believer

to stories
I’m a stranger –
to the ways of getting in
could never cut the vines
or burn the braids –
would sail
and never wonder
why the river took you back –
polished me to legions
down below

of fairytales
a few or more –
they hardly speak of now
how goats and three
they courted me
on southern nights
somewhere
camped beneath
the bridges
when reached to find you
here
saved the night
one frosty new year’s eve

gathered now
the early show –
open hearts and willing
to understand
the leaving you alone
could never see
the mystery – eyes your shade
of blue
mercury resolved
to more than mars

who is left
to pass us on –
from cradle to the current
kaleidescope
and no one knows we’re gone
a lifetime more
than when the telling
started –
truth I’ve known
some days I scarce recall

the oldest goat
your tender touch –
rocks within the wall
and how the map was folded
on the seat
fairytales
to wonder me –
what of love is carried –
dare I cut the vines
and burn my hair

. . .

wrapped in rain ~

come the early chill
of autumn
maple spurned by drying leaves –
there blossoms of december
sleep beneath
her mystery

come the blush of frost
a snowflake –
to seal the blessed earth
ageless as the rings
surrounding –
burned to black
her lowly birth

before the spring was made
to suffer
one more fall beyond our reach
sacred vow of consecration
wrapped in rain –
the willows breech

to stand before –
alone untethered
more by faith that one of time
seeks the truth
but knows its answer –
one more bud
to break the vine

beyond this fleeting
intuition –
hope for one more
warm embrace
before the sun concedes to shadow
cedars watch the night
for grace

waiting for when ~

wherever I was
I knew you were here –
illusion made sweeter
by longing and wind
breathed into being by places imagined
my soul was just waiting for when –

a change in the weather
a storm on the morning –
lights sworn to meet
somewhere down the road
forgotten the nothing
was there before heaven
something worth having
– was just past the sun

for only a moment
(tho nobody noticed)
making our way to eternity’s shore
but lost to the route
we had taken (together) –
the tides we were moving
to oceans below
the dream of returning
to know you again

for another –
a glimpse
of a far-away comet
moving much slower in search of a star
would never be lost
or sworn to remembrance
when the reasons
were come –
the night fell away

discovered as stones
smoothed by the waters
how natural their love for the sand –
surrounded by diamonds
coral and snowflakes
daydreams
of warm afternoons
and another time painted
in shades of forever
ripples of purple
turned green by the light

were curled
as a ribbon
and kept ‘neath the bed

moonlight
and mystery –
ten thousand legions
lives separated by promise
to come
across this abyss
to the place we were started
another sun burning –
two flames into one

mother of life ~

love was the message
of goddess to flora
a poem to wrap with the essence
of green
longing for comfort –
lakota lay silent
and swore there was purpose
the rest would believe

take me
to make me
the same as your sorrows
ride me at morning
to the plains of mombai
burn me to memory
of buffalo graces
the language of hope
forgiven us now

of long ago breezes
winds surely shifting
forgotten my name
as the lines blew away ~
people and colors
civilizations
eternity grieves
my vision of home

Author’s Note ~

In 1994, a white buffalo calf was born on a farm in Wisconsin. . .
the first white buffalo born in decades.

Some believe she was the fulfillment of the prophecy that the return of
the White Buffalo Calf Woman will herald the advent of an age of peace and harmony.

Now, more than any time in history, we need the sacred feminine to balance
our lives and to balance our world.  We must be spiritual warriors – culling
the profound and important aspects of the power of feminine wisdom
and directing them toward peace within, as without, and utilizing the energies
of the goddess and all mythical women and spiritual heroines
to help direct the course of history.
