rememberme

consequence
of faded troubles
evergreen against the black
listen long
no need pretending
was here we meant
for coming back

into this light
as one with darkness
take of all
but take my hand
walk with me
these paths of silence
close your eyes
to understand

were there rules
would care of living –
what of blue
this night defines
hereto words
the poet whispers
time is but a state of mind

love made less
with broken verses –
stories writ as ink to skin
tears foretold
of truths beginning
willing us to live
again

the stained glass
works of art
garner little sunshine
the marble inside
is dust-dulled

the faithful arrive only
for special ceremonies
in the meantime
there is no money to pay
the janitor’s insurance

fees should he topple
from the ladder twenty feet high
attempting to clean windows
I – like many

worship in distant words
a faraway ritual of my concocting
the private practice of prayer
only moves me —
its physical beauty
does not teach patience

nor how to leap
into the arms of a faith
that tomorrow will
indeed be brighter
because I fold my hands

mouthing alleluia
in time with ancient sacred hymns
that yet touch
a secret place in my soul

psalms91

reason grows in patches
fated disarray
as bent into the shade
misunderstood

of summers
were there e’er enough
to make up for the chill
breezes unrelenting
do they know

daisies painted
yellow –
mystery revealed
as glories strain
the steeple every time

lessons
spent on tenderness
tore apart the past
saved upon the tongue
another name

hid within
the oldest psalm –
a secret yet unknown
message from a heart
no longer sung

pen to page
whate’er was lost
shall find us here again –
taken by a sigh
into the sun

. . .

signs ~

becoming, breath, connection, destiny, faith, fearless, grace, gravel roads, life, literature, love, memory, old maps, passion, postmark, reason, restless, spirit, spirituality, strength, truth, understanding, wandering

of fates undecided
by the moons
of july –
and wishes where
waters we flowed –
backwards returning
and further yet
north –
a frozen reminder
of time passing on

forgotten
the reasons –
for every misstep
and paths without conscious
to lure us away
as prophets forsaken
by promise to love –
for boots
and a bible –
was heaven betrayed

who’s to know
who would listen
were the world
made to hear –
and sworn for release
was music
to make

of another I knew
a truth almost gone
and a flame more
than dark could recall
a whisper dissolved
on the hope of a sigh
and worried
not far –
for the coming
again

I’ve known you awhile
more than nights
without name
or stories I’m sure
to remember –
swirls within letters
beauty disguised –
loops became lust
became love

sweet recognition
of times here before
turning of seasons
with nothing to lose –
reminders
how easy
was loving to breathe –
retelling of stories
once written
of you

split apart ~

rob the cradle
now to sound
of lullabies unspoken
forgiven to the dusk –
I know your light

slipped as felt
beneath the sheets
truth I should have noted
was pressed into my pillow
by release

guard these long
forsaken dreams –
kisses without memory
of where we’ll be tomorrow
split apart

darn my socks
and stir my soup –
bring my coffee morning
and I shall write a poem
to your face

slowly
with the ink of trust
pages to consider
as shadows falling backward
to the dark
