somewherenow

scatter me
these telltale leaves
beyond the wish of spring
beyond the fate
where winter
hides his young
memorized
my mysteries –
line by tender line
read me back
to places
I’m become

the way you knew
of worlds before
skies are pearling grey
evermore to dream
of journeys crossed
echoes swim
on silver wings
high above this prize
heaven falls
and worries not
our loss

lighternowanother time
when ashes fell
oceans blue
with splendor
left upon the shores
a wintergreen
messages
were never meant
this faraway to travel
promise rose
above
the smallest dream

graces come
and graces mine
within the still
of sorrow
are counted down
and back o’er ways
I came
further than
remembered me –
songs I used to wear
blossoms born
of longing –
sweeter
flame

destinies

gather not
to story
the wages
made of sin
forgiving fault
– were grace
to take us in

speak not ill
the passing
lest for stones
your journey stall
remembered love
was come
to save us all

each tender word
– a sacred touch
of truths
we cannot see
alight the path
of darkness
our chosen destiny

a bitter charge
delayed us once –
mending now the whole
scars
the same as falling stars
aligning heart
and soul

softlynow

within the breath
of now begins
another page I write
with only this
– a memory
of flight

flashing lights
betray the dark
and once again
I follow
the coming back
where I shall find you new

swept along
on lullabies –
sing me home
another
time we passed
of moments –
o so few

prayers awake
as secrets take
the heed
of my confession
to speak aloud
the poetry of trust

gather me
carry me –
will me now
to hurry
– my soul is freed
to wear the name
of love

nearenough

what worlds
 we wandered years away
with nothing come
between
a star removed
of moments here –
as ancient ones
 to dream

of lives forgotten
plans undone –
by wishes laid aside
for destines
of fear –
a truth denied

what souls
await already –
with knowledge
of our will
they call us out –
and listen for us
still

on frigid nights
the air is charged
with stories from afar
a promise
of returning –
where we are

choosing yet
some other time –
another way we came
to know
before our knowing –
ten thousand
stars
by name

with gratitude
my soul becomes
remembrance of a name –
the taking in
til I am filled –
a place
of silent
fame

to resurrect
these mysteries –
much more than I can say
a truth denied
the words as yet
shall ring
some other day

. . .

memories
are sewn to me
petals on my sleeve
a song –
a music
sweeter than the night
proof when morning finds me
drifting back
from dreams –
nestled in a sweet
embrace of light

comeagain names
already known
maple
rose
and sparrow –
called to us
reunion of the saints

TO THE DESCENDANTS
OF THE GREAT EUROPEAN TRIBES
by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
(with permission)

If you would look into the last room
of the starry night,
there are powers there with names:
Tannenbow, Valdar, Yaga, and others.
They are your ancestors,
they sneeze with all the waiting for you.

They want to give you sword-making,
show you hidden ore amongst earth’s gasses.
They, like you, are a dust of glitter and light.
The names, the names. . .
call them by name,
for they have gone shadowy
from lack of your remembering,
from lack of your love.

Your Deep Earth Drum still lives,
though more more faint now.
Down there they have a theater waiting,
one that is lit by storms;
it takes only a name to start it.

Some firesides, the good princes show up;
the blind one who steals earrings
during the night shows up;
the wise one who sings souls into Nod;
the long-chin who concocts sweets,
and herbs for healing,
who lays huts of boughs for grieving,
and extracts her cost.

The one who bleeds gold,
breathes there.
The one who releases the bright,
burning fire arrow, lives there.
They are all there.
Your ancestors live!

Quick! the names,
the names. . .
call them by name. . .
before they lose all water
and die.

~*~

The charge of the storyteller is more than one of weaving,
reciting, entertaining.  It is a remembering of the start and a perception
of no ending.  It is the past brought forward into the now,
where it is made sense by those who have waited to be a part.

There is truth deeper than your bones, where the story
lives.  There, the proof of other dreams is feeding your own.

sweeterstill

were destiny
a way become
of roads we knew before
of souls remembered
just the same –
a stranger
at the door

recalled how warm
 our midday sun
burned above the plain
sworn unto another time
 some comfort
to remain

the same as then
how sweet returned
the captive
from the dream
as words to spread
 a starlit night
unseen

babies
left their crying
another faith to press
backward
to the lover

unconfessed

the need for more
as ache deserved
shall one day reach an end
as sun beyond the setting
we begin

. . .

love I keep ~

surrenderme

beneath the pull
of shade
to shape
of cedar into pine
forever rests
within the love I keep
fretting not eternities
wasting not a sin
drifting on the current
of my sleep

secrets wear
the seeker down –
whispers tell the most
verses bind my soul
to worlds unknown
sworn to tears
the snow returns
cool beneath my feet
worried not
  to memory
of stone

slow the wake
of ancient wills
to roll on velvet banks

and there I lie
with want
another start
to save me from
this certainty
wilderness of home
swarmed into the forest

of my heart
