were gifted love
such sweet embrace
of light to word –
and patterns raised

across and through
these onyx skies
as learning writ by lullabyes

as living sworn
to souls brand new
and seasons
I was come for you

on velvet tiptoes
down the board –
as whispers – not a one
I heard

of other lives –
my sore regret
was not for loss or places met –

but hours spent without a kiss
remembered well
the choice for bliss

one day of all
I’ve known would bind
my heart to yours –
as verse with rhyme

would weave the night
as daylight does –
renewed by faith
unmade by love

had I thought
to this day –
of every life passed between
some were rivers
some were mountains –
some (remembered as) dreams

had I known
(what I know)
when reflecting the truth
when swore to the darkness
the light would wear through

at the end
(of returning)
at the last we shall know
what was real
what was nothing –
what is left (letting go)

had I heard
you were coming –
(made the best of my time)
might have slept through the winter –
every season divine

had I loved
(only you)
of all I have held –
might these moments
be heaven enough
were there pause to remember
the first time we met –
my life (but a shadow)
to the memory of love

…

this bliss ~

still
as a moment
pressed into light
a sigh
then another
let go

slow
as the beating
of locust to storm
and honey the bee
shall become

sweet
as remembered
bursting to song
and words
without reason
to stay

soft
as the whisper
of breath to my skin
where pleasing
the morning shall lay

fearless
falling –
breast to the blue
held to the clouds
by my soul

touch
and I’m one
with the essence
of life
as spirit finds wing
on the wind

. . .

Had I more
than one more day
and one more spring to bloom
– a perfume born
of every sweet goodbye
Had I feet for walking back
home another way –
truth to be remembered
love beyond my life

Had I more
than one more heart
one wish to grant the stars
– and time to choose
before my time was gone –
Would lie beneath
the oldest oak
to hear his stories told
and dream within the comfort
of his arms

split apart ~

rob the cradle
now to sound
of lullabies unspoken
forgiven to the dusk –
I know your light

slipped as felt
beneath the sheets
truth I should have noted
was pressed into my pillow
by release

guard these long
forsaken dreams –
kisses without memory
of where we’ll be tomorrow
split apart

darn my socks
and stir my soup –
bring my coffee morning
and I shall write a poem
to your face

slowly
with the ink of trust
pages to consider
as shadows falling backward
to the dark

in a moment come
such singular respect
to endless possible
promise
and quietly
swelled up hope
suffice to stretch
the ring and still
the questions asked

bitter as the poison tongue
tired (again) of tasting
anoint me with something new
as rare as I
in anticipation
of one more forever
a sun almost risen

leaning beyond
this chasm
of familiar unfamiliar
and thought not far to leaving
for the air hangs still
with hello
and supper not yet cold

as I will ~

of places becoming
the long way to home –
and a time of reflection
wherever I’m gone
more than these
I have nothing –
nothing more than of words
and hands to make heaven
a voice to be heard

of stories
retelling
of reasons to know
what I’ve sworn to remember –
was a grace to let go
give the world
of my riches
for the poor shall be paid
from the life I was making
when the clouds slipped
away

I shall wake
as another
one day not so long –
and right what was written
to save what was wrong

give me land
give me orchards –
let me fall
as I will –
as a stone to the waters
some other to fill

as a chorus
where angels
are come to delight –
a thought still becoming
as skin burned to light
I shall know
when each sorrow
falls new to the ground –
as love is returned
and makes
not a sound

were the banks
overflowing
with green velvet lace –
and stones
whiter polished
by the river’s erase
in the rushing of thunder
as songs to the trees
were blossoms
just starting
their love to release

never more
to be noticed
let the waters yet rise
and ashes be scattered
beyond winter skies
lest this name
be forgotten
as a bittersweet time
when I left to the rapids
my fate to refine

from cool
crystal glaciers
my yesterday flowed
through the valley
of mountains
my ankles – my toes
til the blue
almost broke me
with icey remorse
when a drop of forever
took this spirit
off course

rushing long
into something
more than will to pretend
was the sea
I was waiting –
my life to begin
as ways without reason
passion churns with the tide
lest I drift thru
december –
this chill to abide
…

♥
give me to laughter
one more everafter –
and suffer not long the choice
to receive
ribbons unspooling
destinies fooling
as midnight
meant maybe
and let us believe

there are worlds
sapphire blue
the color of eyelids –
and places held closer than blame
sworn to our keeping
as somebody’s presence
when left us to answer
of questions the same

to where we began
in the starting all over
was heaven now given

a time and a place
as near to our own –
another forgiven
was held to our being
creation retraced

scored by the letting
of light into loving –
everything
less than this moment (this now)
the gift of endurance –
with every salvation
longing made whole
in the love
we allow

of a day
unremembered
(not the same) as before –
and numbers turned over
as a note by the door
of the things
worth our missing
when the light burned away
and darkness came long
to recover our place

as we stood
with our arms round another
(we were)

of these stones
to be written –
and dates (we don’t care)
what is real
of the world we created (one day)
reality burns as the quiet takes hold
(and no one remembers)
your name

as music
resounding
from distant refrains –
dance cut of cedar and pine
wishes (laid down
by the side of the bed)
and love
sworn to find us
(divine)

who are you (now)
I can’t say for sure
was there ever a time when I knew
the light(ness of being)
the fire burning (yet)
as wilderness grew
in your place

still (as the one)
forsaken (no more)
as a word bent to ear
(on the ways) to become

I shall live as a story –
of how we were then
(when I lived)
as I loved –
you (remember) again
…
