a future shore

departed
as the want for more
when seasons passed between
the shoreline
and the essence born of dreams
silence swirls
in shades of pale –
shadows skirt and scatter
were not for this
a promise
once we made

to come again
to know anew –
the power of surrender
as crushed to shells
along a distant strand
beauty hides
in early tides
flowing outward
ever –
to meet the sun
once lusted
by the light

how many seasons
have passed while I lay sleeping
dreaming of the sun

this time of sorrow
is more than tears – a river
to unremember

closerhome

surrender me
the coming home –
remembrance of another
who knew me well
would never tell –
or hurt for swords
intended

my ways along
the rural road –
run south – then east –
then skyward
where I shall rest
in arms of love –
my tattered soul
restored

sailing

my days
ten thousand windows
pressed against the sun
another time
forgotten now the way
where mornings burst
in red and shadows –
paper hyacinth
lavenders while sleeping
I returned –
to watch the world beginning
beneath an ancient dawn
where once before
you urged me dream
again

beyond the breath of time

already now
the twilight rests
against the threat of night
where dreams
I can’t recall
await my sleep
already there
I’m missing you
without regard for days

another dawn
beyond my will to keep

a name unspoken
in silence stills
to bring this aging heart
to tears
released the want
of wanting left –
to find of heaven
moments here

a place removed
unclaimed by grief
beyond the realm
of yesterdays
returning light
an endless sun –
where I am yours
to love
always

in a little while
time will die
and all that was
remembered still
as the sweetest song
on a perfect night
when time remained
to steal us

in a little while
breath will come
as a mighty wind
upon the plains
that was the earth
that is our bones
~ into a life
of keeping

in a little while
love will wake
beyond this dream of living
and time will want
for another way
to hear our song
the same

in a little while
silence will fall
to clear the heart
of whispers
where names and places
rest unclaimed
~ as heaven
above the cedars

stay

where today
in your wandering ways
have you noticed
the color
of light –
blue as a blossoming
glory arose
to stand in the path
beside your
highway
come as a message
written to love
pressed between pages
once you were here
leaning together
another became

seeds
before heaven
we bloomed

Most days, as I arrive home, I’m scanning the tree line, hoping to see one of three bunnies that live in my yard. They adore my abundance of clover.

The newest is just a baby. This morning, as I walked out before leaving the house, he emerged from beneath a pine, stretching as if I had disturbed his sleep. It’s the same tree where I saw him last night, as my headlights traced the edge of his ‘one of a kind’ bunny ears. Regardless of my day, I squeal with delight when I see him or one of the others.cloverlove

They remind me of a truth far deeper than ever I could write.

I am a child of nature. There’s no other place where I feel as whole, as blessed. There are places I know of that seem to be as close to heaven as possible. The air is clearer, the pace a bit slower, and even babies stop their crying.

Every breath is one of divine intention, manifestation of a loving God.

I believe the hardest commandment to keep is the last – Thou shall not covet. I feel the need to confess every time I visit Millie’s port. I’m in total envy of her place in North Carolina. I imagine the cool dirt path beneath my toes, the soft shush of wind pushing bough against limb.

There’s a similar spot not far from me, where I cannot pass without stopping, sloughing off my shoes, and wading into waters surely as clear and cool as they were thousands of years ago.

It is my refuge, my recharger. It is home regardless of where I’m going or how long I’ve been gone.

it is here that I
understand
what was surely the
lesson
set deep in my bones
a voice
I remember
from a far distant place

was to gather me
home
a wanting so right
I could lay
side by side
with the stars
tracing back the journey
the ways we had come
returning of souls
unto one

creator of all
calls my beginning
none
no other the same
as the fate
of a sparrow
a silent recall
to the heart
we were sharing
another
one day

a lighted
cathedral
of cedar and spring
windows
propped up
by the night

here I am nothing
everything true
a melding of shadow
endeared to the light
memory given to name

beloved of heaven
writer of wings
breath I have tasted
as mine
is known in this
stillness
where I am begun
from a song
once the robins
were singing
so sweet

beyond the pines

roll me down
against the stones
float my soul
to heaven
turn my eyes
to stary skies
most have never seen

I’ve heard a few
were painted
to ancient chapel walls
and wondered I
of fools
to never know

a blacker veil
wraps the edge
of city lights for reaching
diamond fields
unnoticed by the sun

fireflies
forgotten
by a wish that fell
one summer –
chasing dreams of magic
– lightning
to the ground
