some things
not meant for keeping –
not meant for talking
through the night
don’t waste my time
with dreams
nobody dreams
or tell me of a someday
we might meet –
we might not
find the way as willing
as we are

what truth is mine
I’ve wondered
a time or two
no less
memorizing lines
from another place in time
where I was mortified
of loving
held in place
by life
staring out the window
as the world slipped by –
gathered into keeping
for another
bye and bye

sweet
the quietude becoming
ashes blown
now blue
the moon
recalled to breath
another summer
a long cold porch
leaving soon
the memory
of goodbye

for every tear
some blessing still
comfort in the dark
memories
too light
for weigh me down
names not soon forgotten
taste the same
upon my tongue
never less than once
I was
before the day you came
the heart of me
resounding
(just as sweet – the same)
contrary yes –
tho made the more
for ways in which I go…
the best of love
becoming part
of all the girl
you know

I know this path
familiar
unfamiliar
as the river
that scores my hand
the knowing prophesy
of life
and all that love
imagines us
into being
I know these blossoms
they are friends of mine
names I’ve misplaced
times
that left me wanting
empty for a drink
of remember
I know this way
as once I lingered
somewhere else
another me
was here the same
tho not made wise
by the memory
of love
we carried

I have many –
read before and pushed
a fair too much
bent my heart
to double –
more than time
to grieve
the anguish of temptation
mixed with disbelief

make me a home
at the heart of your longing
near to the place
muscle meets bone
share me a haven
of ten thousand windows
light pouring rivers of crimson and gold
make this an always
born of all others –
lifetimes of nothing but loving you so
make me your memory
a light to the shadow
as dawn through the cedars –
all that you know

How many times
The wanderer
Is met with angry skies
And nowhere
Quite the same
To lay me down
With words
A touch mistaken
A long way back
To find
The road is gone
The brightest star
Alone
Beneath this page
For turning
Numbers
Nameless fate
Fortunes raised
To hide
The deepest scar
Proof that I am healing
Evidence of love
Roads I carry still
Beneath my skin

what’s your hurry
getting nowhere
I can’t say it matters much
but I sure
wish
you’d ease your leaving
stick around
for one more touch
baby
I’m already missing
another chance for staying on
tho I’ll be safe
inside your crazy –
when nights are dark
years
too long
stick around
I’ll make you love me
tell your fortune nice and slow –
trade a dream
for one more morning
stick around
baby please
don’t go

love betrays
the distance –
fortunes writ in blue
blood remembers now
the will returned
warmth remained within
as once the two
were found –
touch the same
as fire unto flame
as breath
into the breathing
tears were sorrow flowed
laughter rings
