into
ten million miles
wing’ed lovers fly
eager as the pull
to home –
of once familiar skies

never knew
the way –
never felt the same
was something more to dream
to love
as I was loving you –
every mile between

as memory
committed now –
to feel what is your song
the weathered beat
of rhyme
is versed – equaled
by my own

as thunder
rushed from lightning
falling back in time
the universe has made
a place –
for leaving words
behind

even now
I wish
there were things
that you knew
of places I go
to wander the night
might you see
without sight
like ten thousand before
as spark to the empty –
a star beyond light

as a place
of beginning –
fields standing bare
with will for another
hurt to erase
the memory of ruin
is burdened by grief –
by prayers
never heard –
unspoken to grace

would nature
return
as the first
light was come –
without reason or want
for the falling into
a story awaiting
your hand at the pen
making truth of the darkness
what is seen –
what is knew

to tip the moon over
with silver desire
wings where stars
used to gleam
darkness rocks gentle
the cradle of soul
– canopy stitched
of dragonfly dream

shades of imagine
we fitted with glass –
sails of whisper and lace
cedar white oars
cut ribbons of black –
as streams
sought the night –
our fault to erase

the magical mistress
of wonder made real –
storybook telling
of where we might go
just past the edge
of all they had warned
is a world made
of nothing
we know

were the flowers blooming
yellow –
last night while in my dreams
I stood beneath
a cross
and watched it rain
I remember someone saying
we’d never be the same

cried but I’m not sure
I felt a thing

of taking
I’m not ready
to decide my journey done
hearts to touch
and winds I haven’t seen
blown as north
above the pines
to split my world apart

the universe
remembers me
the same

lying down
or standing up –
waiting this too long
the dream is worn
to pieces –
by my night

for more than this
a dare to wish
and cares to fall unnoticed
gathered us to secret
by the night
moments of forever
so few I can recall –
are learning me
returning me
to worlds
you hold me tight

no more than this
a wish come true
as twilight passes tender
witness to another
this we shared
midnight pried as shadows grew
pulled the deep around
as dreams to catch –
when stars were
everywhere

as one
to this reminded
the air I lean into
breath where not a one
our last became
silence spills
into the place
senses lent to word
knew me not –
or reasons why
I came

touch
o more than touching
would I recall just when
verses moved
my weary soul to flight
have me not
the wherewithal
to know as I am known –
flowers bloom
within the darkness
light

make of me
the twilight bent
o’er places I am home
rumors of some other mystery
washed upon
these eager sands
shores
no longer mine
remnants of a truth
I’m sworn to be

he saved for her
the sunset
he’d been painting (all his life)
as crimson bled
to orange
purple green
a lover’s rite
reflections of the day
he found her standing
near the shore
held her (without speaking)
brushed a dress
of finest oil
silken sable
tipped with gold
steady made her curls
she came to him each night
as was created
other worlds beneath the canvas
(was there life
beyond this one)
he heard the shutters heave
the rafters roar
calmed again the artist’s storm
he found the solace (her)
meadow green
with silver shoes
and palest pink (her stutter)
took his breath
and held him close
in pools of cocoa bean
he knew her
every (blush of) imperfection
had painted her in places
always new
this world of his
how far away
twilight had confessed
to midnight hue
where sunset fell
in shadows (she is waiting)
sapphire blue

years for kindness
this became –
to stand within a circle
heads to bow and hands to join
prayerful all
amen

here and there
from memory –
were truths we dared believe
but none were yet
so great as love
received

as surely was
forgiveness come
without a starlit night
without a ribbon wrapped
to let us know

eternity beginning
in the place
of here and now
were ever there a wll
to make it so

tethered by a promise
come again someday –
make of me
a star in all your dreams
say my name
or keep it
save each tender vowel
last year’s plans
have faded from us now

where we were
and what was meant
some other trust betrayed
a moment came –
eternity
has stayed
the changer with the changing
the dreamer
doesn’t dream –
for only this
the passing into light

burdened not by
stories –
or something
someone said
was life before
a ways – for this to find
measured not to hours
passed
when given love’s embrace
tempted not to taste
a breath divine

as breath
before beginning –
struggles with remembrance
another time when ashes
blew the sky
hearts so far from over
as distant
metal thunder
told of times surrendered
to goodbye

of traces
resurrected –
memories refashioned
to find in one
tho never quite the same
eyes to tear
with telling
where and when our parting –
angels watched
another war to blame

of bourbon skies
and crimson fields –
curs’ed grounds
defeated
for words returned in silence
still we wait
the echoes of confession
a sigh beyond the sorrow
heroes leaving home
outside the gate

mourning doves
are risen –
to gather near the pasture
balanced by the light
against the blue
whispers long forgiven
pierce my fragile slumber
nights I dream of smoke
and reach for you
