surrenderme

beneath the pull
of shade
to shape
of cedar into pine
forever rests
within the love I keep
fretting not eternities
wasting not a sin
drifting on the current
of my sleep

secrets wear
the seeker down –
whispers tell the most
verses bind my soul
to worlds unknown
sworn to tears
the snow returns
cool beneath my feet
worried not
  to memory
of stone

slow the wake
of ancient wills
to roll on velvet banks

and there I lie
with want
another start
to save me from
this certainty
wilderness of home
swarmed into the forest

of my heart

. . .

fringes

living sits the morning long
on fringes of the night
swelled against the aging
silver frawns
how it is I noticed
how it is I stayed
here as your
imaginary sun

truth becomes
the slightest breeze
ushered through the gate
whispers now
of summers
come and gone
reminding me
of almost then
I thought the leaving lost
the way returning here
to not yet known

yellow takes the place
of blue –
purple grieves
the green
a path into the wordless
world beyond
feels the same as some I’ve dreamed
once we moved the same
fit against the going
becoming light
as one

. . .

sworn to easy ~

lacesgraces

were becoming
sworn to easy
leaves began this way
as snow
upon my favorite
summer day

as silence
come to pleading –
lonely for a sigh
as red and yellow
folded
lullabies

held the night
with wishes –
sometimes yet i feel
the light is all
and nothing left
is real

made of me
forever
lest i drift
as one – the clouds
or sail beyond
the sunset
i am now

. . .

but for your name ~

silvermorning

when all I have
is thunder
from another day
not far –
lightening ripped
the curtains from my room
a moment come –
reminding me
of silver ladle skies
a bit of you
tho more – I loved
the moon

of jezebel
and jasmine –
something left me blind
before we spoke
the plan was writ to be
as light
into my windows
burdens robbed of spring
winter slept
in sheets of mystery

verses
chapter –
circumstance
weavers climb and wait
a paradise
where all we know remains
tied up now in story
suns have washed away –
everything
is gone
but for your name

worry not
the taking
leave of all we shared
the world is wild
with secrets
unconfessed
endless as the meadow
became of jupiter
returning me
– a sparrow
to your nest

. . .

into this one

yesterday
the sunlight tasted
pepper cantaloupe
tho last night left me not
a drop of wine
grieving for a poem wrote
a month ago last Tuesday
– thought you here
but now I feel
you’re gone

the way of
summer shadows –
straight back ladder chairs
black and white
photographs of then
cool beneath my memory
touch to pause
the same

are pasted to a page
I never turned

. . .

diamonds ~

rising

thought an end
to all our sorrows
as we gathered
round the flame
no ache could
ever fell us
quite the same

but here
the diamonds sparkle
skies are bright
with faithfulness
worry keeps
no count
of gratefulness

ashes blew
the night on Wednesday
as I looked up to the stars
and wondered
just how far from you
we are

. . .

rush ahead ~

knewmewhen

for a while
it seems
the rain has come –
to wash away the river
sands beyond the banks
on which we lay
another time
of leaving you –
how it was that way
to find us here
no longer now
the same

for ages
I was waiting –
and still you stayed afar
to wonder
did you know
how could you know
there were roads
no less forgotten
 somewhere weeds to grow
around this bed
blue within your smoke

one more lie
to listen –
save your favored time
rush ahead –
to claim this touch
divine
of worlds
I have no vision
beyond this one we make
dream me now
and I will stay
awake

. . .

remembered not to passing ~

longing

stories wait
the telling –
as solace binds the soul
light is rent in service
to our will
a secret rarely uttered
sleeps with us the night
longing for a time
to hold us still

became of this
our faith returned
when all the rest was lost –
delayed my breath
 to rob this verse
of rhyme
remembered not
to passing –
or universes crossed
 beholding to a promise
so divine

another day
some other life
a change to all we’ve known –
as carried I
your touch beneath
my sleeves
 a history rewritten
shall follow me the dawn –
 your heart
is beating somewhere
I can’t see

. . .

returning me this way ~

nottoofar

traces mark the ways
I came –
rings around the bark
flowers here
I planted yesterday
what passions I’ve surrendered –
haunt this mortal ground
– whispered wind
returning me
this way

letters writ
a lifetime more –
ageless as their love
to sweat against the verses
every line
fingers rubbed a shade
of blue –
seeking still to claim
remnants of a story
more than mine

last I heard
of not much left
was buried somewhere south
below the line of parting
would you care
for promise lost –
except for these
I’ve kept them every one

the road is gone
and dreams won’t take me
there

. . .

the song of knowing well ~

in places I remain

for a little while
beauty slept
– a shadow of my life
curled into a corner
cobweb dreams
woke before the coffee
stayed up all night long
talked and talked
for hours –
loved me
sight unseen

more than once
the paper came and told
with bitter news
the passing of a place
I’d loved before
filled my heart
with sadness –
however could it be
for every loss –
the wait
was weighted more

lullabies
were all I knew –
to rock and rock
and weep
counting loud each moment
until dawn
begging absolution –
rid my lone regret
of graces saved –
my need to linger on

painted black
and all the rest –
sunlight spills the same
to warm a single
feather
on my bed
beauty sleeps
while I rehearse
the song of knowing well
of times foretold
in moments
we were dead

Author’s Note – I feel compelled to explain a bit of these
words. Suffice to say, they are not sad nor are they intended
to be. And yet I know that we find what we find – and save (sometimes)
what we were never meant to carry.
