i shall wait
wherever heavens
are traded
another good morning
a sweeter sunrise
i shall gather
whatever days i have left
and steal
to shadows
let loose
by the night
i shall sit in the quiet
of every
forever
wake while
the stars are still new
i shall swear
my allegiance
to places we loved
ten million canyons
devoted
to you
i shall make
of this prayer
some other remains
recalled to wherever
heaven
exists
silence made heavy
by words
i recall
as the breath
of my name
given back
by your kiss

lest i want for more
than breakfast
from your hands
words to spill
golden into light
the crush of dawn
another breath
surrendered
i remember
how it was to want
for nothing but the night
to pull around
easy
winter blankets
jealous were the stars
for where we lay
feasting on a moment
promised were they all
another time
with nothing more to want
than everything
. . .
25 Wednesday Oct 2023
was a night
whiskey stopped working
haunted hands
held at the gate
where once tempted
by angels
or so it was thought
some other
one day –
heaven was here
unburdened by death
sweet as a voice
to remember
me home
to a place almost
not forgotten
again –
what was left to surrender
of loves
i have known
. . .

i have waited
with nothing of story
to wait
no pages left barren
i knew yet to write
how was it to know
how much
should i care
when the years
have gathered
black to the lines
crossing the porch
some nights
as i prayed
another would come
sunlight would break
out on the pasture
i loved
as i love
prayed for a moment
to know
as i know
i could be
as i am
everything
. . .

however long
forever
saved itself for thee
to learn again
the depths
where love was fated
come for me
and i for you
i for this
when years were long
and cold
i dreamed beyond
the reach of dreams –
beyond the weight
of woe
lest prayers revive
the wonder
of more than once
enough
time is resurrected
by a promise
left to love
. . .
