Move me to pause
in the midst of these moments
when life goes unnoticed
(lace covered walls).
Move me to silence
lest words give me reason –
to turn from the wonder
was given us all.

Will I be awakened
as the last star is falling –
when east and west waves
together are rolled.
When the sun has burned through
a hole in forever –
the moon – only grieving
his place in my soul.

A sweeter refrain
than thought given motion
move me to witness
stir me to tears
~
Give of my graces
the charge of an angel
life beyond living –
where time disappears.

Back through the ages
a soft recollection –
of others we wandered
this way to reveal.
Move me as Mary
as Rachel and Hannah.
When love we remember –
move me to feel.

what is it that we do
to make ourselves of less
than words
than tears
we never dry
for sleepless nights
and children tucked
away in nothing better
than we would give
to those
so not like us
differences
I wonder
more than flesh and bone
and words
were never heard
(but echo still)
what language
bears the burden
of tomorrow
what selfless soul
will grieve for
innocence

in pages you remember
to define me as a rose ~
and another time a briar
to your hand –
oceans I was washed ashore
and somewhere there you were
a broken shell –
amazing you –
a man
and I lovely loner
(please come for me)
in beauty to be rescued
from the past –
would ever there be essence
the scent of me to wear
scars
where we were torn
and stitched together –
scars as I was known
apart of you (a part of you)
blossoms yet
wears me now
– to home

came the words
unwanted
for lives were not my own
and ears were pricked awake
by thunderstorms
lightning flashed
as dragonflies
were swept into the black
and somewhere
promise melted
to a sigh
with no one left to tell
just how the story started
of how it felt to know
the past was gone –
better now remembering
years forgiven years
jars of age old harvest
hands beneath the page
winter blows against
this house
and I am (soon) reminded
of lips that would not move
without my pen
awaiting now
another story starting
with ears to pry
yesterday to speak

am I to ever understand
the mysteries of love –
maps to trace
me backwards to your soul
amber light to shine along
the path before
beside –
walked I once the miles
to roll between
and counted every clover leaf
names for every tree
stone for stone
and step for step
the same

times forgotten
hardly seem to matter any more
or where the planets move
against my own
concern for more than this
this moment of the now –
the path is gone
but still I make my way
whenever twilight plays across
the way I leave tonight
I call into the darkness
do you hear

save for me the reasons
were waiting voice to say –
and I shall sing of lilies
where you fell

score the night with passages
line the woods
with wish –
carry me a box
returned to cedar by the creek
hands to hold
eternities before

now I lay me
down to dream again

I can’t be made
to be the one –
the one to make things better
Been working that
so long I can’t recall
a time before
of month old tears –
and nothing in my pocket
I wonder what it means
to see it all

to lives before
and I can’t do a thing
about those choices
– been nipping
at my heels
and I can’t pay
Unsure of my uncertainty
a balance to my breaking –
Gave my body to a preacher
just to take my sins
away

The land is hard
where weeds grow strong
and no one seems to notice –
got troubles of their own
they can’t see
Who am I to think
there must be
something here I’m missing –
the whole world thinks
I’m crazy – I must be

Though not the same
as anyone
much deeper than they bother –
how many times
been broken
just to have myself remade

Coming back
for taking back –
I search the sky for answers
Damn that yellow moon
so far from me –
spinning wheel
the wind to blow
orchards needing water
The creek’s been dry
for nigh on fifty years

Burn the barn
unlatch the screen
and throw away my apron –
don’t worry long
for stories I believe
There’s something here –
more than storms fortelling

Lord I need to feel
the arms of rain

where we were ~

more of me
is just this much
a season born of wasting
waves where once
the colors scattered
sweetly to the day
were crushed beneath
our summer slippers
waltzing past
the meadow’s green
touch so fleeting –
who remembers
where we were
when we flew away

with ribbons ~

spirits curse
to know the pain
beyond the silk of scars
no more these pangs
of innocence
of wishes raised to stars

a last request
for healing hands
would come as need to prayer
before the cross
(forgiven now)
when left our love
somewhere

as joy
restored from wandering
down this lonesome road (begin)
would cleave us to another
else we choose this way
again

to lace the night
with ribbons
else the poet wonder why
we dreamed
that we were angels lost
silver birds
against the sky

I know this song
the sound of leaves
whispers fill the forest
I close my eyes
and hear the evening tide
a melody remembered
is played again at twilight
once given to the trees
when love befell the dreamer
notes of ash and walnut
were floated out to sea
I wonder do they miss
the shore
another place they sing

places we’ve become ~

Whatever truth
I’ve come to know –
the promise (holding still)
though times before
I cried without remorse

forsaken then
the best of love
as pieces reconsidered
I’ve taken all
(I’ll take it one more time)
hope which is eternal
spends a many night with me
and hardly ever
tears without the smile

a ladder back
with room to share –
someday Sunday morning
across a page
sometimes (I see you there)
without the words
(forgiven)
the answers fell apart
and who was there
to tell us when to stop

were not for chance
the lover’s dance
spilled beyond the music
sit with me as daylight falls –
on places we’ve become

no need to grieve –
for leaving won’t be long

always now
the echoes ring –
as lanterns
frame the doorway
I won’t make room for sorrow
in my bed

for all the times
of holding on –
comes now another sunrise
forever waits the door
to let us in
