crush me now
the eager vine –
with urge again to blossom
warms me even now
within the chill

scarlet as uncertain wing
reached beyond this telling
stretched to hold
the sky aloft –
earnestly to pray

gather life
to all I love
my promise to deliver
fill my cup of wonder –
let heaven overflow

were gifted love
such sweet embrace
of light to word –
and patterns raised

across and through
these onyx skies
as learning writ by lullabyes

as living sworn
to souls brand new
and seasons
I was come for you

on velvet tiptoes
down the board –
as whispers – not a one
I heard

of other lives –
my sore regret
was not for loss or places met –

but hours spent without a kiss
remembered well
the choice for bliss

one day of all
I’ve known would bind
my heart to yours –
as verse with rhyme

would weave the night
as daylight does –
renewed by faith
unmade by love

the first to go –
the last to linger
faces
places
blur the line
eyes rolled back
and there the future –
consequence
of love’s design

dimestore pearls
and easy does it
spend the last
of me to go
somewhere down the way
of searching –
time will prove
you told me so

I’ll be fine
no cause to worry
dare I leave the night ajar
one more step
from here to never
given push –
one time too far

blackened beaks
and silver rudders
destiny denied to form
close as some
the shadow spirals
reason rides before
the storm

what is it now
your longing heeds –
chasing milk with whiskey
seen me ’round –
in places I have been

another me
to lost haiku
three five three
no more –
a passing through of wisdoms
alignment with your core

stall the dreams
to feed your story
something someone said
of times you might have waited here
eight long nights
in bed

one more loss
to bust the hinges –
take the night but spare the blame
come the one to know your purpose
as sworn by fate
to wear your name

four more times
ten thousand reasons –
planets split the night with care
tell them all
you wondered far –
forgotten why you tarried
paths don’t seem the same
without me there

. . .

had I thought
to this day –
of every life passed between
some were rivers
some were mountains –
some (remembered as) dreams

had I known
(what I know)
when reflecting the truth
when swore to the darkness
the light would wear through

at the end
(of returning)
at the last we shall know
what was real
what was nothing –
what is left (letting go)

had I heard
you were coming –
(made the best of my time)
might have slept through the winter –
every season divine

had I loved
(only you)
of all I have held –
might these moments
be heaven enough
were there pause to remember
the first time we met –
my life (but a shadow)
to the memory of love

…

of fates undecided
by the moons
of july –
and wishes where
waters we flowed –
backwards returning
and further yet
north –
a frozen reminder
of time passing on

forgotten
the reasons –
for every misstep
and paths without conscious
to lure us away
as prophets forsaken
by promise to love –
for boots
and a bible –
was heaven betrayed

who’s to know
who would listen
were the world
made to hear –
and sworn for release
was music
to make

of another I knew
a truth almost gone
and a flame more
than dark could recall
a whisper dissolved
on the hope of a sigh
and worried
not far –
for the coming
again

I’ve known you awhile
more than nights
without name
or stories I’m sure
to remember –
swirls within letters
beauty disguised –
loops became lust
became love

sweet recognition
of times here before
turning of seasons
with nothing to lose –
reminders
how easy
was loving to breathe –
retelling of stories
once written
of you

this bliss ~

still
as a moment
pressed into light
a sigh
then another
let go

slow
as the beating
of locust to storm
and honey the bee
shall become

sweet
as remembered
bursting to song
and words
without reason
to stay

soft
as the whisper
of breath to my skin
where pleasing
the morning shall lay

fearless
falling –
breast to the blue
held to the clouds
by my soul

touch
and I’m one
with the essence
of life
as spirit finds wing
on the wind

. . .

give me to blue jeans
jasper and jasmine
tiny white pearls weaved into thread –
storied collection
of people and places
someone I miss
was somebody said

of boys and their business
pretention of men
and swore they could be
what they were in my eyes
angels (and demons)
traded a lifetime
of moments
and secrets
and sighs

breathe of the pages
the sweet smell of paper
rhyme
where there never was rhyme
flight resurrected
from limestone and sparrow
was heaven made whole –
these pieces of time

forgiven myself
for acts of transgression
felt something more
than the warm rise of breath
old silver coins
float in the fountain –
eternity more
than a strange
little death

spare me to words
gifts of forever –
are written to places
of cotton and steel
get me to home
while the crops are still standing
let me down easy
the stories are real

in the mist
that was my yesterdays
ten thousand silent birds
– beyond my will to hear
are singing now
but for the night
of wing’ed flight
to worlds beyond my birth
was never meant
a path to me somehow

speckled green
and tattered blues
patchwork bursts of reason
stitched with time
but worn the rest away
hung to line
the veil between
here I am and ever
– someone speaks
and I don’t know their name

shutter speed
as autumn peaks
to fall beneath the cedars
climbing up
to make my bed beyond
little lights
to prick my skin
– who am I to tell
when left outside the gate
a moment long

pressed into
the winter wheat
smelled of other courage
and where our
dreams have gone –
I couldn’t say
leaving takes the
longest time
when all the crops come in
– the mist is rising slowly
to melt my fears
away

split apart ~

rob the cradle
now to sound
of lullabies unspoken
forgiven to the dusk –
I know your light

slipped as felt
beneath the sheets
truth I should have noted
was pressed into my pillow
by release

guard these long
forsaken dreams –
kisses without memory
of where we’ll be tomorrow
split apart

darn my socks
and stir my soup –
bring my coffee morning
and I shall write a poem
to your face

slowly
with the ink of trust
pages to consider
as shadows falling backward
to the dark
