of women
made stronger
by the crush of the wind
– what are left
of those kind
anyways
taught us to love
warned us to bend
cursed us
by looking
(in silence) away
forsaken already
the grievous report
of something made more
by distrust
whispered of places
Camelot ruled
– graces this world
has forgot

were only these days –
the weight of our life
a moment
surrendered
to stone
dying denied
the sweetest caress
are names – nothing more
than a measure
of bone
as years
left behind –
find their way
to another
a breeze through the window
where perfume remains
of a place
we were gifted
by love to let go
shall lie in the fullness
of hearts (can we know)
how many
how precious
the blossoming seed
will thrive
in the shade
where talk is allowed –
as our story retold
with the slightest
regret
is essence recalled
by the soul
living yet

stood beyond
the blanket
of blistered buttercups
grasses green
the sweeping wheat
of song
passions
I could ne’ver confess
swirl to aching verse
leaned into the hunger
of the wind
seasons gone
five hundred years
names are written over
as sides have taken
comfort
in the loss
of choices
made – the past is gone
tho none can say for sure –
what of love
was written to endure
immortal still
the essence left
of places where we lay
– as whispers to awaken
in fields
of yesterday
. . .

wet leaves
scattered –
friend to foe
lunas into sorrows
flaming as the scarlet
black –
nature’s cabaret
silken souls
defend their woes
martyrs of the moon
whisper of the lying nights
nestled us between
cold beneath
the dapple light
spun amid the shadows
was come of love
when spring remembered fall
roses crushed to memory
– scents I used to wear
pressed into my hem –
a garden gate
cocked the head
of ravens –
ancient mercies
home to roost
with pieces wound
of juniper and jade –
silver voices rise
into the chilly mountain air
opal eyes reflecting
us as truth
. . .

to stories
I’m a stranger –
to the ways of getting in
could never cut the vines
or burn the braids –
would sail
and never wonder
why the river took you back –
polished me to legions
down below
of fairytales
a few or more –
they hardly speak of now
how goats and three
they courted me
on southern nights
somewhere
camped beneath
the bridges
when reached to find you
here
saved the night
one frosty new year’s eve
gathered now
the early show –
open hearts and willing
to understand
the leaving you alone
could never see
the mystery – eyes your shade
of blue
mercury resolved
to more than mars
who is left
to pass us on –
from cradle to the current
kaleidescope
and no one knows we’re gone
a lifetime more
than when the telling
started –
truth I’ve known
some days I scarce recall
the oldest goat
your tender touch –
rocks within the wall
and how the map was folded
on the seat
fairytales
to wonder me –
what of love is carried –
dare I cut the vines
and burn my hair
. . .

poppies grew
one august –
flush against the barn
and someone said
they saw a man
asleep out on the lawn
were whispers
from the kitchen –
tho no one held the proof
of where the stories
started –
while searching
for the truth
a busted fence
and thirty head
of cattle – more or less
babies crying
somewhere now –
for longing unconfessed
separate beds
and darkened rooms
places kept apart –
ten thousand miles
and eighteen steps
worn between their hearts
how many sorrows
offered
as ransom for a kiss
touch reserved for evermore
was never meant
for this
a slight of girl
to question –
how to know
when love was real –
would wonder
just how long the wait
for broken hearts
to heal
…

when auld langsyne
is played the night –
I wonder will you know
love holds not the hands of time
but ever is (just so)
in tiny ways
no one can say
for sure (how real) the proof
distance measured
(never long)
by reason bound in truth
when mornings come
ten thousand suns
and none the same (as this)
eternal as the place we are –
(immortal) as one kiss
take of years
and winters passed
as lifetimes to this day
forever but a witness
to moments (I shall stay)
as midnight falls
a silver ball –
into the sky (of dreams)
will tumble as a favored star
a light to smiles (unseen)
where lowly notes
of passion wrote
to friends (and loves) afar
as ever then
the now recalled
within each breath
(you are)
