waiting

come
the lights are fading –
last year’s hay is in the barn
lines are drawn
and still I grieve
the comfort
of your arms

come
while yet
the lantern glows
yellow on the fields
rest your heart
against this lowly one

I won’t ask
the reasons –
goodbye was not for long
awaited me a season –
just as strong

as we tarried
with beginning
making moments of our past
forgotten every ending
we had planned

who’s afraid
of dying
when living rides
the fence –
where stillness blows
from long ago
the same

come
the church bells ringing
as they were
for yesterday
we worried for our passions –
debts to pay

stay
but for a lifetime
lest moths consume
the flame
– or ashes
quell the silence –
to wonder why
we came

mercury
is rising
constellations
crowding now
ribbons tied by living –
weave me into you
somehow

Paint and brush
to claim me –
red against your black.
Fair to feathers
floating skyward –
words as silence soar.

Breath to warm
each thrill survived –
hope kept in the dark
sits in boxes –
packing
tissue paper hearts.

Forgetting naught
for why it is –
of all I might pretend
– each time we talk –
a time I fall
again.

Forever waits
unbidden –
a schoolgirl once all over –
yesterday don’t matter
where we are.

With thoughts of you
returning –
same old maps
to borrow.
Roads may get me nowhere –
I won’t miss.

Stay the night
and tell me –
of mysteries to know –

like where the wander takes you
when you go.

Mountains fall
to passages between –
here I am
and you a part
of places I am better.

Line by line –
writing in the dark.

lines of love ~

solitude
to match my eyes
cappucine and copper
til every truth
is fated by the glass

storms of steel
beyond the pond –
black the swan song singing
blush to pale
in blankets of the morn

wheat to sway
as winds to grieve
the answers unforgiving
times before we passed
are with us now

still the pace
of longing –
drawn to lines of love
reach for me
the part of you
unknown

. . .

gather me trumpets –
queen anne
and clover
make of this hour
a memory of bliss
sail me to dream
on the wind of your wishes
wake me to promise –
with naught to resist

roll me in flannel
dress me in cotton
brush to my presence
the damp smell of wheat
one fleeting moment
shall garner eternal
a place on your smile
I was heaven to be

were gifted love
such sweet embrace
of light to word –
and patterns raised

across and through
these onyx skies
as learning writ by lullabyes

as living sworn
to souls brand new
and seasons
I was come for you

on velvet tiptoes
down the board –
as whispers – not a one
I heard

of other lives –
my sore regret
was not for loss or places met –

but hours spent without a kiss
remembered well
the choice for bliss

one day of all
I’ve known would bind
my heart to yours –
as verse with rhyme

would weave the night
as daylight does –
renewed by faith
unmade by love

tis not for warmth
these hands are folded –
or curved to catch
the morning light
moved as silent birds to daybreak –
across and with
each sweet delight

was not for grace
or prayers unspoken –
steeple pointed toward the sky
felt the sound
of angels gathered –
just beyond the reach
of I

beyond the pool
of secrets spilling –
kisses rise from words the same
breath was given rhyme
for telling –
loving wings these hands
became

the dreamer’s map
of north star guiding –
someone asks (as someone knows)
what of hands
were made for speaking –
what of words
we meant to hold

not for slumber ~

get me back
before the morning
falls unnoticed to the lawn
e’er these dreams
resolve to keep me
to the places I’ve become

get me back
before the sunrise
set my feet on firmer ground
leave your essence
to remind me
of another solace found

get me back
tho I grow weary –
not for sleep my body aches
not for slumber
I’ve been missing –
would my senses lie awake

get me back
get me something
more than all
one moment holds –
every image made of heaven
stretched to fit
as love unfolds

get me back
I’ll be waiting
in the places you abide –
beyond the reaches
of forever
I’ll be waiting
with the night

get me back
before the leaving –
lest the daylight find me gone
counting everafter hours
come to sleep
upon the lawn

in the place of omission ~
stories unfold
by a change in my will
to remember
as forgotten the wonder
of promises made
when into this form
I was come

with ache to
discover ~
as truth unto blood
and love (more than heart)
claims my soul
to remain as a moment
passed us into ~
as close now the wind
are the secrets
we know

rekindled
as something
moves me to say
when given of words
soon to pass
solace of angels
comforts to some
shall fill me
to heal me ~
strength I become

is forever a time
for questions undone ~
of ashes blown over
the best of these lines
poems held
to a place
without voice ~
as silence remembers
the last one
to rhyme

if e’er a night
so dark as this ~
and there beyond the window
a single star
stands loyal to the deep
remembered not
the ways I came ~
or skies between to wander ~
was given this
forever ~
a promise still

were ever the distance
from then into now
be more than one lifetime
of living allowed
a sign (without warning)
another sweet smile
of grace in the crossing
as mile welcomes mile

who would know
lest we tell them
of lifetimes before
of living left over
by love – loving more
of a place so much richer
than as this – as we are
given not to a city
a breath or a star

more than name
less than ever
we shall pass – even so
not for years to be counted
or blessings bestowed
would love be constrained
to a time or a place
or touch be recalled
as a fleeting embrace

can it be
I can see
even more – that I feel
what of words rarely spoken
are no less what is real
crossed the night
sans the distance
comes as thought – not so far
can it be I am present
in the places you are

will these voices be lost
to the ages (and then)
might we wake from this dream
remembering when
as will be – it was written
long before we were one
love is more than a moment
to the place
we become
