purple gauze
and great big plans
incense burning hotter –
for ways into the past
we’d never come

sworn to meet
though who knows how
or when the time
for leaving
the universe
remembered us
this way

leaning long
outside the door
offering surrender
I fall again –
whene’er I say
your name

gypsy moth
is swimming
in echoes we’ve forgotten
light is balanced
soft against my sin

then as now
a moment here –
and how was I to ever
think another lost
was never gone

lie again
within my reach –
swirl in day old coffee
forever once
we waited –
another breath to come

as twilight clings
in morning sweat
of love’s remembrance found
longing mates
with memory
somewhere

visions cast
an awkward glance
to angels unaware –
are swinging from the branches
of my heart

last year’s hope
is this year’s ache
and some –
they stay forever
willed into existence
by the sweet embrace
of light

of mondays
I’ve had many
some gone before
I woke –
took the paper
left the puzzle worked

burnt my favored candle
and cursed the grain of wood
became the bed –
one night
became my all

I’d never leave
no sense pretending
I would sell
these ragged sheets

who are you
and where’s the magic now

silence
makes me want to cry
laughter makes me horse
for helpless I am moved
to keep it all –

a dozen eggs
and one pound more of bacon
I won’t eat

twelve across
is not the word intended –
but everything
I love
has made me fit

another such as this –
dates no longer written
to a memory
of verse

parting ways
within the space
of one more time
remembered –
where I was
when first I heard
your name

seems a while
tho sometimes more
than numbers to recounting
steps along the way
I might relearn

to letting go
where traces there are none
– graces held together
by my love

as silence
willing captive
to your sighs
bring into your breath
my willing flight

storied resurrection
of a long ago
reprieve
given words
where none
the heart shall leave

curs’ed moon
for chances took
prophecies foretold
secrets falling
– quiet
to the cold

press me
as forever
to the places
you begin
burst me as a bloom
beneath your skin

I’ll call you
in the morning
when there’s all day to forget
the ease with which
my words are lost again
– the almost
didn’t say it
of another time I knew
yet spoke so soft
my secrets bruised
your skin

I’ll call you when
the sun is turned
warm against my face –
forsaken every chance
to move along
discovering
the only path
– tho how
I’m meant to wonder
with nothing sure –
sleep can’t hold me long

I’ll call you over coffee
and do my best
to breathe

frosted
white of winter leaves
silence in the kitchen
where cluttered there with dishes
on the floor

survivors
of an evening past
how slow our recognition
of places held
before
the coffee spilt

splattered
to the ashes –
crystal cigarettes
are careful in their telling
of our lies

maybe
when the sun is poured
new across the vinyl –
we’ll wander here
to pick the pieces up

forgotten how it hurt
curses now gone colder –
tears have dried
beneath
the habit’s stain

of wonders

another someday
we shall find

through eternity’s
eye

in silence
I hear you –
in living I love
no different for ages
the past unrehearsed –
the start
where beginning
some other
one day –
immortal
eternal our verse

of promise –
are words
unwritten to tell –
would honor the places
I’ve known
lessons in loving –
mysteries fall
as willing the heart
to return
to its own

beg my confession
be weighted with lies
would torture the cleaving
of worth –
shared by a stutter
worn round my neck
as proof of another –
a once noble life

strain not to listen
as stories retold
of faraway
somewheres
we might have known well
garnered to pages
the wealth
of it all –
but trust to my silence
a love undefined
