soonenough

were the waters
still
and clearly –
my symentry undone
stones once thrown
as ripples now
are come

reminding me
of faraways
and seasons I was able
to hold you
one last breath
beneath the wake

as winds
defy my mem’ry
storming now the gate
pushed against my door
to let you in

where lies
an everafter –
 of moments
held in place

when swore our hearts to stay
beyond the reach

of destinies
– forgotten now
we write their will anew
rocks are thrown
– and still I hear
 the sea

. . .

(I thought) I knew ~

holdmehere

names have come
(more often)
to places
without none
dreams I never dreamed
would come (undone)
patchwork of the living
the coffee has grown cold –
as destinies (foretelling)
long ago

to wonder
(as I’m known to do)
where and when
and whether
the path was come
as (fated) – I to choose

the ways before
and all at once
familiar I am finding –
reflection
of a light
(I thought) I knew

here –
have you forgotten
the color of my eyes –
places (I am still)
I loved you so
long before the wondering
got the best of me
you were come –
(remembering
my soul)

. . .

rise me gently ~

rise me

secrets wear
the story long
and there my purpose known
as quiet moves
these sleepless bones
to write

sacred
as repentance held
lips still wet with prayer
as silence wraps
forgiveness ‘round
the night

as blush the morn
becoming new
a refuge to my soul
constellations
never were so bright

the sun
shall rise me gently
as wings above the flame
a tremor held in place
against the light

dreams
almost forgotten
are gathered on the lawn
longing wills my whisper
into flight

. . .

without the ache ~

richerme

before
and still
the shadows come
to grace familiar light
as fragile once was fallen
from the sky

pled apart
for grieving –
one for me and naught
the twilight paled
as slumber questioned why

awake for me
the longing –
was left by touch divine
as sacred now the pleading
slip away

carry me
marry me
doubt me not tomorrow
another sun shall break
against the pain

willows lean
into the cause –
without the ache complaining
somewhere near are sparrows
turning home

tethered by a promise
almost
not forgotten
there shall be
my welcome back –
to find this way
alone

. . .

something more to dream ~

hometome

across
into
ten million miles
wing’ed lovers fly
eager as the pull
to home –
of once familiar skies

never knew
the way –
never felt the same
was something more to dream
to love
as I was loving you –
every mile between

as memory
committed now –
to feel what is your song
the weathered beat
of rhyme
is versed – equaled
by
my own

as thunder
rushed from lightning
falling back in time
the universe has made
a place –
for leaving words
behind

. . .

one to change it all ~

whereverIam

were our story
without ending –
the road would lead us on
forgotten not the turning
or the fall
reminders of eternity
wink and they’ll be gone
hands to hold –
and one to change
it all

eighty years
or sometimes ten –
a garden loved by thorns
a rusty metal rocker
hides the shade
baskets stained by picking
weeds to bind the fence
bees are telling
every plan
we made

a worn out
sunday prophet –
folds his bible near
tho none can read the name
it used to hold
leather bound by promise –
love would get us through
trees are bending
double
in the cold

I been down
and got back up –
to know
(I know) of love
of seasons undecided
by the light
of passing into paradise
to live beyond these days
gardens yield for tending –
somewhere sweet
tonight

. . .

illusion of warmth ~

once

faultless
to leave me
the winter you loved –
is kept with a quilt in the barn
tho sometimes
I carry it –
home for the night
and sit for a spell
with your warmth

as lingered in moments
scraps of haiku –
verses spilled over
at the end of the day
was your favorite
peaches –
blueberry knew
of a time worth repeating
yet the same –
fell away

of leaving
I won’t get to ask you
another –
or when you’ll return
I’d watch way too long
for a star on the meadow –
of autumn come sweet
I’d forget
we were missing –
to dance
without song

as comforts
there aren’t many left to recall
the orchard since lost
to the passing of time
stories remain
of places
I am –
verses unhinged
by the absence
of rhyme

like the chill
of september –
a promise made true
stored with the others
the box barely holds
every piece
of my aching –
every blessing unwrapped
longing reminded –
how tender
the fold

. . .

for your taking ~

lastyouknew

forsaken the fence
the twice broken steps
– eyes peeking up from beneath
memory loosed
by the passing of time
clothesline
and thimbles –
blessings bequeathed

by a hand
taking hold
a back nearly bent
by gardens run over by weed
nights held to secret
as the bible brought down
– forgiven to wander
as verses decreed

I’ll know
will you know me –
as was then I’ve become
for your taking –
how far from here gone
will grace foreshadow
where whispers remain
or roads be reminded
another way
home

the last I was passing
some years
almost now –
forgiven of burdens
some stranger took in
held me for keeping
I barely recall –
tho you knew
of my wander
to find you again

as a place
in the woods
once we slept
with the stars
and made of their fortunes
a story of grace
paths rarely journeyed –
you gave every one
as truth coming down –
heaven displaced

by the hone
of my beating
were there more – yet the same
as names given honor
in still silent prayer
fueled by a memory
of old crooked boards
– might I wake
in my slumber
to follow you there

. . .

familiarsun

will
that once I knew
to understand the want
forgiven every longing
of my soul
counted thrice
this evermore
whatever love shall take
beyond the night
another hand I hold

sure
this slow acceptance
of all I’m meant to find
gathered sparrows
flock an empty place
tis there
my heart remembers –
reasons for the loss
glories claim a lowly call
for grace

ten thousand more
as I shall go –
with worry not for crying
lights to burn –
embers glowing black
memory remains of me
roads of vein and story
will survives
the coldest –
spring of welcome back

. . .

unremembered ~

surrenderme

in pools
of Sunday morning tears
light is bent to will –
souls are met
across this sweet divide
as one to place remembered
how I knew you then
I was lost
and you were at
my side

as longing –
there the winter rests
a lonely twilight grieves
silent as the dew
to wonder how –
eternity returns us
webs of lacey lace
the soul awake for hearing
each whispering of now

of graces
I’ve not many –
but faith to understand
as somewhere still
they wait my coming home
boards worn thru
by worry –
wicks so very low
winds recalled to carry me
by every name
I’m known

. . .
