there’s a moon
on the pasture
hoarded by willows
who told of another
to balance the blues
silvery shades
of pewter and diamond
ripples regarded
as glass looking through

tis a world
of unraveled
the seeds from the soil
the wish from the falling
of stars all around
poetry plucked
from pointy black fingers
briars embracing
the blossom of sounds

meticulous verse
at the heart of our musing
pushed from these hands
to the soft folded wing
enchanted by story
of journey releasing –
words without rhyme
ten thousand to sing

as bark sets the future
of cider to winters
patterns to pass
from light years to why
there was more to the water
than drink for the pasture
a mirrored confession of love
for the night

. . .

Of those who’ve come to know me, you know that I struggle with the words. While some come easy, rarely do I find words that can express the depths of gratitude I feel when someone gives to me from their heart. Most often, I tend to brush it off, which I shouldn’t do. For in brushing it away, I’ve left at least one with the feeling that I didn’t care. That is far from the truth.

I care perhaps more than most can imagine. I care to the darkest recesses of my heart, the wildest river from my soul. I have lost many a night’s sleep over misunderstandings and moments of rejection. I feel and I love, and I am way past the point in my life where I feel any need at all to apologize for either.

And so, with the wish to receive and to pass along the light that is love, I accept these nominations (one from Wendell and one from Mira) with profound humility and appreciation for that which I have been given through their presence.

Ligo Circle of Appreciation

First things first. My undying gratitude to my dear friend, Wendell Brown, for reminding me not only of the truth that is love, but for periodically reminding me of who I am and the gifts I am tasked with sharing. For the gift of his friendship and strength, I am indebted. Thank you for nominating me for this lovely award, Wendell.

The yearly Ligo celebration happens every summer solstice in Latvia. At this time we adorn our heads with Ligos of flowers, oak leaves, grasses and plants (which, is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO very like me). We join circles around bonfires and celebrate life, and our appreciation of each other.

Here’s how it works:
*Complete this sentence about blogging: “A great blog is…”
*Refer back to the blogger who invited you
*Invite 2 bloggers to join the Ligo Circle of Appreciation on a post

Moving on –

A great blog is one that moves us to think, to feel, to know what we didn’t know before. A great blog moves us to give unselfishly of our gifts.

With that in mind, I invite the following to join this circle of Ligo. The hardest part of acceptance is figuring out which way to turn in passing the torch.  But both of these writers offer me more than words – theirs is home in ways I find hard to put into word.

James – When I’m not sure of where to look, James always knows. His words point me the way in kindness and love, and in an understanding that it’s not always easy, but it’s always easy. Yes, I know and he knows. Visit James at – http://thewayhome.me/

Dee – It’s comforting to know there’s another much like yourself ~ someone who sees the same patterns in the leaves and feels love beyond the reach of normal wisdom. Dee personifies that which beauty aspires to be. Visit Dee at – http://liliessparrowsandgrass.com/

One Lovely Blog Award

Thanks to Mira Jay for passing this beautiful bouquet my way. Always, I see light in your words and peace in the gifts you share so freely. I know you and you know me……..for surely many roads have shared our name. Thank you, dear dear friend.

And since she and I are so much alike, I am taking queue from her and passing these nominees to your loving and capable hands, that you might find that which waits your heart to bloom.

Thank you again, Mira….. each day, I love you more.

as daylight creeps
where words concede
and I shall wait no longer ~
for thought to form
alliance with the page

grant for me
a moment true
when fingers gently folded
to still the pen
from breathing ~
tired verse

as one no more
than these to know
of hearts to ache
with sorrow ~
would be my final choice
to grant them peace

as echoes to the ages
vowels misplaced til then
and someone
not so lost
shall find me gone

replaced by verse
made different
without my thoughts to rest
denied the place
wings are lit
by word

vespers ~

as the morning
of vespers ~
a walk toward the lake
as a route neath the bridge
on your way

do you think of me
then ~
as your soul comes awake
and light spills
from heaven again

in the solace
of silence
the viligent verse ~
weaves into words
a reason to slow

misty blue skies
and I wandered this way
as near as the sunlight
to love

remembered of time
a dream such as this
of nights cursed by coffee
and miles

moved to a moment
of one standing still
do you hear ~
can you know
how I feel

anyway ~

of all I have known
so few as you are ~
with words
I can’t paint
you (the same)
as a snowflake
in sunlight ~
a warm winter breeze
of a poem you wrote me
one time

how you said
it was nothing ~
no more than a line
you’d found on your way
back to me

a thought
without logical place
to become ~
(don’t think it means more
than you meant it to be)
when given to voice
on my hand

a message of blue
in piecework design
told of place ~
I never had been
walking the day
in the afternoon sun
I was there ~
(did you know)
anyway

a kiss met with two
maybe three at one time
and I knew
(did you know)
what would come of my love
of a verse
strung to word ~
wasn’t much left to say
as hearts fell
to silence (wide open)

hand as by hand
choice of this choice ~
breath when the rest
came apart
(every time)
a willing retelling
the story of you ~
and I without answers
or longing
to rhyme

