where we were

how sweet
the light of love divine
a wing’ed
to my flame
without a thought
for promises
by name

you come again
as e’er you might –
another down
the road
an angry man
resolved
to getting old

of distant stars
an ancient way –
I strain to understand
forgave the past
a softer place
to land

knowing
as I know you –
a shadow
splits the dark
forgotten how I knew
of where to start

. . .

light from the east ~

moments

it seems
I’ve forgotten
the reasons for us
and where you were going
before I came down
– a breeze
from the mountains
as light from the east
– a some kind of angel
in white cotton gown

at the mention of always –
sometimes I loose sight
of the way
that the world takes her time
as balanced perfection –
wherein I forget
the beauty of presence
divine

a scatter of ashes
in clusters of blue –
a sign by the side
of a once traveled road
remembers our passing
as time
on the map –
a place come of knowing
– of dreams
taking hold

. . .

ways we were come to begin ~

stilltheyknow

scatter to west
the weight of my winds
as proof of my lowly
remembrance
so dear was the tracing
of ways we were come
to begin
where we ended
before

from the road
even now
forgotten lays best
weeds spent with briar
and thorn
recalled to our worth
existence somehow
shall hold not my heart
for one moment
more

how fitful
this dreaming
this almost becomes –
as you martyr yourself
while I wait
skilled at forgiveness
tho never once asked
the nails almost bent
in surrender
of late

darling
the well
needs repair in the autumn
let not the leaves
have their way
to find what was needed
are souvenirs still
carved into places
time can’t betray

for another
once offered –
begged without word
the meaning of life
from a star
shifted the covers
while silence snuck in
left me a note
of your going
afar

the hinges
have rusted –
and there go the rhymes
tho echoed
by living –
the sharing divine
of a path
not so separate
as the ways you have been
a kiss waiting tender
your coming
again

. . .

into this one

yesterday
the sunlight tasted
pepper cantaloupe
tho last night left me not
a drop of wine
grieving for a poem wrote
a month ago last Tuesday
– thought you here
but now I feel
you’re gone

the way of
summer shadows –
straight back ladder chairs
black and white
photographs of then
cool beneath my memory
touch to pause
the same

are pasted to a page
I never turned

. . .

rush ahead ~

knewmewhen

for a while
it seems
the rain has come –
to wash away the river
sands beyond the banks
on which we lay
another time
of leaving you –
how it was that way
to find us here
no longer now
the same

for ages
I was waiting –
and still you stayed afar
to wonder
did you know
how could you know
there were roads
no less forgotten
 somewhere weeds to grow
around this bed
blue within your smoke

one more lie
to listen –
save your favored time
rush ahead –
to claim this touch
divine
of worlds
I have no vision
beyond this one we make
dream me now
and I will stay
awake

. . .

returning me this way ~

nottoofar

traces mark the ways
I came –
rings around the bark
flowers here
I planted yesterday
what passions I’ve surrendered –
haunt this mortal ground
– whispered wind
returning me
this way

letters writ
a lifetime more –
ageless as their love
to sweat against the verses
every line
fingers rubbed a shade
of blue –
seeking still to claim
remnants of a story
more than mine

last I heard
of not much left
was buried somewhere south
below the line of parting
would you care
for promise lost –
except for these
I’ve kept them every one

the road is gone
and dreams won’t take me
there

. . .

the song of knowing well ~

in places I remain

for a little while
beauty slept
– a shadow of my life
curled into a corner
cobweb dreams
woke before the coffee
stayed up all night long
talked and talked
for hours –
loved me
sight unseen

more than once
the paper came and told
with bitter news
the passing of a place
I’d loved before
filled my heart
with sadness –
however could it be
for every loss –
the wait
was weighted more

lullabies
were all I knew –
to rock and rock
and weep
counting loud each moment
until dawn
begging absolution –
rid my lone regret
of graces saved –
my need to linger on

painted black
and all the rest –
sunlight spills the same
to warm a single
feather
on my bed
beauty sleeps
while I rehearse
the song of knowing well
of times foretold
in moments
we were dead

Author’s Note – I feel compelled to explain a bit of these
words. Suffice to say, they are not sad nor are they intended
to be. And yet I know that we find what we find – and save (sometimes)
what we were never meant to carry.

longwayhome
  . . .

morning fits
with amber hues
her memory of night –
of places left
beyond the reach of dreams
where stories fell in secret
pages brittle bound –
light was lost to
moments
burned between

longing wakes
before the sun –
pulls the covers round
til supper is grown cold
and windows black –
living tends to hurt
the least
dying feels so wrong –

time
– it seems so different
looking back

rememberme

consequence
of faded troubles
evergreen against the black
listen long
no need pretending
was here we meant
for coming back

into this light
as one with darkness
take of all
but take my hand
walk with me
these paths of silence
close your eyes
to understand

were there rules
would care of living –
what of blue
this night defines
hereto words
the poet whispers
time is but a state of mind

love made less
with broken verses –
stories writ as ink to skin
tears foretold
of truths beginning
willing us to live
again

pines
are stretched beyond the fence
where almost
I’d forgotten
the place of dreams
a moment when I knew
of faith in everafter
even now
my heart is come
to sit the night
with all the stars
in view

named
for every passing
lines
across and back
blue the same as virgo
holy white

memories are gathered
for a time of sweet release
faces
unseen traces
of my past
swirls of day old coffee
await my coming round
dark is but a well
of wishes cast
