to sleep
beneath the frigid wind
warmed below
an icy shawl –
tears would never melt
or blossoms see
their way again
to grow

of princes come
for me before –
and waited long this night
returning me a path
I’d never been
worn in places
some would say
they saw me fly one morning –
held within a stream
of northern lights

iris stands
two hundred strong –
naked in surrender
as dreaming
burst to life
another day
when words were fallen
easily –
as whispers to the dawn
withholding yet a place
to lay me down
