in this faraway moment
time is not erased
each grain of every wooden plank
calls out to and from centuries
of worship
the chipped paint
hymn to solitary prayer
over green fields
winds blow
with secrets common
to each faithful soul
forgotten
yet remembered each year
springtime cannot touch this sanctity
and winter dares not destroy its promise
summer has parched temple lips
leaving words fragile on autumn’s
altars of color
yet nothing
has dimmed such beauty
nor reasons
that made it live

how vast the realms
of I confess
a portion of my soul
was scattered
silver seeds
among the stars
wished upon by dreamers
awakened by the night
a canopy of stories –
with thread
the same as mars
smoke that stills
the canyons
before a raging storm
is captured to
the mirror I am holding
in my arms
eyes in shades
of abalone
words I know by heart
are whispered
by the sailor –
carried by the sea
backwards to a moment
unremembered
overheard by sparrows
sharing secrets
with the dark

– called from my sleep
by your voice
as love softly spoken
echoes somehow
to fill every shadow
– the long miles

as memory wills
truth unto silence
an ache
sworn to listen
lest slumber return
as darkness
to squander
the courage of morning –
a soul never trusted
to dream

could love you more

lips of morning blush

awakened

let me in

lest touch betray
this faultless fate –

alone
there sits
a distant star
was not recalled before
e’en now
my weathered soul
another grieves

tho not by name
repeated
as the sunday plate
is passed
with prayers
for courage
whispered in the dark

where miseries
are not for much
regrets
I’ve heard them say
forsaken
as the want for
might have been
as fate decided
verse
by tender verse

kingdoms
we have lost anew
are scratched into the wood
become as proof
for every little
one

I thought
I might have known you how
surely now again –
lay your head
to listen
on my heart
