faith, finally, heaven here, home, life, love, memory, patience, time

heaven was never
so real
she confessed
one morning when coffee
could hear
as she gazed past the windows
far past the gate
a pull from forever
as want fell away
she remembers how easy
how sweetly
his need –
a place she was saved
by his touch
heaven was never
this dearly imagined
warm as the sun
in september
we loved

falling, fear, life, love, time, truth

from this
forever falls
without regret
to intercede
doubt to play
fears to guarantee
a bitter end
was never meant
would make of us
a fault
were love the
righteous choice
to risk it
all

left to love ~

a little life, dreams, fate, gifted, life, love, promise, surrender, time, truth

however long
forever
saved itself for thee
to learn again
the depths
where love was fated
come for me
and i for you
i for this
when years were long
and cold
i dreamed beyond
the reach of dreams –
beyond the weight
of woe
lest prayers revive
the wonder
of more than once
enough
time is resurrected
by a promise
left to love

were there
another
much like this
days where darkness stood
years when not a word
was made to breath –
i was yours
if nothing else
i remember yet
the same
as moonlight
through broken shards of pine
as dawn
against a canyon wall
this i carry still
the ways to home
a map
within my soul
were there another
i was waiting
for your lips
against my own
for a morning bright with dew
you would come
were there a time
before i dreamed
a light before
was made
eternity
stretched
the calm between

all we've known to love

there’s a point
where words have no memory
no rush to confess
what was found
a fire burned sweet
petals retreat
retuned as a moment
eternity kept
apart from the sinner
devoid the saint
with only the heart
to remember

. . .

stirring ~

essence, home, life, love, real, self, time, truth

uncertain years
forgotten dreams –
who i am
i wonder
sometimes
i feel the stirring
of a heart to less denied
what truth i bear
to all i might have been
fondest of
leaves are falling
somewhere yet
i love

do you remember, kiss, life, love, memory, shadow, sometimes, stay, truth

take
of this
whatever you need
the blankets
the morning where coffee
is poured
where every scar
to the table
is mine –
a day when i judged
not the coming around
or the reason
the moments
you stay
pressed into shadow
whispered
i will
make of your kiss
a memory sweet
as any i dare
to remember

distance, finally, home, life, love, truth, waiting

had i days
a million more
– words
to stretch between
nights without
the need
or want to dream
storms to shake
the rafters
gold to press the morn
coffee resurrected
by your love
had i truth
beyond intention
lies i could not bear
so much of me
with nothing left
to share
til you were come
amazing
– a sun i failed to see
how sweet the ways
the distance
became of love
you gifted
me

. . .

smaller now ~

here, life, love, memory, moments, southern, time, trust

evening waits
in shadows
where once the orchard stood
i close my eyes
and granny calls
my name
another place
of just beyond
i’ll get there when i can
seems smaller now
weeds beneath
the boards
save me back
take me here –
wherever lives ten thousand
i’ve forgotten now
how i knew their ways
press your words
against my words –
your sigh
a mystery
breathe me home –
a map
of memories

. . .

Author’s Note: Sometimes I linger over words for no reason, so when I’m done (close enough), I read them aloud. If my hand finds my heart in the process, I know I’ve chosen well the words that can’t be said.

solve me now
this mystery
of where and why
you came
when years have passed
– no one speaks
my name
but out beyond
the cedars
far beyond the dark
twilight rains
and i become
your touch

something more
than everything
for something more
i prayed
would find my wanting
met –
some other day
while getting on
getting older
lest i grieve
a moment more
to learn the ways
you came for me –
to understand
how far

. . .
