fragile eternity

beyond
these distractions
of pillar and pause
easy financing
of all we could want –
will finds a way
in the silence for speaking

yet muffled the voice
of the heart

wrapped in confusion
experience worn –
each to its own time and place
fated regard of
temporal illusion –

were not for the seeing
we saw

wasted as time
stole away with the clock
woke but a moment
too late
counting possessions
from memory they were
and swore not to dreaming
again

lest something
be missing
was not on our list
how could forever be gone
when kept on the shelf
with things
we have not –

lifetimes forgotten
to live

unsettled ~

remember

of dying
I have but a faint
recollection
gathered in pieces
of living before
sometimes a flood
of almost not memories
of people and places
I’ve known
yet I don’t

exactly the moment
but there in my keeping
a moment unsettled
was yet to be dreamed
how is it I’ve passed
into newness
becoming
and kept of the leaving
some worries undone

a flaw in the story
was stumbled in finding
mornings of lifetimes
within the same sun
nights
as the moon
lay on my shoulder
stars – an illusion
I named every one

slowly but surely
threads to unravel –
knotted so many
the charms working free

from all
that we wondered
unchanged by the dying
are faraway traces
still living in me

dreamscapes ~

sometimes

in the wake
of a dream
a tear to my face
so quietly
tenderness come
spoke without speaking
knew what was known
and wrapped was my faith
in once more
alone

pressed
as the fairest
of bloom to the page
perfumed reminder of us

dust

what will it matter
when time passes on
the imprint of moments
we stood
in this place
and watched as the sun
burned a hole –
coddled by bourbon
and lace

wisdom has found
a place on my pillow
while knowledge sleeps
out on the porch
makes not a peep
as eternity falls –
swept as the last
perfect star to be saved

e’er will I wonder
of distance not far
and places forgiven
as witness
to change
hands barely touching
remember it all

how I envy
their innocent streams

tellme

as it was written
so are we now
reach out and gather
these words to resound
in the coming and going
in seed yet to bud
gardens denied
disbelief

traces revealed
in the living undone
breath even now has a way
of deciding the places
my soul shall retain
as silver makes haste
– time
disappears

as one
with the universe
sung by its tune
laid side by side for a while
choices defending
the feel of the road
as somewhere
they wait for me now

mystic
a winter white stag
keeps a bride
on the meadow
and sometimes
he finds her in dreams
they speak not of hours
or measure of more –
and waste not a tear
for goodbyes

psalms91

reason grows in patches
fated disarray
as bent into the shade
misunderstood

of summers
were there e’er enough
to make up for the chill
breezes unrelenting
do they know

daisies painted
yellow –
mystery revealed
as glories strain
the steeple every time

lessons
spent on tenderness
tore apart the past
saved upon the tongue
another name

hid within
the oldest psalm –
a secret yet unknown
message from a heart
no longer sung

pen to page
whate’er was lost
shall find us here again –
taken by a sigh
into the sun

drifting

had I known the way
to know you then –
or knew myself
much more –
than petals almost crushed
beneath my will

as lanterns burned
beyond the wick
destinies unfolding –
beyond the letting on
are holding still

of sacrifice
uncertain
was a time
you came to me
dreaming –
still just dreaming
of today

fragile tales
of how we were –
and where the trees
were young –
how many lives
remembered me
that way

on wishing
there was one dark night
we slept beneath the cedars
and woke
before the starlings
took to air

caught within
their flutter
was a moment
of divine –
moonlight mourned our leaving
stars were in my hair

canopy of evergreen
tapestry of truth –
for where the forest bends
and words concede

shadows shift
against the still
as memories return
–  echoes fill the night
with falling leaves

newdawn

sweet
as befalling
the evidence mine
of warmth faraway
unresolved –
trembling there
by the side of the way
wrapped in red ribbon
clung to the fence

stalwart intruder
fell itno grace and
watched as the darkness
unfolded the dawn
silver and sharp
spun by a cord
perfect
imperfect
covered with scars

living and dying
again to renew
the promise writ down
with my soul
passions unveiled
as the curtains were drawn
and made into sense
by the light

seasons

beyond my prayer
this thought becomes –
a plea for understanding
hands confessed
to steady
beats the drum

liar liar
claim the fire
will set the night aflame
and swear me not
to stories
of a time I loved
the same

of babydolls
and choochoo trains
someone left to listen –
lessons brushed with flannel
cowboy dreams

move the bed
and light the longing –
read the pages bent
balanced not the living
with the loss –
wilderness
to wander me
Sunday morning sometimes –
as lacey white the feathers
of a dove

stills the breath
beneath the covers
seasons pass again –
with only this for keeping
until then

in empty fields
the sunlight wakes –
with memory of another
the sins of turning back
at last are gone

permission to surrender
these skies to cross into
lead me back
where I am known
by everything I knew

gifts

make for me
the moments long
let the music play
beyond the reach of winter hands –
this precious
Christmas day

wrap for me
the sweetest gift
that I might open wide
the blossom
of my fragile heart –
a season undenied

wherein the midnight
glistens now –
the same eternal shine
as once a baby welcomed me
with innocence divine

of places not forsaken
let me find them every one –
returning now
the ways of love –
immortal I become

the bluest night
o brightest star
alight on virgin snow
as ancient signs fortelling –
the first of these to know

as moments stilled
by silent winds
around this sacred tree
remains of love
tho undeserved –
the only gift
I need

sweetestblush

swayed beneath
the mistletoe
my daddy brought me
Sunday –
was wound atop
a cedar tree
and rescued by his bow
was not a place
for ribbons
just the scent
of something magic
a life so sure
of living
would find in me
a kiss

without words ~

disturbance

lifetimes becoming
the only way how –
I could know
all I know
in the presence
of now

melodies played
on the strings of my heart
music I lost long ago
purple wallpaper
and who ever sleeps
in blankets the color
of snow

mercy and mayflies
failed me before –
but somewhere they wait
up the night
cause for no worry
and work with no pay –
dreaming
becoming
a winter in flight

signs on the road
are covered with vine
poison –
and something less sweet
berries and beautiful
go now their way –
split by the path of before
we could meet

paradise deals
in permissions to love –
moments when all becomes clear
names burned away
by the warm glow of life
fingers worn down
by the tracing of years

pieces forgotten
stitched into one –
mornings grown close
to the little white lie
told when nothing makes sense
time leaves a scar
on the coming back safe
lifetimes lived o’er –
our lowly defense

tiny gold teaspoons
blossomed to light –
are home to the songs
(without words)
I recite
