of fates undecided
by the moons
of july –
and wishes where
waters we flowed –
backwards returning
and further yet
north –
a frozen reminder
of time passing on

forgotten
the reasons –
for every misstep
and paths without conscious
to lure us away
as prophets forsaken
by promise to love –
for boots
and a bible –
was heaven betrayed

who’s to know
who would listen
were the world
made to hear –
and sworn for release
was music
to make

of another I knew
a truth almost gone
and a flame more
than dark could recall
a whisper dissolved
on the hope of a sigh
and worried
not far –
for the coming
again

I’ve known you awhile
more than nights
without name
or stories I’m sure
to remember –
swirls within letters
beauty disguised –
loops became lust
became love

sweet recognition
of times here before
turning of seasons
with nothing to lose –
reminders
how easy
was loving to breathe –
retelling of stories
once written
of you

remembering to be ~

float
within these ethers
wake beyond this night –
to places where your name
is hardly known
where stories
of your coming
have not yet found the page
scripture without word
to touch the soul

steal beyond this moment
of remembering
your love –
flowers yet are blossomed
gardens great
grieved to weed
and held by vine –
let be and I shall find
souvenirs where passing
once you grew

message of surrender
tell them all for why you came
and I shall bare the truth
within my own –
voice of something truer
than music you
deny –

lean into the melody
become a violin

silently
as ancient breeze –
move against these chords
raise the softest hair
with verses sweet
memories of other times
whispers came to bloom –

lilac breathed into
the golden light

of moments
slowed becoming –
as the rising of the sun
ripples spread
to circles
left of dew

was destiny
forgiven –
to the places
I have come
as those to keep aside
with names I love

of frightened birds
forsaken flight –
dark where tears reside
daughters dream
in storybook of lives
they never had

silent as a sin
confessed
of memory set free
and with my own
in heart –
their song to beat

sleep again
in stillness
where innocence befalls
as feathers scored
against a sudden moon

tumble
with divine reproach
longing to the sun
dreaming still the night
of wings on fire

. . .

give me to blue jeans
jasper and jasmine
tiny white pearls weaved into thread –
storied collection
of people and places
someone I miss
was somebody said

of boys and their business
pretention of men
and swore they could be
what they were in my eyes
angels (and demons)
traded a lifetime
of moments
and secrets
and sighs

breathe of the pages
the sweet smell of paper
rhyme
where there never was rhyme
flight resurrected
from limestone and sparrow
was heaven made whole –
these pieces of time

forgiven myself
for acts of transgression
felt something more
than the warm rise of breath
old silver coins
float in the fountain –
eternity more
than a strange
little death

spare me to words
gifts of forever –
are written to places
of cotton and steel
get me to home
while the crops are still standing
let me down easy
the stories are real

so still ~

as I was
I am still –
were a dream
and I made real
come this moment
start me clean
take of naught
the hurts unseen

of forgiveness –
right from wrong
psalms unread
redemptions song

fold such tenderness
around –
breath to breath
as loving bound
of yes and then
another will
this truth become
as love revealed

of this no more
than love I give
as I was once –
so still
I live
…

as I will ~

of places becoming
the long way to home –
and a time of reflection
wherever I’m gone
more than these
I have nothing –
nothing more than of words
and hands to make heaven
a voice to be heard

of stories
retelling
of reasons to know
what I’ve sworn to remember –
was a grace to let go
give the world
of my riches
for the poor shall be paid
from the life I was making
when the clouds slipped
away

I shall wake
as another
one day not so long –
and right what was written
to save what was wrong

give me land
give me orchards –
let me fall
as I will –
as a stone to the waters
some other to fill

as a chorus
where angels
are come to delight –
a thought still becoming
as skin burned to light
I shall know
when each sorrow
falls new to the ground –
as love is returned
and makes
not a sound

a sudden bloom
of autumn brushes –
silver ribbon wrapped
the blue
was pulled atop
my morning stutter –
bled my heart
with thoughts of you

pulled aside
the muddy shoulder
watched as life went streaming by
held for years
the need for saying
let me go –
or let me fly

take of these
these fragile pretties –
something more
beyond the rise
gypsy moon
and blackbird switches –
thorns grown over
sweet goodbyes

prop the window
up with promise –
drifting past
the place once knew
eighteen shades of red
to sunday –
somewhere now
they grieve the truth

bible verses
tattooed scripture –
rings my wrist
reminders still
of where the perfume
crossed my longing –
drunken skin –
impatient will

stolen clovers
luck for nothing –
crushed beneath my naked toes
searching signs
a black horizon –
start the wind
and let me go

…

becoming, bliss, closer to home, dreams, faith, fearless, forgiveness, grace, gravel roads, kentucky, life, love, nature, old maps, passion, restless, spirit, strength, truth, understanding, wandering

soft as the sound
of secrets unsettled
pushed through the needles
(much thicker than most)
and sank as the road
turning from asphalt –
to gravel – to dust
into green

bent down by waiting
and pressed to the edges
memory swept to the river
like change from the bar
(ash from the smoker)
remnants of habit
circles made scarce

as light switched to flame
in passing my window –
and sat I too long
in the afternoon sun
still in this grace
of missing confessions
a warmth as familiar
as swords through the pines
held to the corners
another night’s quilt

planets take shape
in the wish of forever
was given us paths
uintended to show
of touching (so tender)
the light hardly noticed
were stories retracing
the lines of my soul

a pardon of needles
ten thousand much more
than the one of before
when we laid here the night –
forgotten to maps
our returning

as light streams
the forest with colors
to secret –
and rivers run closer
to home

…

not for slumber ~

get me back
before the morning
falls unnoticed to the lawn
e’er these dreams
resolve to keep me
to the places I’ve become

get me back
before the sunrise
set my feet on firmer ground
leave your essence
to remind me
of another solace found

get me back
tho I grow weary –
not for sleep my body aches
not for slumber
I’ve been missing –
would my senses lie awake

get me back
get me something
more than all
one moment holds –
every image made of heaven
stretched to fit
as love unfolds

get me back
I’ll be waiting
in the places you abide –
beyond the reaches
of forever
I’ll be waiting
with the night

get me back
before the leaving –
lest the daylight find me gone
counting everafter hours
come to sleep
upon the lawn

. . .

worth to confess ~

becoming, death, faith, forgiveness, grace, gravel roads, life, love, old maps, postmark, reason, spirit, truth, understanding, wandering, wisdom

sweet the bough breaks
as innocence falls
as stillness asleep on the snow
cradled in arms
of once half asleep
and rocked as a baby
the whole world to know

the road back
the way come –
and who are we now
where is the place
we’ve come to endear
when darkness tugs hard
at the shadows of life
and all we have left
is the weight
of our tears

forgiven the promise
to never let go
to choose without choosing
our truth to profess
but once in the deep
a pounding so close
and moments no longer
with worth
to confess

of innocence lost
by the side of the bed
nightmares recover the worst
slept not in places
turned us away –
a smile in the mirror
for ignorance cursed

so heavy the burden
of taking no side
never noticed the faraway spark
eyes grown accustomed
to living a lie –
were changing our view
of the dark

til there in the quiet
a thought not erased
by signs of forgiveness –
the existence
of grace –
a well-worn transgression –
that nobody knows
when fell from the cedars
as a name
to the snow

In softest memorial ~
