somewhere storming

hope was born on a windy day
at two p.m.
your sudden smile
illuminated the fog
of my ailing soul
heartache was an ever darkening bruise
that starlight could never heal…
your words still try to work miracles
but you disappear as often
as moonlight on a stormy night
and through the ebb and tide of my need
you ride the waves of my salvation
like a pirate
caught between lust for rich horizons
and a part-time philosopher
in love with ideals

. . .

remembered (yes I do) ~

could it be

remembered now
as time when time was lost
voices boomed from somewhere
I don’t know
plans were changed and schedules made
for consequence uncertain
I’d meant to stand
and watch your essence fade
but instead – it was the universe
willed another way –
and knew it then
was more than I could do
moments staring blankly
at the movement made by hands
tides were turning backwards
to the moon
eternal tears – immortal place
dreams were letting go
and wished I (more than once)
for one more life
for holding near (holding on)
pages to the wind
words I still can taste
delight my tongue
with passing unexpected
changed by more than birth
forever penned a moment
to my soul

. . .

a life of keeping ~

beyondtime

in a little while
time will die
and all that was
remembered still
as the sweetest song
on a perfect night
when time remained
to steal us

in a little while
breath will come
as a mighty wind
upon the plains
that was the earth
that is our bones
~ into a life
of keeping

in a little while
love will wake
beyond this dream of living
and time will want
for another way
to hear our song
the same

in a little while
silence will fall
to clear the heart
of whispers
where names and places
rest unclaimed
~ as heaven
above the cedars

blossoming

for truth
I’ve born
the lovers plea ~
and wrapped
my words in tears
let loose
a veil of verses
to fill each brief
refrain

what past
we’re want
to wander –
lest memory concede
a place within
the heart
of truth –
a place where love
remains

leftofme

how often now
my soul is fed
with crumbs of yesterday
of memories
I’ve yet to give
away

o precious song
of silent lips
when whispered –
come to me
could e’er the wind
abide
such mystery

a solitude
of aging sands –
by graces undenied
tis not for me the silver
grew –
another youth
to hide

years replayed
and laid again –
o’er those I dare not keep
dreams –
beyond the countenance
of sleep

within the hall
where time is charged
by one still yet
to know –
love becomes a river
to wash upon
my soul

. . .

resolved to finding ~

mystery

I’ve heard tell
of skies so blue –
swallows would be
drowning
where clouds for fear of flight –
would roll away
I’ve heard of tears –
ten thousand more
than e’er the heart could suffer –
sorrows tucked
between the dusk
and day

I’ve heard of truths –
the ancient kind
would pull the soul asunder
and lies
would ne’er to think
of causing pain
I’ve heard
of roads beyond the light
paths still left to wander –
a place resolved
to finding –
our way
to love again

. . .

sunday find me

in my dream
I sit in a coffee shop
composing haiku –
counting syllables
on caramel fingers
a reactionary in flip-flops
aging white linens
and faded parasols
tourists burning red –
alive in dime store
novels

sunlight see saws
across muddled
pink rimmed skies
whispers fill the street
I order another cappucine
swirling with foam regalia
– my collected sea of
memory

in my dream I am
a mere student of words
stealing minutes
from your sunset
before the moon smiles
o’er nights well remembered
from light years ago
when the stars
were our children

. . .

as a psalm ~

dreamy

questions
leave me breathless
e’en when the silence falls
when years are passed
unwillingly to night –
tis there
the petals
once reserved
are opened by a sigh

essence unrelenting
as a psalm

remember me
as melody –
verses into one
tracing notes
lilac
shades of stone

breathe to me
as answers come
by names another wore
let me sit
while silently
they dream

. . .

Author’s Note: There are nights when I pull awake with a start, returning from another place – not so far. In the darkness, tears pool as I search frantically for a place to write.

these hands

where
beginning
just this now
from roots forgotten fell
to make of weeds
a bushel more
than e’er my lips
could tell
from whispers
once a secret kept
awake most all night long
words I scarce remember
yet my heart
has made to song
where paper fails
shelves
where none are felt
a vault is lined
with buttercups
and lace
linen was my color
more lavender than blue
verse infused
to fill my blood
with you

hold

I painted my walls
a deep shade of night
floors –
the essence of sun
I slipped through the shadows
and ran through the weeds
out past the places
I remembered
undone

every dream
unpretending
to be as before –
times I swore not to sleep
anymore
lest truth
find me drifting
in realms beyond this
moored to forever
– cursed by a kiss

another one day
tis my fate to recall
how my tears
just beginning –
were destined to fall
as rain
to the flowers
bloomed in my stead –
as rivers of somewhere
roll ‘neath
my bed
