I might have told –
might have willed my lips
to speak
to whisper of a future
not so far along were we
promise met
with something more –
a universe to save
pressed you to my heart
til I unwillingly
forgave
wayward
constellations
taking comfort with the stars
carved our names
as ancient flames
entrusted
to the dark

where intention
spilled to the light
flailing as vows
to be heard
a long night beginning
with no easy answers –
let me sleep
with my heart
on your sword
i am graces
neglected –
secrets let be
lifetimes made over
again
let me stay
for a moment
before I am fade
to nothing
but words
on your skin

you were waiting
the first alarm to ring
would pull me
from my dream
into your arms
into the warmth of sunrise
burning me your skin
restless in our
promise
to begin
wrapped inside
a silence –
the measure of a sigh
intimacy
with barely room
to breathe
touch is come
reminders
of the night we’ve
passed beyond
forgotten now
the fleeting thought
to leave

is squandered
by need to have it all
as every lock
a silent sigh
is witness to a fall
as promise balanced
tender
upon the sword of faith
how is it
love is come for us –
with gifts
to give away
denied the rules
for holding on –
some loss
we’ll never know
of fated ever-afters
revealed
in letting go
. . .
Author’s Note: It took me a long time to learn this about love. It took most of my life to see that any attempt to define love only served to make it less. Every rule resulted in less of the thing I desired most. Only when the rules were burned did I reap an abundance of that which had so alluded me.

of a springtime –
of yellows undefined
hidden meadows
weaved by muscadine
a story still becoming
you were here
and I was saved
held against the tender
fold
where april
bled to may
shall I tell you
how I loved you –
how your want
filled every need
like a window
where my shadows
used to be
with ne’er a thought
to anything
would steal me from this light –
to sever
every memory
of spring

take my everything

empty places
I am found –
for the resurrected moment
you return
as daybreak
thru my windows –
a voice within the dark

this dreamer dreams
we are one

the revelation –
as starlings taking flight
a touch without salvation
to defend
I will linger
as a promise
of some other come for me
a poet without cause
or destiny
I shall wait
the morning after
wherever hope is stored
trusting light
to find the light
in love
we knew

is written –
to the rafters
of your heart
a purple painted
flower
faded now
what of words
I worried with –
were washed out
by the flood
letters set to sail
beyond your touch
what of ink
has stained your hands
worn your fingers blue
a rhyme
no longer worthy
but to curse
were there pages
still to ponder –
moments meant to keep
safe within the
memory
of verse
