somewhere I do

honeysuckle ribbons
are wrapped
as time with string
and squeezed against a plank
of aching red
dusted hallelujahs
are buried by the post
and rusted
to the latch
just like they said

we’d never make the papers
never knew our time
would end –
struggled with the map
unspoken shame –
as day old letters
fade into the memory of a box
– and photographs
don’t hold me
quite the same

a kiss
the taste as summer
a touch the same as true
gentle eyes
were watching me –
as I was watching you
like who would know
the stories
weren’t for telling
where we’d be –
or where we started over
might be here –
you came for me

as roads to trace
from east to west –
were moved as north I took
a ticket in my pocket
found me there
let me know
if e’er the stars
are moved from where
I loved –
as honeysuckle moments
are pulling
at my hair

. . .

how is it
that you know me –
another shade of you
a softer voicerumors
and they won’t sound
the same
choices of surrender
let me share
with you my ways
touch me as I know you will
was never not
always

becoming
this remembrance
of a time before our time
locks were pushed away
and curtains fell
rusted beds
and stories told
of places
undecided
as fit to one –
another was begun

woods and wind –
as verse repeating
carved our tears
to stone –
a memory of leaving
long ago
crushed beneath the centipede
waiting us the sun
immortal now
is teaching us
to know

. . .

never far ~

of meadows

made longing
the ways (never far)
through the winds
o’er the seas –
to wherever
you are

one moment
a lifetime –
maybe three
(I don’t care)
were the journey
forever –
in finding
you there

in the song
of a cricket –
the nightbird’s reply
has given me faith –
in your sweet
lullaby

e’er the soul
be reminded –
of another I knew
a truth not forsaken
in my waiting
for you

. . .

day into night into day

all we have ~

heaven here

of moments
these are all we have
o how they’ve rushed away
people
places
graces
gone before
how sweet their echo
tumbles –
laughter on the lines
times I woke
to find your story
mine

. . .

carry me ~

one I waswarm my cup
within your thirst
my calm against your storm
write my name
in places
none can see

set my spirit
fields afire
rise to fall again
pour your every sunrise
to my leaves

mercy spools in sweet caress
no need this time
for words
of where we were
forever still
our silent hymns
are heard

carry me
ten thousand miles
and I shall do the same
shall be your home
when home
is past –
an ember of
your flame

. . .

again ~

sometime somewhere

was one
or ten thousand
as times to recall
where we were
when we started (again)
presence blended
into one by the light –
and passed as thought
to the wind

was a day
or lifetimes
blossomed from tears
the blue
so amazing –
in waters below
we talked without talking
holding and yet
separate for changing
the story (again)

was it left
in our place
as we sat in the shade
that day (one day)
of another
leaves were falling
hands without need
but to trace
where the grain
gave way into word

rainbows
were reaching
your colors to steal
as laughter
fell sweet to my skin

as wonder
I waited
for one more (again)
to hang on
with every goodbye
how many forevers
the turning would come
finding our way
just the same
as before

mapped to our soul
was the ending (again)

of others I’m sure
I’ve forgotten (not one)
as they stir
in the place left of dreams
dear as was ever
another just now
traces of thought
give way
to a smile

(can it be)
love becoming
without need for a time
yet so many
now passed (on the way)
are come
as was fated –
into places I am
as a mark on my heart
of beginning (again)

. . .

harvest still ~

harvest

the seasons
unrelenting –
as chasing one another
winter blew
as ashes on July
last we spoke –
November
was a time I’ve come
to love –
holding still
the magic of our spring

waiting there
within the chill
of autumn to the harvest –
more than e’er
we knew to understand
bitter wheat
was turned again
to seed the fields of summer –
dreams we dreamed
awake us different
now

across
and thru
these sleepless nights
blankets drag
the ground –
revealed another truth
for why we came
wanting but for nothing
would see the past
undone –

the snow would melt
to flowers all
around

. . .

together now ~

into

as dark
the ways to wander
and worried there alone
of where the gods were leading
(let them lead)
casting deep
our tattered nets
into this sweet divide
made between this world
and those beyond

fragile
as the ancient loop
barely seen at all –
tho stretched to hold
of all together now
as one to understanding
let now the strings be loosed –
as each was sworn
another time
to be

. . .

mender ~

nest

tangled
I’ve been tortured
by the want to tend it all
to leave my lowly mark
upon the world
soothe the heart
and stop the baby crying
for a while

to save the well –
and let the curtains
fall

trusted
with the harvest
buried with the seed
and watered
me the blessings
of the soil
waited
wailed
and wondered
was the first to know
their names
marigold
and venus –
righteous silver
queen

make my bed
of needles –
quartz and lazy pine –
move the night to make
the stars align
stitch my coat with passions
weaved along the way –
when wished I more
than e’er the world
could pay

unsettled ~

remember

of dying
I have but a faint
recollection
gathered in pieces
of living before
sometimes a flood
of almost not memories
of people and places
I’ve known
yet I don’t

exactly the moment
but there in my keeping
a moment unsettled
was yet to be dreamed
how is it I’ve passed
into newness
becoming
and kept of the leaving
some worries undone

a flaw in the story
was stumbled in finding
mornings of lifetimes
within the same sun
nights
as the moon
lay on my shoulder
stars – an illusion
I named every one

slowly but surely
threads to unravel –
knotted so many
the charms working free

from all
that we wondered
unchanged by the dying
are faraway traces
still living in me
