once upon

when the summer path
has turned to rust –
and wingeds line the trees
– content to stir
as echoes
to the breeze

were times between
the golden glow –
the silver face of green
a lowly line
succumb to time –
is crossing us again

winter wheat
and dirty feet
were given to believe –
the autumn moon
was never meant
to tell –

april blossoms worried
as june bugs found july
waters rose
beyond the bank
to wash away
the night

moments
to the mayfly –
as secrets shared
with mars
venus wears her dresses
just the same –

age recalls
the coming back
miles of lonely tears –
whiskey warm in jelly jars
– wishes
by the well

spin me of another
some sweet day
to come –
the sound of naked feet
on
polished stone

the shrill of laughter
climbing –
timbers much too tall
than e’er we knew
would find us here

– and will us back
to home

getting ready

in the quietly unfolding
vanilla satin wings –
where shutters made of music
bang the porch
leaning in (as leaning does)
just before the fall
of breath into beginning
us again

in the rhythm of remember
a poem stirs awake –
counting now the verses
(one by one)
measured by the silent steps
from one end to the other
lives restored
as lanterns barely burned

forever stops to witness
graces undeclared
patches sewn together
(in the dark)
leaving spared another day
for smiles without the taking
was here we learned
to love –
here we stay

Calla

gather not
my east approach
or sink to swells this longing
as once became
within a veil of grace
swept beneath
a battered cross
washed away to sorrow
tears were seeds
to lily

let them bloom

kisses more ~

wanderings

wait for me
much longer –
than now the story is
when life became
much harder to resist
ten thousand games
another name
decided from the start
when I was queen
and you –
the king of hearts

built our dreams
from make believe –
one telling at a time
feathers bent to walls
and kisses more
than window
and wysteria –
gates of broken down
fit together passions
for a floor

patched a piece
of weathering –
leaned against the sky
climbed me up
the ladder of your lust –
wondered then
of what would hold
and where the rain
would pool

we’d build a
kitchen there
in shades of blue

jelly jars
of autumn light –
crowns we might have worn
asleep with
purple marbles
in our hands –
trusted for another time
to find the future come

parting now the stars
we knew
by name

. . .

fadingthe butterflies
are drifting –
as are stolen winter wings
were fated by a snowflake
left to die

northern
their progression
higher mountains
richer wines
tho journeyed now
to blossoms not quite bloomed

will doom the flame
from flaring –
the moth to circling
round about
in seasons
without home

who shall say
of these to loss
we might have saved them when
before we gave of lives
we didn’t know

gathered
as a blue bouquet
in treetops of the clouds
swimming out
beyond the evening fog

folded
 to a hurried prayer
spoke before the sun
left to grieve
our souls –
another dawn

slow me
 butterflies
who lived to love
the trees of mexicali –
are floating now
the appalachian trail

stronger winds
are blowing
northern candles west –
as southern nights
 are pushed against
the dawn

rivers rush
beyond their fame
black the velvet feathers
are found beyond
the memories of stone

twilight winks
 above the tides
where once a culture crumbled
sands are set
again
by ancient hands

…

places undecided ~

how is it
that you know me –
another shade of you
a softer voicerumors
and they won’t sound
the same
choices of surrender
let me share
with you my ways
touch me as I know you will
was never not
always

becoming
this remembrance
of a time before our time
locks were pushed away
and curtains fell
rusted beds
and stories told
of places
undecided
as fit to one –
another was begun

woods and wind –
as verse repeating
carved our tears
to stone –
a memory of leaving
long ago
crushed beneath the centipede
waiting us the sun
immortal now
is teaching us
to know

ALMOST
February slivers
of seasons yet to warm.
Yellow clumps
of almost
buttercups –
naked damp foretelling
a pattern
of goodbyes.
Starlings burst
from towers –
stretched between.
Darkness sings
of January –
wrapped in frigid light.

wonder rests
in sheets
of softest denim

would steal away
the sorrows
from the night

guards the road
we failed to take –
some other magic morning

streamed
beyond the reaches
of our plight

backwards
and still –
I come every time
forgetting againremains
what was never my lot –
a river of feathers
float on the air
crushed by the branches
in rush
to the sea

of white
honeysuckle
the hardest
of pearls –
hands thick as bark
beaded briar
whispers long buried
as story with stone
lacey white nest
of the earth

wing’ed the velvet
of once magic swords
pass as a thought into day –
stallions embarked
on paths cross the deep
nature foretelling
the depth of

our sins

ripples are tracing
paths –
thru the black
lost are the seasons
unspoken
 by name

babies are crying
somewhere past the dark –
stars feel their way
to the sun
