of living
i’ve decided
to save the best for this
my only ever once
forever time
– one kiss
ages past
were i to feel
an ache denied of blue
how is it now
i know
what these arms
were fated to
there are no words
no sordid rhymes
no wish
denied a star
time and places
someone wrote my name
was for this moment
lifetimes passed
tho i cannot recall
where time is gone –
there is no ache
at all
. . .

sometimes
words elude me
there’s bitter
on my tongue
for days
sometimes nights
i can’t explain
the way it is
ways i’ve forgotten
how to feel
tho lately you are near
and i can dream
of pages
where the pages end
lines to circumvent
ages
where my memory remains
folded into blankets
high upon a shelf
where once you were –
and i was yours
this way
. . .

13 Monday Nov 2023
lest i want for more
than breakfast
from your hands
words to spill
golden into light
the crush of dawn
another breath
surrendered
i remember
how it was to want
for nothing but the night
to pull around
easy
winter blankets
jealous were the stars
for where we lay
feasting on a moment
promised were they all
another time
with nothing more to want
than everything
. . .

whatever has passed
echoes of summer
as last year’s winter
three feet below
a remembrance of grace
petals emerging –
revealed as the spring
to our soul
for moments like this
will is forsaken
dreams we let sleep
another one day
far past the morning
came as desire
to seal our forgiveness –
to steal us away
. . .
25 Wednesday Oct 2023
was a night
whiskey stopped working
haunted hands
held at the gate
where once tempted
by angels
or so it was thought
some other
one day –
heaven was here
unburdened by death
sweet as a voice
to remember
me home
to a place almost
not forgotten
again –
what was left to surrender
of loves
i have known
. . .

were there words
i didn’t know
at rest beneath my bed
left to die
another
some fine day
verses i allowed
to be gathered like a curse
can’t feel them here
can’t know of them
lest they came
to stay
i didn’t know
i didn’t know
to bear the crush
of seasons –
leaves in crimson shades
yellow beams
of flight
let me feel
let me see
of things i never knew
words i never
thought
would let me be
. . .

solve me now
this mystery
of where and why
you came
when years have passed
– no one speaks
my name
but out beyond
the cedars
far beyond the dark
twilight rains
and i become
your touch
something more
than everything
for something more
i prayed
would find my wanting
met –
some other day
while getting on
getting older
lest i grieve
a moment more
to learn the ways
you came for me –
to understand
how far
. . .
