the first to go –
the last to linger
faces
places
blur the line
eyes rolled back
and there the future –
consequence
of love’s design

dimestore pearls
and easy does it
spend the last
of me to go
somewhere down the way
of searching –
time will prove
you told me so

I’ll be fine
no cause to worry
dare I leave the night ajar
one more step
from here to never
given push –
one time too far

blackened beaks
and silver rudders
destiny denied to form
close as some
the shadow spirals
reason rides before
the storm

what is it now
your longing heeds –
chasing milk with whiskey
seen me ’round –
in places I have been

another me
to lost haiku
three five three
no more –
a passing through of wisdoms
alignment with your core

stall the dreams
to feed your story
something someone said
of times you might have waited here
eight long nights
in bed

one more loss
to bust the hinges –
take the night but spare the blame
come the one to know your purpose
as sworn by fate
to wear your name

four more times
ten thousand reasons –
planets split the night with care
tell them all
you wondered far –
forgotten why you tarried
paths don’t seem the same
without me there

remember me
to empty arms –
an ember of belonging
places reconstructed by the light
remember these
of mysteries –
awaited your divine
petals opened now
will never close

remember me
the dapple sun –
as folded to her rising
the memory of raindrops
on the lawn
garner me
a time to tell –
promises forgotten
of breath returned in secret
blue within the smoke

remember me
as ink professed –
chapters now fulfilling
markers where the end was meant to be
carry love
as autumn crops –
harvest for the journey
a winter not yet satisfied
of snowflakes
gathering

remember me
of falling down –
and evenings spooled with grace
of slow unwinds
beneath the pines –
to bring me back this way
remember us –
to evermore
was there we first began
with hope for one more season
to every might have been

remember me –
the summer storm
of winter
to the trees

north was south ~

the pages
so much fuller now
than e’er my pen could say
and rhyme makes nothing much of sense
before I pull away
tho I for one
without the words
to tell you what that means
I’ll write it down
and leave it as a message
to your dreams

when bent to fate
we made a place –
no one dared believe
would make it through the coming back
another time to leave
as none so sure
the ways to go or when we’d wander home –
north was south
and south intent on letting
love alone

of redbud rest
and night bird nests –
pancakes rolled in butter
and all day long to sit
against the sun
married once
and let it be
the place for coming quickly –
begged me let forever sleep
in faded cotton gowns

of other times
a photograph or two
I cannot find –
black and white are pasted
in the space between the lines
with none to know
so few can tell –
of meant to be just right
as fingers trace
the softest grey –
eyes to hold me tight

I’ll take my chance
and stay the night –
wrapped in silence still
held beneath the rafters
with truth
beyond our will
forgotten every warning
bet you knew my ways
back then –

words were never given us
a place to pass again

only ~

had I thought
to this day –
of every life passed between
some were rivers
some were mountains –
some (remembered as) dreams

had I known
(what I know)
when reflecting the truth
when swore to the darkness
the light would wear through

at the end
(of returning)
at the last we shall know
what was real
what was nothing –
what is left (letting go)

had I heard
you were coming –
(made the best of my time)
might have slept through the winter –
every season divine

had I loved
(only you)
of all I have held –
might these moments
be heaven enough
were there pause to remember
the first time we met –
my life (but a shadow)
to the memory of love

as letters unopened
left on my pillow
remembered of days yet to come
told of a mystery
few could imagine –
and where I might go
when living
was done

of sorrow rewritten
and lessons unveiled –
by the passing of stars
on a parallel flight
provision of destinies
fate realigned
to the way of the wanderer
burst into light

to wings
where the sparrow
was spared by the blue
and brushed into essence
of one sacred will –
crossed into places
unknown yet by some
becoming the more
of eternity still

sweet this submission
as love we become –
people
and places somewhere
touch I can almost remember
a name –
warms to my thought
as truth unaware

of moments
unguarded
dreams drift apart –
as shadows succumb
to the night where I lay
there in the hush
of destinies deep –
I write now the letters
you left yesterday

of fates undecided
by the moons
of july –
and wishes where
waters we flowed –
backwards returning
and further yet
north –
a frozen reminder
of time passing on

forgotten
the reasons –
for every misstep
and paths without conscious
to lure us away
as prophets forsaken
by promise to love –
for boots
and a bible –
was heaven betrayed

who’s to know
who would listen
were the world
made to hear –
and sworn for release
was music
to make

of another I knew
a truth almost gone
and a flame more
than dark could recall
a whisper dissolved
on the hope of a sigh
and worried
not far –
for the coming
again

I’ve known you awhile
more than nights
without name
or stories I’m sure
to remember –
swirls within letters
beauty disguised –
loops became lust
became love

sweet recognition
of times here before
turning of seasons
with nothing to lose –
reminders
how easy
was loving to breathe –
retelling of stories
once written
of you

float
within these ethers
wake beyond this night –
to places where your name
is hardly known
where stories
of your coming
have not yet found the page
scripture without word
to touch the soul

steal beyond this moment
of remembering
your love –
flowers yet are blossomed
gardens great
grieved to weed
and held by vine –
let be and I shall find
souvenirs where passing
once you grew

message of surrender
tell them all for why you came
and I shall bare the truth
within my own –
voice of something truer
than music you
deny –

lean into the melody
become a violin

silently
as ancient breeze –
move against these chords
raise the softest hair
with verses sweet
memories of other times
whispers came to bloom –

lilac breathed into
the golden light

of moments
slowed becoming –
as the rising of the sun
ripples spread
to circles
left of dew

was destiny
forgiven –
to the places
I have come
as those to keep aside
with names I love

of frightened birds
forsaken flight –
dark where tears reside
daughters dream
in storybook of lives
they never had

silent as a sin
confessed
of memory set free
and with my own
in heart –
their song to beat

sleep again
in stillness
where innocence befalls
as feathers scored
against a sudden moon

tumble
with divine reproach
longing to the sun
dreaming still the night
of wings on fire

this bliss ~

still
as a moment
pressed into light
a sigh
then another
let go

slow
as the beating
of locust to storm
and honey the bee
shall become

sweet
as remembered
bursting to song
and words
without reason
to stay

soft
as the whisper
of breath to my skin
where pleasing
the morning shall lay

fearless
falling –
breast to the blue
held to the clouds
by my soul

touch
and I’m one
with the essence
of life
as spirit finds wing
on the wind
