because I love you……….
I will remind you
of the ways I have held you
and nights
I spoke your name
a gift from God
your beauty –
spirit flame
beckoned as a nightbird
black against the sky
given life
– was breath
before you knew
forgiveness
found a way to be
the story starting now
when all seemed lost
He offered life
to you
asking not
the ways we came
or why the door ajar
of pieces scattered
broken (let me go)
but only this
the answer be
that we as love must trust
words that once
were written
to our soul
Author’s Note: This was written for my nephew – my light, my inspiration,
my soulmate – because I can – because I do.

of graces
I am grateful
blessings
overflowed
to fill the page
to fill my years
below
of sorrows
not so many
much more their joy
to find
when name by name
I call to them
divine
lowly
my transgressions
my forgiveness
bartered none
for paths
already grieving
every one
summer lace
and winter sighs
shall hold of me
the light
of graces
I am grateful
for this night

somewhere
not so far
they know
of times before
my time –
of songs I couldn’t sing
they sang me well
promised
by the coming back
for one more life
more love –
words were left
with only me
to tell
of faraway
and where I’ll be
to one day
want again –
renewed within the
memory of soul
longing
curses now the pen
with visions
of the dawn
dream me back
the ways
of letting go

scatter me
these telltale leaves
beyond the wish of spring
beyond the fate
where winter
hides his young
memorized
my mysteries –
line by tender line
read me back
to places
I’m become
the way you knew
of worlds before
skies are pearling grey
evermore to dream
of journeys crossed
echoes swim
on silver wings
high above this prize
heaven falls
and worries not
our loss

left me here
the signs of age –
a road already known
the ways
of some
an ancient storm
retold
and I
for one
could never guess
the wisdom
did he carry
would lift us up
some heaven
here
below
scattered ‘bout
these weary days
this plea
for something more
than e’er a place
of rhyme
could keep us fed
learned into
this passion
wherein your name
is writ –
folded fast
each page
upon my bed
sapphire tears
are hiden
by a questioning of light
of fear absolved
by love
I couldn’t say
of where I’d be
when morning found
me watching
for a sign
when worlds beyond
our knowing –
fall away

a place
beyond the golden shade
where once
my love was come
sprouted every april
with the sun
garnered me
a letting go
I never could be sure
of memories
left somewhere
I don’t know
while dreaming there
with all the rest
names I dare not say
are folded
soft to verses –
heaven tucked away
in cedar shifts
with last year’s plans
someone else
I knew
would find this way
so different
for our passing
through
fated by the willing
of one
this heart to hold
a rhyme
for every reason
I’ve become
eternities are wasted
in the waning now
for more –
than this
of us
a memory of home

A solitude emptied
of all that was wanting ~
left us to warm
as graces
to sun.
A place of forgiving
the ways
we had wandered ~
when truth come to find us
the hurting undone.
Would time e’er erase
our seeking of wonder ~
how dear
every measure
of song from the soul.
A lifetime of willing
thoughts
were for touching ~
a heart reminiscing
on stories
untold.
Happiness sits
as dew
on the pasture
bloomed into places
my waking returns ~
A dream without slumber
the flight was so tender ~
would the sin of forgetting
my memory burn.
What sunrise is blushing
beyond this remembrance ~
would cling
to the places
love
still remains.
Light steals my cup
from yesterday’s waiting ~
the breath of forever
smells sweetly
of rain.

were you always
a face in the crowd
someday – a destiny true
a voice on the wind
reminds me again
the place
(I remember)
as you
was our moment
no more than a dream
a kiss at the gate —
(letting go)
we lingered that day
as time slipped away
to truths
we were destined
to know
was our purpose
a blessing (to touch)
faded – a photograph now
of strained black and white
conceded to light –
far more than this world
would allow
was your whisper
the song I would hear —
an echo of longing
out loud
is yesterday gone
(or still holding on)
awaiting
your face –
in a crowd
