sundayme

when birth became
another time
a parting from the whole –
slant as I from dying
with fissures
to my soul
remembering
another time –
and words I gave for free
another life
was mine to love –
was once
another me

where verses carved
into my heart –
rhyme I scarcely used
love endured
the taking back
another day of you
pages fret forgotten lines
ink – I’m bound to grieve
for moments folded
into life –
truths I willed
believe

dreamed in verse

last night
I dreamed in verses
pages as my skin
and you
an ancient desk
upon the porch
looking out on summer
where every breath is slowed –
lines were caught
and whispered
to the dark

. . .

leave me to dreaming ~

save me your words
the rest of your story
breathe me
to breath
steady and slow
the taste
of a poem –
verses made mention
rhyme i’d forgotten
to tell you
i know
leave me
to dreaming
slipped between pages
inkstained impressions
passed into
life
grace me the ending
one more everafter
breath of your breath –
the psalm
of your soul

slowme

I shall make bread
of letters
fill my bowl with verse
loose my fears
on the poetry of saints
forsaken the lure
of hunger
but for rhyme
my stomach burns –
loud enough to dance by
in the dark

nearme

Now and then, I’m reminded of the unique wonder that is inherent to our living, loving, and journey through the number that becomes our days.

And while most travels are the same, others can vary based on age, our place in the world, and even the area where we are born to.

Just yesterday, I made the trip to see my mother, some thirty minutes down the road. Along the way, I passed a place I have overlooked hundreds of times, but this time was different. I noticed a cluster of trees and just as I passed, I realized there was a worn down path – a road (less traveled) that navigated between them, through them.

And just like that, I was at another place of my life. I was 18.

While I don’t for one minute think that ‘parking’ is unique to the south, I think that every place we find love is unique in some way – even if only unique to us (every kiss, the first, the sweetest ÷ the only).

In the south (or at least in my part of the South), we would never spend a Saturday night in the backseat of a car when the option of a blanket of clover beneath and stars above is so readily available.

could I tell you
the truth of this –
of secrets writ to skin
of nights
not left to injury or scar
the memory returning us
not so weary
not so far
to fields where clover blooms
beyond the stars

. . .

not too far ~

hereonearth

for lifetimes
unnoticed
you passed as the breeze
as the song of a sparrow
light through the trees
do you remember
another
tho none can compare
you swore in your leaving
to find me somewhere
with a name
not quite taken
in a place
not too far
from moments we tarried
making love
by the stars

blossoming

for truth
I’ve born
the lovers plea ~
and wrapped
my words in tears
let loose
a veil of verses
to fill each brief
refrain

what past
we’re want
to wander –
lest memory concede
a place within
the heart
of truth –
a place where love
remains

. . .

stilled ~

heaven
is never
as close as was then
warmth
to my cold
fingertips

somebody wrote
themselves into story
e’en now
I remember
the way –

the essence
of light
when stilled
by surrender

purpose made sweeter
by the giving
away

a shimmering
promise
of love yet
becoming

the same as was
morning –
found new
on the day

when I am old
speak to me often
tell me of wonders
once you were mine
of sunlight
and memory
of breath before waking
of wind from the
mountain
the song of
your soul
share of a story
ten thousand others
eternity turning
on words that
you know

. . .

words and constellations ~

tellmenow

this line
is one you crossed
that night
somewhere
as I lay sleeping
awoke within
the whisper of my name
ten thousand years
of someone told –
where once
I dreaming lived
speckled as the
moon
against your dark
poetry
to pull the heart
is life and death
surpassing
words and constellations
in silence
love remains
