was a consequence
of longing –
this eagerness to please
the seeker (only seeking)
as were lovers
for release

were blessings found
relentless –
as waves upon the shore
as ripples of remember
touched the place
we loved before

were this time
our only season –
might I plead you stay the night –
(and worry not for when
the light would come)

as dreams decided
by our sleep –
will slumber never end
our faith (to wait our waking)
as another life begins

were love resigned
to nothing more
than ashes blown away –
seeds where blooms (we planted)
burst to harvest
yesterday

let go my hand –
let go my love
the universe reclaimed
to mornings (we had wandered)
as before –
are now again

were heaven but a notion
of somewhere else we knew –
tho faraway
as angels (flocking) then

living still
within the breath
(eternities between)
as slumber without sleeping –
as dreams within
the dream
. . .

spare me
the telling
of where you might be
when the last
of the last days
is come

sew not confusion
o’er shadows reset
or living made less –
in pursuit
of the one

strained consequences
as someone sleeps in –
wrapped
in another man’s vow

bring me to worship
where questions
still burn –
awaiting of truth
to remember us now

breath to these embers
a moment too late
as words seldom used
stain the floor

death or delusion
I’d choose – rightly so
the turning of words
to the asking
for more

spare me the telling
of where you are now
forgotten
the reasons to go

sit me the night
at the doorway to next –
awash in the wonder
of tellings untold
. . .

let me speak
not of fear
but allowing for grace
would learn more
by loving each one
carried as verse
over moments rehearsed
and long still for curses
undone
let me rise
as a summer
glimmered with light –
and rolled past the blue
as a bird into flight
let me float on the wishes
unheard by the stars
and found still to others
unsaid –
guarded from death
by the promise of birth
and shadows come round
as a light ‘cross my bed
let me speak of forever
in tones soft and sweet –
and stall not the vision
of one day to meet
as was written before
unto tablets of stone –
let me love
as was loved –
e’er before love was known
let me give
not of grief a place here to stay
or wait as the night
comes slow to the day
were memories bound
to a place on the sand –
or warmth made much more
than hands wrapped
in hands
let me live
let me wander –
as my days would allow
give me bliss
unsurrendered –
each forever
to now

spare of me
the holding back
of one to know another –
by more than sight –
and more than story shared

breathe
as I am breathing you
as rhythm to my racing –
to dream the parts
I told you once
about

walk the way
was come at last –
to ease of me your burdens
leave your shoes
and feel the cool hard ground

drink with me
the waters flowed
as cold – this true embracing –
to find as one the source
of ancient swells

listen
can you hear it
the rush of distant springs
a flush of hallelujah
fills my veins

take my hand
and know the fate of every
fate decided –
of fortunes writ to lines
by more than red

kiss these lips
and know of words
were tasted long before –
and somewhere
still the sweetness
of your name

burns
against my tender tongue
wakes me up
sometimes –
fights against the freedoms
of my love

forsaken luck
of nevermore –
would will the seeker stall –
when worried for
the answers come
surrendered us to fall

forgotten now the barter
would bring such sweet release
beholding to each other
heart to heart –
as pleas to please

so many rules
so many trials –
with one more truth to tell
was not for me forever spoke –
with worries of the veil

of lessons in the leaving
let us go –
or let us lead
as oceans
soon returning
as sands beneath my feet

of will
my tender heart to swell
with loving wrecklessness –
secure as dreams
the wander true –
would never dream for less

of places left for you
how could I –
a happy ending –
ever write myself into
another day

a night made less
for pressed between
the crystal glass
of dawning
close my eyes
and somewhere we
embrace

mixed as harp with violin
creme brulee and cognac –
moments without rhyme
as verse to close

stray the pen
to chart these lands –
hill
and vale
and river
tary not for moments
without map

stay the night
with compass round
and mystery befalling –
the edge of time
else morning
we be gone

within the quiet
where I live –
as graces known before
autumn spills around me –
leaves are falling sore
to bring me now
into this still
where chilly secrets lay
as something more
than e’er my words could say

a wanderer
to southern winds –
a time of fates aligning
as streams to cross
and rhyme to understand
kentucky wears confession
of the pieces
to my heart –
and gifts the light
within my
soul to you

counted one
the end of me –
chapter twenty nine
as postage worn
reminding you of home
voices of forever
ring within my sound
a laughter seems to echo
now in dreams

dear and dearest
who am I –
and where my truth is come
does mystery await
the seeker find
weaved within these ribbons
of auburn silver
blue –
stars begat
the endless sky
as nights are winking true

ancient ways
of tender ache –
a time of consecration –
became these hands
to pull the night around
bring me to the edge
of sight –
return me now
your longing –
a whisper once
remembers still to come

. . .

what is it now
your longing heeds –
chasing milk with whiskey
seen me ’round –
in places I have been

another me
to lost haiku
three five three
no more –
a passing through of wisdoms
alignment with your core

stall the dreams
to feed your story
something someone said
of times you might have waited here
eight long nights
in bed

one more loss
to bust the hinges –
take the night but spare the blame
come the one to know your purpose
as sworn by fate
to wear your name

four more times
ten thousand reasons –
planets split the night with care
tell them all
you wondered far –
forgotten why you tarried
paths don’t seem the same
without me there

remember me
to empty arms –
an ember of belonging
places reconstructed by the light
remember these
of mysteries –
awaited your divine
petals opened now
will never close

remember me
the dapple sun –
as folded to her rising
the memory of raindrops
on the lawn
garner me
a time to tell –
promises forgotten
of breath returned in secret
blue within the smoke

remember me
as ink professed –
chapters now fulfilling
markers where the end was meant to be
carry love
as autumn crops –
harvest for the journey
a winter not yet satisfied
of snowflakes
gathering

remember me
of falling down –
and evenings spooled with grace
of slow unwinds
beneath the pines –
to bring me back this way
remember us –
to evermore
was there we first began
with hope for one more season
to every might have been

remember me –
the summer storm
of winter
to the trees

as letters unopened
left on my pillow
remembered of days yet to come
told of a mystery
few could imagine –
and where I might go
when living
was done

of sorrow rewritten
and lessons unveiled –
by the passing of stars
on a parallel flight
provision of destinies
fate realigned
to the way of the wanderer
burst into light

to wings
where the sparrow
was spared by the blue
and brushed into essence
of one sacred will –
crossed into places
unknown yet by some
becoming the more
of eternity still

sweet this submission
as love we become –
people
and places somewhere
touch I can almost remember
a name –
warms to my thought
as truth unaware

of moments
unguarded
dreams drift apart –
as shadows succumb
to the night where I lay
there in the hush
of destinies deep –
I write now the letters
you left yesterday
