of scars
all but faded
the beginning is lost –
no reminder is left
of the pain
of stories we started
forgotten us now
were given us choice
to remain

more than a few
are sealed within lies –
a place I was going
when fell by the way
given to truth
I thought would oblige
souvenirs kept
with the blade

crisscross
remember –
threads into silk
moments reweaved
by their coming apart
letters have worked their way
into skin –
scars running clean
to the heart

sometimes
I’m remembered
to places once I fell
and arms that reached around me
in the dark

whispers of forgiveness
settle me tonight
clover grows
in meadows never seen

leaving
never meant to last
still I’ve kept the best –
verses (twenty more
and there your name)

passages decided
by the turning of a page
chapters never written
even now the stars
defend

to know the way
we came before –
would hold forever safe
softened by the telling
and tempted not
by fate

woke the heart
to thunder –
e’er this might be the day
I’d sleep til noon
and never say your name
never want
for more than this –
silence wrapped in sheets
daylight pulling breath
across my bars

once before
and here am I –
agreed another sun
for knowing you
how long the leaving for
midnight
seems to have no say
hands to trace the clock
rain is falling
somewhere
I can tell

of places
there’s another
universe the same –
though not so much
for grieving
roses bloom
sapphire to an endless sky
pillows seldom talk
– morning comes
and I’m not missing you

the dates seemed far away
but stars –
they huddled near
shuffled with the wing’eds
early clay

of weeping then
I know you heard
my crying on the wind –
begged you come
another
yesterday

worried not
for leaving
or what tomorrow knew
of places still
unwritten – leaving
left undue

will poets tell
of all we felt –
of mercies spilled to rhyme
gathered first as angels
to the pen

memorizing
times before –
were sworn to keep us still
falling into reasons
for missing time
again

asyouwish

of meaning unspoken
I was a dreamer –
dwelling on words yet unsaid
rolled as a quilt
and stored on the dresser
with mysteries waiting
unread

the start of forever
and I would be willing
to trade every moment til then
for one more beginning
another ascending
were heaven decided
again

by the touch
of the sunlight
warm through the window
moonlight burnt
by the trees
loving regard
for something made over
and living to bend
as we please

a distant horizon
much more than a promise –
were reason
a truth unrevealed
as rivers to carry
a heartbeat to ferry
passion remembers us
still

kept by tomorrow
as blessings to borrow –
forever – as will
to allow
pressed as the morning
against my returning
– tis there I’ll find you
somehow

are wasted here
already I’ve forgotten
only this –
the ways of you again
roads of almost flooded
nights to lives between
tell me now of where
we new begin

match my beat
as one to one
other rhymes remembered
soul to soul
as one more time
to rise
cradled by the universe
safe within your storm
venus – my reflection
in your eyes

against your winds
rock me there
eternal with your dance
westward as the sunset
empties day
burning hot
above the places
we’ve returned to love
give me back the breath
you took away

the will
for looking back
a path o’ertook by vine
as strangeness there
forgotten us –
whittles at my time
with never been
and waiting then
the story to betray
when touch was more
than touching –
loving more than lace

I should have known
I never did –
love carries me the same
as lives I lived
somewhere before –
the best of me
remains
belonged to you
held you close –
nights I had no say
of what would last
the morning light
to take my breath
away

of castles dark
or meadows smoke –
now muted into blue
in silent sweet surrender
another time I knew
the words you said
before you spoke –
an echo crushes still
the strength of love
from one –
the next forever
shall reveal

the rainbow knows
the calling of the wind
and where he hides
his pictures
of the sea

forgotten now
the winter swell –
sweaters old and frayed
longer was the crying

the nightingale

reminded me
of ancient nights –
was there
I touched the sun

the words of starlight
are the secrets
lost generations ago
the rhymes of the moon
are lover’s promises
like the cooing of turtle doves
the nightingale brings hope
of tomorrow
the songs of whales
strangely distant and soft
are the keepers of destiny –
versed in irregular meter
that hastens the waves of the sea
movements to the whims of the moonlight
promises never meant
to keep
