barbedwire

were this
the end of reason
a death to yesterdays
of feelings lost –
longing
burned away

if all I’d loved
were given rhyme –
destiny unknown
places to surrender
every breath –
I own

verses weaved
with evermore –
winter wheat and sage
words I saved another
– whispers
from the page

what truth
remains unspoken
of moments loved I best
a life well lived –
so silently
confessed

neartohome

from death
the heart is blinded
to loves
we loved before
a promise made one summer’s eve –
the vow of evermore

what memories
would grieving bear
the wrath of consequence
a moment unremembered –
when nothing else
makes sense

how much of this
was traded
for a kiss
beneath the fall
how much became of destiny
was ne’er a choice
at all

fireflies

there’s something here
more than life –
or the mourning of beats
strum
strum
strum
from the depths of becoming
a devil –
a saint
worried anew
o’er things we have lost
tho tied not a fret
to the things we have not
–  ways we let go
or the path walked upon
forgotten the promise
made long ago
prayers rarely granted
by those without sin
to those without measure
for where love
begins

almosthomenow

frame this horizon
with all I have witnessed
crowd to the corner
where heart meets to soul
bear me the weight
no more than a memory
of destiny traded
to a dream long ago

laundry and laces
cracked oatmeal glasses
parts given way
as collections laid bare
black and white stories
are telling without us
faded a photo
of a photo somewhere

who is that boy
at the edge of the smiling
where now his reasons
though lost once before
held by a longing
bigger than pardon
when left his horizon
my own to restore

let me love you
while I can –
while my hands
can decipher
the map of your soul
the breadth
of your journey
merging with mine
for a moment
untested –
the beginning
of time

let me love you
while I can –
while these bones
can remember
the fusion of wills
fingers weaving
with fingers
toes to curl
forgive me this –
the beginning of all
I’d forgotten
to miss

beyond
the reach of always
where questions
often hide
tis there you love –
as wings above
the tide

how many
are the lives between
the first
the last and then –
a place
we’ve yet to understand
awaits our time
again

I wonder
when the moon is filled
do you linger with
its rise
across the page
of ages past –
to sit atop
the sky
