get me back
before the morning
falls unnoticed to the lawn
e’er these dreams
resolve to keep me
to the places I’ve become

get me back
before the sunrise
set my feet on firmer ground
leave your essence
to remind me
of another solace found

get me back
tho I grow weary –
not for sleep my body aches
not for slumber
I’ve been missing –
would my senses lie awake

get me back
get me something
more than all
one moment holds –
every image made of heaven
stretched to fit
as love unfolds

get me back
I’ll be waiting
in the places you abide –
beyond the reaches
of forever
I’ll be waiting
with the night

get me back
before the leaving –
lest the daylight find me gone
counting everafter hours
come to sleep
upon the lawn

anchored by threads
of faraway seasons
veils pulled aside to reveal
the divine –
provision of poetry
and bright wooly winters
November new better
the passing of time

held by the truth
and counted as curses –
returned from the care
of hands folded two
love has but memory
of one to the other –
pictures of living
with love shining through

spare me the stories
of futures negated
by something that somebody told
mornings grown harsh
by the threat of another
let not this measure
make waste of our soul

two were remembered
by places uneven
and signs
kept by moments unseen
seasons revealing
the pages already
were torn from our keeping
as now we conceive

where were we started
when looking for answers
a question
of living – a coming back home
as a mist on the orchard
a frozen green apple
made good the foretelling
of winters to come

where did we dream
what the occasion
would lead us so far
from the light we had been
telling of times
we spoke without speaking
and ran without knowing
we’d find us again

threadbare ~

ten thousand years
are more or less –
the same as once before
I was
and you by some
another name –
forgotten to my bliss

burning sands
and chilly winds –
words the mayfly buries
for weeks alone
with no one home –
she waits to be
a bride

living long
in threadbare robes –
paths grown cold with longing
was come to share
a moment there
the start
of every end

knew you when
and loved again
was come –
as I was going
long nights warmed by firelight
morning to us all

rings and rows
of marigolds –
polished river pebbles
moonlight just as blue
as once we were

fall into
this willing you
of all I’ve come to follow
as whispers fell of
snowflakes into spring

wrap the winter
’round me now –
taste the name I’ve carried
near within your vest
my sweetest bloom –

still the heart
that beats the same
ten thousand years apart
tell me how you found
your way –
across an ancient moon
…

pieces everywhere ~

take my rings
and buy a sunset
souvenirs of yesterday
sell the bed –
to give me heaven
flannel ships to sail away

brighter stars
beyond the ceiling
told me once
their every name –
take the silks
but the spare the story
softer now – the dying flame

promise sweet
as monday morning
turn the mattress –
write it down
where we’ll be
when next remembered –
love we made
of moments now

trade my locks
for winter roosters –
sell the skates
from down the hall
leave the door
a bit more open
lest I miss you after all

of consequence
and one time leaving
there the empty shelves
are bared
sunlight stills
the morning after –
kept in pieces everywhere

thought you knew
I’d wait another
lifetimes more without the proof
two steps backward
into shadows –
spare the love
but take the truth
…

grounded ~

forgive me now
this coming back
to find an understanding
of where I stood
e’en now the ground is warm
the barn is leaning further
than I thought it would in May
but now ~ so clearly now
I see the moon

forgotten yet
the pain to leave
a tear-stained sunday morning
roads to walk
alone and back again
just beyond the church bells
ring ~
vows not worth the sermon
echoing of words
were tasted new

take me now
before the first of
winter’s velvet stillness
and nights
when still I burn
with thoughts of you
cellar doors
and broken steps ~
thirteen miles to nowhere
lines to run both ways
are never true

say it ~
say it softly
speak my name
aloud
murmur in the dark
so I might hear
and know of times uncertain
as rain between the stars ~
aware of other times
you held me near

whisper as another
time has passed into
everafter promised me a place
I always knew
would come again
a house without a door ~
windows facing south
to hide the barn

one ~

how deeply were roots
weaved into granite ~
briar or bruise
(beyond them to care)
cleaved to their kin
as lovers ill-fated ~
unintended this soil to share

slept through the night
dreaming of water ~
as visions of truth brought the thirsty awake
cruel and cramped (extinctive survival)
sworn to each other ~
a living to make

but fell to the midst
a lovely companion
burst from a seed (unassumed)
gentle retort of rocky intention
when met with the blade ~
of destiny’s bloom

how proudly she sways
the daylight to beckon
a moment to shine on her face
blushing umbrella of infamous fare ~
is held ever sure
in the briar’s embrace

fearless their push
to the edge of forsaken
moved as the night to alter their view ~
of all that she is
would lose in becoming
companion to these
unfortunate few

see how she smiles
for those without blossom
drawn to their beauty
(as only she knows)
sharing the light
as one with the meadow ~
tho miles from its bosom
she grows

…

in the place of omission ~
stories unfold
by a change in my will
to remember
as forgotten the wonder
of promises made
when into this form
I was come

with ache to
discover ~
as truth unto blood
and love (more than heart)
claims my soul
to remain as a moment
passed us into ~
as close now the wind
are the secrets
we know

rekindled
as something
moves me to say
when given of words
soon to pass
solace of angels
comforts to some
shall fill me
to heal me ~
strength I become

is forever a time
for questions undone ~
of ashes blown over
the best of these lines
poems held
to a place
without voice ~
as silence remembers
the last one
to rhyme

there are things I can’t say
to anyone yet
some admission of dying
one piece at a time ~
one crush of a breath
one season of death
and I can’t seem to call it
by name

the thief
and the bride
the willing young man
who stood in the drive
with arms open wide ~
reminders of daisies
white velvet sprays
and a spark to the eyes
said I’m doing okay

but I can’t seem to think
what I don’t want
to say ~
and there can’t be a place
for goodbyes here today

they’ll drive me to drink
and the river will flow
out beyond where I’m bound
to be going ~
I go

forgotten ~

of the truths
forgotten there ~
and words were never ours
when sought again
the need to understand

the mystery
of magnitude ~
the first
was last
to ever
and chapters fell
as flutters to the floor

a name or two
we trusted more
for keeping real our stories ~
when gave us all we’d need
for getting on

traded down the line
for love ~
spoke when none
would listen
and set the rights
of solitude to stone

red to grey
these lacey lines ~
trials and trails
and treasure
grace surrendered more
by shifting light

babies cry
while mothers pray
tomorrow will be better
when comes the son
another savior one

leave us not
with these to keep
show in us your presence ~
find us near
as prophecies revealed

in books our charge
foretelling ~
were not as pages sewn
but word becoming
more than word ~
when written
to the soul

….

of the sweet ~

how fragile now ~
this fleeting bliss
was passed
as once before
a kiss

as whispers gifted
words so clear ~
are ringing now
for all to hear

the glory come
from sweet amen ~
forgiveness undeserved
til then

when longing stays
the whole night through
will none forget
the things
you knew

for none can ease
the ache of gone ~
or pay for all
each righteous wrong

would e’er for love
a tear be spared
or moon concede ~
the night to share

don’t worry this
for moments passed ~
as smoke against
a looking glass

as stars made two
upon the sea ~
asleep in nets
of destiny

e’er page confess
this mortal song ~
shall wait my love
but not for long
