grieve not
the last blue blade
of Kentucky
as years
where the rain fell upon
the reasons for staying
outnumber the stars
– weight to the heart
unconfessed

by the saying aloud
a giving to name
of ways now grown over
as one time I knew –
was proof of the falling
when all that was left
was an echo of days
gone between

breathing
returns me –
as seasons to home
will sit me a sun
at the edge of the sky
pastures made new
by the burning away
– rivers made wild
by our tears

I’ve made over –
some return in dreams –
still within
this anguished heart reside
flush against the starting
caught in letting go

in darkness
once I wished for –
a star
and I became
a fading light
a siren to the black

fragile as a message
tilted to the sky
a lesson of forgiveness
willing came
north upon
an ancient sea –
carried just this way
across the time
where once I knew
your name

a whispered hallelujah
as prayer
betrayed my knees
arms unfolded
answers to the veil
saved for me
a one more time –
breathless dawn to ease
to wash upon my days
in thoughts of you

seasons past
our falling –
heaven glows the same
leaves are drawing
angels on the trees

as one became
with longing –
and leaned into the light
was come before the dawn
to know me here
wrapped in quilts
of yestermore –
dreaming somewhere still
pressed against
the memory of a sigh

come to song
in silence sweet –
notes along the road
crest beneath
the sleeping blossoms there
sparkle as a moment once
reached beyond
the stars –
to gather our
reflection to the sun

here –
tho I can’t tell you why
or where the moon
is hiding –
a story yet untold
by tangled sheets
leave the realms of darkness
journey now to dream –
I’ll leave the window open
lest you stay

sweet to my swaying
come home to my wine –
a long way
forever
I can’t seem
to find
the note that you left
to the places
we lay –
would save us another
for falling away
surrendered
one sunday –
as secrets retold
to lie awake monday
with dreams taking hold
couldn’t be
what’s the matter –
can’t you see I don’t care
what of hurts
were just waiting –
a silence to share
as lifetimes made over
in moments of bliss
a note said you’re going
my touch
said you’d miss
a beginning just started
is waiting – who knows
what love
never mentioned
– is rain
to your soul

I can’t understand
of winter come clean
in light

a shimmering moths

forgotten
the senusuous pull
of the flame
– and reason
the colors of pewter
and smoke
silken illusion
of places we loved
are folded by word
to the edges of night

red scarlet letters
lean toward the maker –
as folded their heat
to songs

graces made easy

where tenderness
waits our confession
of night

along –

tho never clear
(or spoke aloud) –
as words our trust forbade
crossed the heart

forevermore

for moments
(this) so precious few
eternities stood wait
as gardens wilted
(one more time)
the bloom
of heaven’s gate

let go for none
or sink to hide –
as tender places still
remembered now
the ways of love –
were destiny (fulfilled)

as ashes melt
an even tide –
or dodge the churning reef
where clings
to sands immortal –
our fainting disbelief

were souls
to find redemption –
a path
already known
life (beyond the one we live)
shall bear us

found before
some other rhyme –
words I knew by heart
tho years have passed
to somewhere
long ago –
held to you my heaven
another line to pen
stars would watch
and wonder –
what we know

save for me
I worry still
of paths you must have taken
drove into a night
beyond my grasp –
never once the taking back
how were you
to find me –
held apart by pieces
some old map –

a promise
to remember
when everything went bad
you’d know my name
a season unrehearsed
papers scattered everywhere
reminders once we were
found a place
within the lines –
a verse

whisper now
so none can hear –
let me feel your stutter
a longing let to loose
upon the wind
dry your tears
and I’ll dry mine –
with faith to cry another
worlds beyond
this falling –
somewhere we
begin
