someoneIusedtobe

neath the clutter
of september
the roof is hanging on
weathered there as passion to exhume
soft a bed of feathers
wilts within the storm –
where watches now
the blue become
the moon

pardoned
every reason
for where and when we were –
easing into everything
we fade
passions wear to wanting
for years beyond the ache
how we were
before this mess
we made

lashes
blink a sure escape
sorrows without shame
locks were never meant to keep the door
crouched against the memory
of almost all we had
maybe I’ll remember
something more

than ashes
in my coffee –
longing come and gone
dishes without match
to all we said
leaving gets forsaken
by the want to stick
around –
sheets no longer fitted
to the bed

breathless

soft the rain
of patient verse
of purpose
undecided –
fell against the light
and rolled away

who
I’ve wondered
how it feels
to know which way the wind
where north is settled
deep into the clay

silence there
the taste of words
your lips
where once my name
flooded all your senses
with hello

centipede
and crickets cry
paper
cayenne mornings
twilight leans into
the ways
I know

graces
come the stars
ten billion nights
as east by west
was taken
thought I knew
of times we passed somewhere
adrift in space
recalled to grace
were moments here
to wander –
light is pulling candles
from my hair

nursery rhyme
of borrowed time
two steps back and forward
as wilderness –
so sweet the letting loose
when sailed beyond
my favored moon
colors dream of me
life is love –
with evermore
to choose

pressing

I’ve found my joy
in pieces –
once again
the same as I
as years and miles
– eternities begun
as silent prose
so rarely known
fit with words and painted
sherbet melon skies
around the sun

were poets
but a name
we gave
to those with dare
for dreaming –
dragonflies
and there I pass alone
swept in counted linen
falling to and fro
crooked boards
with want
to plead
my soul

wonder
banks the tallest pine
with whispers
of regret
prophets warn
of moments got away
before the wake
of just how much
we’d give to come again
night birds chasing
memory
into day

canecreekbridge

curses
catch the sheets on fire
when chance
you swore to leave
broken
every plate I own
decided not to grieve

for the busted chair
the heavy heart –
weeds to crowd my soul
a bridge in need
of mending –
morning whispers
cold

as winter warned
the flame to die –
with promises of spring
ashes silt the corners
reminders –
every thing

of yesterdays
returned anew –
the choice made long ago
flowers bloom
in shades of smoke
– for reasons
I don’t know

. . .

Author’s Note:  I’ve been carrying this
picture around for almost three
years…..waiting for words
to wake me.

from here

stretched between
the buttons
of purple clover crown
scattered as the petals
yellow red
here am I
(remembered)
to these sweetly
fragile souls
take me
let me hurry not
ahead

the path into
where heaven sits
in silence with the sun
just beyond the reach
of yester night
tarry me a moment
yet –
let the waiting wait
will my soul to blossom –
as lovers
into light

shadowme

merciful
transgression
when I was but a girl
held in dreams
for nights before you knew
carried by the notion
pieces sworn to find –
the best
I was – a memory
of you

how strange
these lines
resolved of me –
before the sunlight fade
became of me
a shadow
by your door
recalled the first of kisses
the last of secrets told

 a whisper now –
so sweet the cry
for more

. . .

whereverIam

mother calls
on sunday
while daddy listens in
catching up –
it seems we’ve done it all
someone had a baby
someone said hello –
fifty years of loving
to recall

strung the line
for forty feet –
sheets out in the rain
a cigar box
of memories to share
everything
(the best of me)
sits in spools of rhyme
the night is lost
when I don’t
find you there

there’s a piece of thread
nearly gone –
and jeans I shouldn’t wear
just beyond the reach
of mystery
beyond the hold
of all I love –
another morning news
the moon is wanting in –
let him be

edges of fall 2013

shadows slide
beneath the crest –
echoes into song
the wake becomes our dreaming
to defend
laurel blooms
a sacred curse –
of choices made too few
a promise grew
to will us back again

questioning
these turns of fate
to touch on places tender
would mark as gifts
where skin is burned away
tracing stars
from one and back
ancient silver ladle
pours the light of living
empty into day

without regard
the midnight strains
against the gates
of morning
as red and purple sashes
counter blame
surrendered of another time
we stood beyond
the firelight
and made believe
wings were filled with flame

in the warmth
of stained glass raisin
in the sweet hello
of spring –
I know you there
(sometimes I wear
your ring)

in the silky smooth
forgiveness –
eyes are closed
and arms held wide
there’s a place (I go)
beyond the reach
of time

in a golden glow
the universe
remembers me by name
dreams (to fit beneath
my skin) –
are learned of love
the same
