winter weaves
a woolen blanket
threat beneath
the snow
warm the thought
of kisses
falling down
tender as
the willing
to remember
days gone by –
and there our purpose
waits
without a sound

preyed upon
prayed apart –
whispers read aloud
tho no one knows
the way of mine
for long
brushed against
convention –
waited thru the night
held you here
as rhyme against
my song

how is it
words were come
when there was nothing
left to say
names already written
to my heart

fade to light
so easily –
pull me from my dreams
dared to sleep
– remember me
this way

touch
not soon forgotten
graces understood
miles to go –
and still
I wander on

driven by a madness
settled as a saint –
counting
out my blessings
every one

take of mine
my moments –
as want for any less
change is sure
tho I shall
linger here

eased against
forever –
weighted by a sigh
held by something
greater still
than I

the signs of age –
a road already worn
the ways of some
an ancient oak
retold
and I
for one
could never guess
the wisdom
you would carry
proof revealed
– some heaven
here
below

scattered ‘bout
these weary days
this plea
for something more
than e’er a page
a rhyme
could keep us fed
learned into
this passion
wherein your name
is kept
folded near
each page
upon my bed

sapphire tears
are hidden
by a questioning of light
of fear betrayed
with love
I couldn’t say
of where I’d be
when morning found
me watching
for a sign
when worlds beyond
our knowing –
fell away

I’ve no memory
of when

the roads
between
or how I’ll carry

the way
of mine –
the blossoms sore
but for the times
confessed
when woke for you
another sunday
best

let me feel
let me stay
curve into my places
surrender not
a moment
of regret

of stars
beyond the reach
of where
forever let us
lead –
a silence
just as sweet
I’ll not forget

melted now
my skies

their way

dew is all but taken

can move our hurts
to heal
falls into the
measure

that we are
seems as if
we were meant
for the flaw in our asking
– of longing unspent

so close
to the reaching
was the promise of more
than shadows permitting
this side of the door

moments
tho faded
find meaning in verse
in the same way we started
– as a dance
unrehearsed

from my keeping
some measure of blame
where destines chasing
as willed –
we became

wears the first breath
of word
for the poet
a moment unmeant
for the cleaving apart
smudges of carbon
blue and black cinder
stay our confusion –
of ashes
to hearth

in the want
for another –
some knowing unsaid
else silence
these blessings erase
with sorrows grown eager
turning us round –
forsaken for love
would hold us
always

where the next
is beginning –
the past grieving so
as the shutter
of spring –
a flight coming home
to resolve
what is missing
remembered somehow
as the taste of surrender
in words

with whispers –
stories of the road
times you called my name
I heard you clear
above the dreams
of might have been
and where you’ll rest
tonight –
as I with plans
one day
to hold you near

silence stales
the cigarette
lipstick coffee cup
clean the break
of one more living shared
long before the sunset
knew to save
her paints –
your fingerprints
were glowing everywhere

dream the stars
from going
with questioning just so
a universe
where love is felt
the same
as sleep along the highway
counting back the miles
– stirred awake
by whispers
of your name
