breaking again ~

asonetoone

ease me to going
carried once more –
as ash on the lips
of a far away wind
grieve
not the leaving
bear not the blame
or sit long the night
with my name

forgiven
the passage
of death into light
in breaking again
to living I came –
sworn to remember
the sorrows I’ve known
to ease one –
another we waited
this long

to be
as in being
a promise once made
to ease of the ache –
a salve
to the pain
to listen
(I listen)
I hear what you say
as I lie awake
crying
your tears

intention of flame ~

sweeterthis

let me
remember
the heart of revealing
wrapped in surrender
alive in your eyes
grant me
a moment
when all is forsaken –
but the smell of your skin
the song of your sigh

give me
forever –
no more for this passing
of evermore come
the intention of flame
prayers for delay
the morning forgotten
would silence give room
the sound
of my name

show me
to know you
the same as was then –
another we lingered
tho lifetimes ago
fill me
with storybook tales
of tomorrow –
trade for my breathing
your own –
nice and slow

let me
grant me
fill me for keeping
something this sweet –
for another shall end
life before living
leave me to wonder
give me
receive me –
take me again

grounded

with dusk falling
words will not cross my lips
though you tempt my poet’s heart
its gentle beating is content
warm and dreary
as smiles
take silence to new planes

I am lost
melting with raindrops
fingers entwined with yours
making a parachute in case
a gust of wind
tempts our mortality
and speeds us
towards our dreams

we visit thunderheads
and watch the birth
of lightning fantasy
silent white wisps
through the electric fog
shooting us back to the flash
of our love

where
just for one moment
we allow the rest of the world
the joy of whispering
about our secret stars

the stained glass
works of art
garner little sunshine
the marble inside
is dust-dulled

the faithful arrive only
for special ceremonies
in the meantime
there is no money to pay
the janitor’s insurance

fees should he topple
from the ladder twenty feet high
attempting to clean windows
I – like many

worship in distant words
a faraway ritual of my concocting
the private practice of prayer
only moves me —
its physical beauty
does not teach patience

nor how to leap
into the arms of a faith
that tomorrow will
indeed be brighter
because I fold my hands

mouthing alleluia
in time with ancient sacred hymns
that yet touch
a secret place in my soul

proofstillcomes

in the rush
of a northern atlantic come home
across endless lives to embark
listen me over
start me anew
as wings beating life
from the dark

store me to winter
rouse me to spring –
sit me to rock
where the night doesn’t go
read me to poems
I’ve forgotten their taste –
somewhere I’m waiting –
still me to know

soften my fall
with the strength of your arms
glistening tears
of surrender betrayed
fix in my soul
every memory of you
waiting to fly me
away

break me ~

together

break me the habit
of looking back over
so sure you have wandered behind
kept as the memory
here my becoming
was destiny waited
this meaning to find

as pooled to this ink
witnessed to stain
shifted in place
by bliss undeserved
rhyme where was never
meant to be word
life never hindered
by verse

in places made easy
as a kiss
were a sigh
remembers another
line became line
brushed from the corners
in sacred relief
– in words undecided
I touch you
sometimes

break me of leaving
write me the longer
as given to passion –
the force of your soul
I promise
I won’t say a thing
of forever –
holding as one
each sweet letting go

waiting this too long ~

remembered

were the flowers blooming
yellow –
last night while in my dreams
I stood beneath
a cross
and watched it rain
I remember someone saying
we’d never be the same

cried but I’m not sure
I felt a thing

of taking
I’m not ready
to decide my journey done
hearts to touch
and winds I haven’t seen
blown as north
above the pines
to split my world apart

the universe
remembers me
the same

lying down
or standing up –
waiting this too long
the dream is worn
to pieces –
by my night

. . .

no more than this ~

99226eff4ef48d208572f33669d3cc3b-d4c760ufor more than this
a dare to wish
and cares to fall unnoticed
gathered us to secret
by the night
moments of forever
so few I can recall –
are learning me
returning me
to worlds
you hold me tight

no more than this
a wish come true
as twilight passes tender
witness to another
this we shared
midnight pried as shadows grew
pulled the deep around
as dreams to catch –
when stars were
everywhere

for your taking ~

lastyouknew

forsaken the fence
the twice broken steps
– eyes peeking up from beneath
memory loosed
by the passing of time
clothesline
and thimbles –
blessings bequeathed

by a hand
taking hold
a back nearly bent
by gardens run over by weed
nights held to secret
as the bible brought down
– forgiven to wander
as verses decreed

I’ll know
will you know me –
as was then I’ve become
for your taking –
how far from here gone
will grace foreshadow
where whispers remain
or roads be reminded
another way
home

the last I was passing
some years
almost now –
forgiven of burdens
some stranger took in
held me for keeping
I barely recall –
tho you knew
of my wander
to find you again

as a place
in the woods
once we slept
with the stars
and made of their fortunes
a story of grace
paths rarely journeyed –
you gave every one
as truth coming down –
heaven displaced

by the hone
of my beating
were there more – yet the same
as names given honor
in still silent prayer
fueled by a memory
of old crooked boards
– might I wake
in my slumber
to follow you there
