. . .

silver blue stems
merge with the shadows
of twisted white branches
morning decides
the flight of the heron
from dust recreated
 as places mistook
 when he shifted
to light

. . .

grace

for the first time ~

beyond

beyond
our remembrance
is another retraced
as we wander from dreams
– a thought out of place

forgotten the reasons
to go
as we came –
through the dark
as a light
without presence
or name

beyond
this desire
to become as we will –
some faint recognition
of where we have been
keeps us here
in the moment
we listen – we love

we learn
and pour to the way
of our soul –
crumbs in the shape
of warm golden sands
a reminder
to remember
when we pass here again

to touch
for the first time
these sorrows so sweet
of moments –
but one
moment more

beyond
this beginning
another we know
is writ
to the chapters –
our story retold
in a living of choices
a chance pulled away

paths
where another
has been

shimmers in shadows
familiar somehow
– as the hum
of our silence
when slipped past
the night

. . .

rainbows ~

beyond the scars
of venus –
I find you there each night
beneath the pines
along some silver shore
wearing names
I never knew –
(cept for one I keep)
 there we live
 as there we love
the more

for every life
was passed between
for every word unsaid
tides are breaking –
echoes spill the dark
as comfort o’er the longing
for one more day (or two)
leaves are falling
(rainbows)
 souls into the light

beyond and still
within this realm
where dreaming (my embrace)
time is but a fleeting
thought to be
guarded by my pillow
worn the blankets mute –
cedars rise
(as altars) to the sea

of sweet abode
(o tender mine)
tis not so far away
could measure less
the countless times I’ve known
recalled to life
another there –
beyond the reach of tides
stars (forgot to shining)
still carry me
to home

. . .

from here ~

from here

from the first
I knew of loving –
was a truth
I swore to find
cowboy boots
and hand me down
sheets hung on the line

amazing grace
and one more taste
of night
before the dawn
promise poured to places
rarely seen
finger painted fortunes
prophets tell about –
heaven waits confession
of our dreams

a star or two
you never knew –
the universe from here
come the flame
I know by name
when nights are cold
and clear

melody of mandolins
as fireflies are spilled
– lanterns
glowing gold above the fields
wishes made
for more than time –
mapping worlds beyond
a compass pointing
gently to our need

take my hand
the water’s cold
the rocks just close enough
to memorize creation
in a fallen
constellation

– as seekers trace
the light to know
our love
…

the same as I ~

estranged

across
into this southern still
wherein the last wild goose
has flown –
stretched against the beating drum
distance melts to psalm
played again
on northern flutes
and meant to save
us all

alone
to pen these letters few
will speak of all I know
ancients leaving feathers
on the lawn
whistle as the lessons fall
eager to the rise
stories there
where graces come to word –
memories are stirred
the same as I

steady
as the twilight
perched upon the fence
watches past the time
where life begins to never end
sweeps to reams of maple
every mention
of goodbye –
lullabys we never knew
echo through the dark

rapture wrapped in arms
of evergreen

. . .

wishes blown ~

together gone

almost gone
the clover died
in one last dream
of heaven
and wrapped his chilly legs
around a sigh

waiting
as the autumn winds
were blown across his cap
and dried into
a fated hesitation

of one more time
of wishes blown
summer to his side
and gathered round his wools
for wandering

left to lie
in pastures
where the cattle know
his name –
stars are set
into the face of god

. . .

slow me
 butterflies
who lived to love
the trees of mexicali –
are floating now
the appalachian trail

stronger winds
are blowing
northern candles west –
as southern nights
 are pushed against
the dawn

rivers rush
beyond their fame
black the velvet feathers
are found beyond
the memories of stone

twilight winks
 above the tides
where once a culture crumbled
sands are set
again
by ancient hands

…

yet (and still) ~

yet and still

breathe
you said –
just close your eyes
– wrap your love
in mine
linger now in places
we’ve become
a blessedness
that needs not work
or words of understanding
so we are –
revealing us as one

slow
you said –
and even now
reminded I to breathe
as life
constrained to verses –
curs’ed rhyme
has searched me out
with empty hands
this heart where still you know –
changed the locks
but let the windows
swing

still
you said –
and such I am
made sweeter for the ways
– for paths I walked
barefoot and alone
decide for me a destiny
would test my faith
to fall
to close my eyes –
with reason here
to fly

love
you said –

. . .

never far ~

of meadows

made longing
the ways (never far)
through the winds
o’er the seas –
to wherever
you are

one moment
a lifetime –
maybe three
(I don’t care)
were the journey
forever –
in finding
you there

in the song
of a cricket –
the nightbird’s reply
has given me faith –
in your sweet
lullaby

e’er the soul
be reminded –
of another I knew
a truth not forsaken
in my waiting
for you

. . .

day into night into day

grace to bend

let me not
an ending be –
or seams sewn taught
by time
let me not
the blossom –
without thorn

as dust pervades
a polished floor
with imprints of the past
bless’ed soul
– this calling out
to be

keep me not
afraid to fall –
til all have felt my ache
as voices roll
beside me
in the dark

grant me not
a place forgot –
but shining brighter still
for those who fell
another day –
my brokenness
to heal

let me not
forgiveness save
within my eager breast
or kisses
tainted lies –
I shall not give
this longing rest

let me not
when time is gone
be haunted by regret
would seal within
my grieving –
gratefulness

hymns where none
are playing –
light beyond this light
if e’er my love
be finished –
I am none