I swear ~

steady this drum
on the pulse of your mercies
and steal my last breath
from the breeze
strain to the sound
of poetry pleading
to moments all measured
by these

know me
to know me
closer to close
softer the name you recite
as learning to breathe
with somebody else
adrift in your essence
tonight

break from the empty
fill now the warmth
of sunlight to corners
long bare
throw off the covers
and run through the shadows
~ I’ll be your memory
I swear

save for indifference
the doings undone
and worry
for places to be
slow to the rhythm
of night birds returning
o’er oceans
remembered
as me

bound not to fret
o’er sorrows passed by
or bones where wings used to be
turned not by loss
to remember the gain
or the promise
of eternities

saved not to verse
or hurried by life
as was gifted
to days muddled thru
forgotten the lust
of a long ago wish
or stars pinned by dreams
to the blue

grieved not by touch
no longer the same
or visions of hope almost gone
a path through the woods
by home a new way –
remembrance
of time walked alone

cured not by longing
or stilled by regret
taking where arms never could
keep you much longer
in yesterday’s chains –
and garner your words
understood

deemed not
by prophecies
left for another
or stories retold of your youth
asking of consequence
come to decide
as somebody’s version
of truth

birthed to illusion
of mysteries freed –
as futures are mourning this loss
warmed not the comfort
of sleep yet to come
or whispers negated
by moss

Author’s Note: For much of my life, I’ve been awakened
by words, flooding from far off places. Quite often, the result
is something like this. I refer to these as Emily moments ~
and Emily words. I’m good with that, as long as it never requires
a change in hairstyle. 🙂

give me to more
than the flush of existence
a song held in place
by the sound of my voice
give me to more than stones
without mercy –
or plans for reliving
a once random choice

much more than words
or promise repeated
back and forth rhyme –
as a measure
of grace
burden and bruises
blisters and babies –
are more now than passing
of time into space

a name seldom spoken
as a thought
might have been –
and sworn to the memory
of love beyond life
a garden
of orchids
jasmine and curses –
as laughter to ring
in the dead still
of night

remembered
forgotten
made more by the journey
and moments no less –
for the ones without say –
where I’ll be missed
as my presence to linger
on paths still becoming
somewhere else –
a new day

much more than a spot
on an outdated map –
or a place without season
another to hold
more than a pocket
for keeping my compass –
or hands
once were holding
found their way
to my soul

settled in ~

for every time
I wandered here –
to make myself anew
when settled in
with not a care at all
turned to places felt the same –
so sure I’d find my other
balanced as an august
wing to rise

kept the pace
I’d meant to lose –
and walked the wrong side over
passed beneath a bough
of winter shade
remembering another time
we traveled this beginning
and crossed into a place
we couldn’t stay

promise held
as bittersweet
beneath the stubborn tongue
now and then as poison to resign
were other times
regarded truth
far more than understanding –
else lovers sit unnoticed
by the song

worry not for evidence
of ages I have lost –
tho suffered more
than e’er my verse could pay
as births entwined
tho for a while –
were hastened by surrender
to heal of aching hearts
beneath the pain

if e’er again
my journey pass –
as solace to the dreamer
or poems rest
with hands I used to know
give to prayer these passages –
of everafter coming
a long way back
to finding me –
along familiar roads

practiced ~

were there ever words
I’d surely find
when looking round this place –
and times when nothing
else would fit
my lines

troubadour and tailor
source of gentle need –
marked the place
where pen was met
with might

and practiced I
ten thousand times
with voice
and tears
as laughter
just what to say
if e’er I could again

know that you were
listening
or that with kindness found –
rhyme denied a reason
to become

the way to you
already now –
the path is worn by wanting
briars grown to snare
the place behind

I’ve wondered tho
how many lives –
before the vine would conquer
while close enough
I could touch
you still

tis not the way
of longing –
resolved to circumstance
I’d raise a cup
of cure –
and cut my curls

spend the night
retrieving –
as syllables to slant
linen lined
and not a one so blue

weighted in the simple
thought –
that something must be lacking
for letters run together
off the page

empty now the coffer
was saving me for more
another line –
as first you wrote
of me
