going

of worth
I have no season
no story left to tell
of roads I walked –
of lives beyond the veil
of streets
unnamed to history
a touch
recalls me still
where all I’ve known
of loving is revealed
into the page
where shadows fall
night birds weep and storm
into the swell where black
the locust swarm
with memory
of where I lay
and secrets I embraced
flannel sheets
are forests wrapped in lace
as once I was
remembered me
for reasons I’m not sure
kept within the circles
ancient sight
mystery of passion –
my wilderness afire
wings are raised
immortal to the night

. . .

Author’s Note: I’ve spent many a day
in search of an image for this, and have none to
show.  Only this.  Close your eyes – yes, that’s
the one.

. . .

such as this ~

rememberingme

beyond this sun
another wakes
with memory of the first
 – of ancient moons
made sweeter
by my thirst

beyond this light
a brighter way
than e’er I passed before
is kept awake
 – my dreams
of dreaming more

than once again
my love concedes
to plead
my case anew
reminders of a life
before I knew

returned by breath
a kinder truth
   than e’er my soul resist
  – beginning life
eternal
 from moments
such as this

. . .

moments (yet) ~

fleeting

were moments
to awaken –
your voice upon my skin
as secrets
whispered low –
became my light

flush against
the almost life –
of somewhere
love awaiting
hands to touch –
words we lost that day

broken verse
as sunlight traveled –
caught by falling angels
shadows passed
to shadow –
one we’ll be

held aside
for reasons –
longing knows too well
light recalls
the sweetest night
– lifetimes
loving so

wherestill

how tender
my returning –
a dreamer to the end
narrow ways
go dark
before the dawn
wielded me another truth
story holding still
weary grace
within my silence sits

calm
against the clawing
as ringing now
the bell
tho somewhere I am come
in search of light –
suffering a shadow
raked into the fields –
blazing red in grief
for winter golds

marry me
before I say
will be my last surrender
a garden of intent
is wilted there
cut the vines and lean the fence
near to worlds
of waiting –
as light to pierce
the only name
I wear

. . .

part of all we knew ~

still

beyond the mossy comfort
of tear-stained I love yous
leaving settles
cold against the night
hands to fold in reverance
for moments come before
hearts are made to ache
the soul’s delight

how it is
the whole becomes
a part of all we knew –
stripped to bare
our reason for remorse
angels watch while lonely mourns
whispers born of bliss
sorrow keeps a plate
of fortunes sworn

the ways to know
of all we lose –
much the more we keep
as dreams resolve a heaven
we know best
sleeps beside the willows
rattles now the winds –
love returns to soothe
our restlessness

falling forward
somewhere else –
leaned into the fold
as there the names remember
us again
lonely needs no lesson
of where we passed the time
or voices ringing silent
o’er the bed

borders ~

knowing

my love
let me become your ghost
a trace more discreet
than your warm shadow
let me follow you
over continents
deserted by human tears
shorelines beyond this solitary happiness
let me grow old agelessly
within the lifetime
of your images
that decorate my favored dreams
there in your eyes
the past looms forever hesitant
and in my undesired freedom
I will sing
of mourning the borders
of love’s embrace
if tomorrow
you stop loving me

Stillness speaks in words
I seldom hear
candles burn – scented yesterday.
The sweetest night was past
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed.
But silence knows the song
I sing –
barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze –
closer to forever than the stars.

Was once confessed but met
with disbelief;
we’ve forgotten what it means to dream.
Caught in papers – there the evening news;
everything (and nothing) as it seems.
But I’ve discovered
hope in discontent,
moments found me lucid (eyelids closed).
Simple prayers I never spoke aloud
are whispered soft –
communion, no one knows.

From silver wings
that flicker on the lawn
past the purple glow of Al Jabba,
I’ve met ten thousand more
that have no names –
history betrayed their moment’s mark.
But for the dreamer,
once had walked alone
another shining moment we forgot –
caught in memory
and written there
time may have forsaken,
but we have not.

Between the ticks of ten and two,
all I am is come for me.
Twilight pulls the mortal world to bed,
and I pretend to let
the veil of slumber fall around
were only I so willing to
be led.
Would pass between the shadows
cast by misery and want
would rest and wake tomorrow —
nothing strange.
Complacency is petals wept
before the blackest swan;
hands are stopped –
eternity is changed.

And there, across the table
a familiar face,
eyes are met with knowledge
of the truth.
Presence finds assurance
in the noonday sun –
coincidence, a world denied the proof.
A fleeting smile, a knowing laugh,
secrets shared by strangers
candles burn – scented yesterday.
The sweetest night was past
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed.

Silence knows the song
I sing
barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze,
closer to forever than the stars.

Closer to forever
than the stars.

somewherestill

as far
from my memory –
a you I don’t know
is willed into life
by the lure of a flame
wrapped in illusion
of a touch long ago –
moments
no longer the same

as a partial
remembrance –
of lives passed away
love we were hoping to keep
one more day –
folded as pages
to yesterday’s dream
margins
surely to fade

saving for none
the promise of more
than a once
curs’ed vapor –
left burning before
in the recess of always
where names
have been lost –

a time
before taking
of breath
we forgot

. . .

tales of one more season ~

september2012

for moments yet
becoming –
an early morning dew
as last year’s rain
before the crops came in
memories of something more
time and roads
retraveled
– the ways to you
remembered
by the wind

letting go
as I have known –
forsaken now to listen
bells are ringing somewhere –
I can hear
water falling –
lifetimes left
I promised once to find
– a place beyond the night
I hold you near

were it so
the past is not
with tales
of one more season –
years have passed
and still love wakes my bones
surrender claims
the deepest sleep
walls of purple paper –
one more sin
for living to atone

likethis
would birth
be absolved
 by the passing between
or dying held fault
for the slipping away
moments becoming –
as stars to the dark
where hearts
held in secret
are gathered to grace

lingered in loving –
with purpose of life
as ashes to twilight
forgotten to fall
thru ribbons of scarlet
purple and maize
– and held as a passion
forgiving of all

a breathless confession
of moments too few
when promised forever
with all we hold dear
weaved to the soul
by pieces of light –
and waited as every goodbye
disappeared

awash in a river
unnoticed by time –
 and swept by a memory
of night into day
no matter the measure
to lives lived between
or how far the first time
I held you
this way

. . .
