silence

for moments
I have traveled –
lost my way
sometimes –
and swam in silver depths
beyond the pond

wishes of reflection
as streamers curled the night
– pardon me
the way they spelled
your name

open arms
and we began
somewhere east of eden
a blanket made
of flannel – crossed
with pale

once or more
the lying left
in curses by the fence
as tresses braided wheat
into a smile

hand me downs
and where I’ll be
should e’er the taking
bring you –
home another way
forgotten truce

maps betrayed
for tracing –
down every rural road
– spare the wheel
and let your soul
decide

mondays

of mondays
I’ve had many
some gone before
I woke –
took the paper
left the puzzle worked

burnt my favored candle
and cursed the grain of wood
became the bed –
one night
became my all

I’d never leave
no sense pretending
I would sell
these ragged sheets

who are you
and where’s the magic now

silence
makes me want to cry
laughter makes me horse
for helpless I am moved
to keep it all –

a dozen eggs
and one pound more of bacon
I won’t eat

twelve across
is not the word intended –
but everything
I love
has made me fit

in the beginning ~

destinies

remembered here
the ways I came –
and where (for you)
I waited
stood the night
until the morning bled
blush against the darkness –
swirled within my glass
burning shade of passion
rolling crest

warned of times
the tides were low
as ripples washed in circle
while here below
a league of silver fins
made their way to places cooled
with pardon (to deliver)
– just before the final
(first) amen

fathers watch
from storied boughs –
mosses weighing heavy
foretold with gentle swell
of love’s release
glowing ponds of sacred light
dried to ancient stones
– as life creating
(rivers to the sea)

quietly
the world awakes –
sleepy eyed to wonder
returning to the blanket
(where we lay)
our burdens by –
beneath a sky of lullabying cedar
– (loved) as one by one
the stars
we named

somewhere I do

honeysuckle ribbons
are wrapped
as time with string
and squeezed against a plank
of aching red
dusted hallelujahs
are buried by the post
and rusted
to the latch
just like they said

we’d never make the papers
never knew our time
would end –
struggled with the map
unspoken shame –
as day old letters
fade into the memory of a box
– and photographs
don’t hold me
quite the same

a kiss
the taste as summer
a touch the same as true
gentle eyes
were watching me –
as I was watching you
like who would know
the stories
weren’t for telling
where we’d be –
or where we started over
might be here –
you came for me

as roads to trace
from east to west –
were moved as north I took
a ticket in my pocket
found me there
let me know
if e’er the stars
are moved from where
I loved –
as honeysuckle moments
are pulling
at my hair

I knew it well ~

morrison 2011

was a time
before illusion –
a time to wonder why
– tho maybe
I imagined
every whispered
lullaby

a bliss –
the same as breathing –
of the same sweet air as I
is held
within the silence
– within the penance
of a sigh

tis all the same
I see that now –
but what of dreams will know
when death is come
my hand to still –
was faith
for loving so

this tepid trust
these lukewarm tears –
might distance
mine erase
as echoes of forever
draw me nearer
to this place

where once I knew
and once I lived –
a house just down the hill
is tortured
by the turning back
– a lifetime
waiting still

what prophet gleans
the past resolved
as moments we allow
would suffer time
as wondering –
where love remains
somehow

for one more time
restored to touch –
one kiss when life is passed
one heaven here –
I knew it well –
shall grieve my soul
at last

. . .

Been gone awhile,
when fate was come –
tho wasn’t much
for turning home.suddenly

Dashed every (starless) dream
to the jagged edge of longing,
spent more than most.
Was love
took everything.

How did you find me –
with sense
I’ve long forgotten.
A name restored from silence,
rolls as thunder
down the pines.

Was there alone,
save for time (my one companion).
And put away my pages,
lest my sin some stranger find.

Life was waiting
his comfort now to come,
and counted me as blessings –
rocked to sleep,
(our love) awake in dreams.
Back against the morning,
eyes on the horizon –
no thunderbird to guide me,
nor evermore
to save.

Weeds and cocklebur –
a parakeet’s abandon,
grew between the slats
gone to seed (so long ago).
Sorrows met with joy –
both gathered there together.
Am I different
than remembered –
every story (still) I know.

Told when harvest moons
(are made much colder)
taken hold some other place
(another night so dear).
Some promise made (to might have been)
rouses me from slumber.
A roof that needs replacing –
keeps me ever (wanting, here).

Your kiss to steal –
your welcome home.
Were you to dream of me,
willed me back
(always I feel) the same.

Seven lives
and sixteen rivers –
forsaking every pleasure,
forgetting every loss
(and who’s to blame).

As seasons passed
between (the times) to hold –
Was our
forever moment –
never lessened (never old).

rural road

of the ways
I’ve come
submitting
to the wonder that is life
swept from ‘neath the bed
from ‘round the lights
of miracles
to grace revealed
the place I know again
of worlds within
the falling
(let me fall)

recalled anew
by morning –
the brokenness of proof
as spilled along the mantle
to the floor –
yellow birds are whispering
just beyond the break
forgiven now the night
for letting go

. . .

another rise ~

beginnings

reach into
my waking –
where pages have been stuck
a sleeve of petals
held between my rhyme
guarded as the golden gilt
notes of scribbled
fame –
proof you were
another time I knew

verses
of pretention
seasons folded now –
are stored on shelves
I hardly reach
for more
tho once I thought
to understand
the leaving as you do
longing left
to pages
I can’t lose

hearts were free
to gather these –
graces of permission
time was ne’er to blame
for where we lingered
here a bit
save to flight
the dream of dreams –
another rise to set
burned me into orange
– lay me back
in ruby red

. . .

white orchids ~

mercies

faded white
the promises
I swore to never lose –
though sometimes
I can’t move
within my skin
backward through the
coming back –
onward to the place
where standing now
is standing still
in time

april seems
a world away –
and yet another morning
is pushed against the feelings
I’ve almost
but not forgotten
and eyes
to scan the edges
of a world so few have known
orchids bloom
in shadows
where the darkness
goes to dream

. . .

kisses more ~

wanderings

wait for me
much longer –
than now the story is
when life became
much harder to resist
ten thousand games
another name
decided from the start
when I was queen
and you –
the king of hearts

built our dreams
from make believe –
one telling at a time
feathers bent to walls
and kisses more
than window
and wysteria –
gates of broken down
fit together passions
for a floor

patched a piece
of weathering –
leaned against the sky
climbed me up
the ladder of your lust –
wondered then
of what would hold
and where the rain
would pool

we’d build a
kitchen there
in shades of blue

jelly jars
of autumn light –
crowns we might have worn
asleep with
purple marbles
in our hands –
trusted for another time
to find the future come

parting now the stars
we knew
by name
